An Awakening

A few words that rolled around and fell out.

An Awakening
by Lyn Marinello    3/14/2026

As the frosty frigid talons
Of winter lose their grip
The daggered ice stalactites
Begin their vernal drip
It is light a little earlier
And dusk remains at bay
The biting wind still whips
As sky blues battle gray
Daffodils and crocuses
Are first to push the dirt with care
And fledgling hawks are squealing
As they test new wings on air
Tiny buds on willows
Azaleas burst in vast array
Dogwoods, not to be outdone,
Flourish in a grand display
Baby birds are chirping
Raindrops bring new growth
Temps begin ascending
Mother Nature keeps her oath
What is dormant in the cold
Is merely resting for rebirth
A newness and a freshness
An awakening of the earth
