There are roots so deep and firmly planted
Instilling traits that can’t be recanted

Feed into the chaos, drape yourself in the now
But the base will come calling. It will find you somehow

To welcome you home from travels afar
We each have a room in that House on the hill
No matter how far you roam, it waits for you still.

Women's Equality Day

I have always found this to be an interesting topic.
I might make some folks angry,
but I believe we've each got our roles.

I do not need a man to take care of me,

but I sure enjoy the fact that mine chooses to.

I can feed myself, earn my own money,

house myself and take care of myself.

I'm not sure that makes me equal to anyone.

I can produce offspring.

That makes me far superior to the simple donors,

but I really couldn't do it without them.

I can own and run a company,

but raising the next generation is, IMHO,

a far more important task to accomplish.

We can do seventeen things at the same time,

and still carry on a complete conversation.

We can organize, celebrate, cheer, 

commiserate, guide, lead and listen - 

all while making dinner.

Why would you want to be equal,

when you've always been so much more?

Kiss and Make Up

Today is National Kiss and Make Up Day.
Is there a lingering wound in your life?

Are you angry with someone?

Feel hurt or betrayed?

Or like you've hurt or betrayed someone else?

Perhaps we can forego the kissing part,

but the making up might be a grand idea.

There need not be any expectations

of major apologies - given or received -

but the tiniest of cracks 

in the doorway of communication

can be a wonderful thing.

Unburdening yourself

from the weight of scars

and the entanglement of lies

is a freeing gift

for you and the recipient.

This is my life mantra.

Across the road ...

Caught a little snippet of a Tina Turner piece.
I was unaware of the facts, but absolutely love her story.

For those that do not know ... here's a quick version ...

On July 1, 1976, Tina Turner waited until her husband, Ike Turner,

fell asleep in a hotel room in Dallas.

Her face was swollen. Her body carried the marks of another assault.

But she had made a decision.

In her pocket: 36 cents and a Mobil gas card.

No money. No plan. No safety net.

Tina slipped silently out of the Statler Hilton.

Then she ran.

Across Interstate 30. Through darkness. 

This wasn’t escape.

It was survival.

Across the highway stood a Ramada Inn.

The manager recognized her, gave her a room, and placed security outside.

For three days, Tina hid there.

Her body began healing.

Her life had already changed.

Weeks later, she filed for divorce after sixteen years of marriage.

She wanted no house.

No money.

No publishing rights.

She wanted one thing.

The name.

Tina Turner.

She left more than music.

She left proof.

Sometimes a new life begins with nothing more than 36 cents,

a gas card, and the courage to cross the road.

She didn’t wait for someone to save her.

She crossed the road and saved herself.

She represents everything she lived through.

Welling tears as the heartstrings tug

The pride in sweet unfurling growth

The depth of a long-honored oath

The joy within a video chat

A wagging tail, a purring cat

A gift, a note, a tiny charm

A stable walk linked arm in arm

The obvious love of a long-held torch

An unfettered laugh, all big and bold

A fireside snuggle when the weather’s cold
