First things first

As 2018 draws near,
before we ask for what we want,
let us first be thankful
for what we have.

Resolutions

With a new year fast approaching,
many of us will make resolutions.

How about disposing of . . .

selfishness
greed
cold-heartedness
ignorance
antagonism
despondency
hate
gloom

How about offering . . .

Kindness
Generosity
Compassion
Understanding
Assistance
Hope
Love
Joy

Peeps

Oh what joy!
What a marvel and a blessing!

Those fabulous people
who come into your life
and touch it in a way that
only they could.
The childhood friends.
The faux family -
that is often MORE than family could ever hope to be.
The coaches who not only coached your sport,
but mentored you in life.
The acquaintances that became 'uncles'.
The supportive friends you can't imagine life without.
The neighbors that were far more than neighborly.
The pals you know - no matter the lapse in time -
were always right there for you.
We are given these gifts
in such a seemingly random way.
And yet . . . when you step back and look . . .
these Precious Peeps we've been presented with
are given when we need them most,
offered when we are searching earnestly,
cross our paths when the path seems impassible.

Lovin' My Peeps!

An Idea

There is not a person alive
that doesn't appreciate a
"Good job!" or "Well done!"
It's not that you need approval.
It's not that you need affirmation.
It's not that you need recognition.
Every now and again,
it's just absolutely fabulous
to have someone be nice to you.

The phrase could be 'nice sweater',
or 'great smile',
or 'what an infectious laugh'.

A little unexpected bliss bomb
is a beautiful thing.

Today . . . here's an idea . . .
throw one out there.
Mean what you say.
And watch the magic unfold.

My Gifts

Over the years, I have received many great gifts,
but . . . the absolute best ones would be the people in my life.

The ones who said I couldn't.
They made me more determined.
The ones who said I wouldn't.
They made me more persistent.
The ones who betrayed me.
They taught me about trust.
The ones who are whiners.
They taught me about diligence.
The ones who are two-faced liars.
They taught me about honesty.
The ones who are braggarts.
They taught me about humility.

The ones who stood by me.
They taught me about unity.
The ones who listened to me.
They taught me about understanding.
The ones who supported me.
They taught me about strength.
The ones who pushed me.
They taught me about vision.
The ones who guided me.
They taught me about tenacity.
The ones who loved me.
They taught me more than I could ever know.

You see, they've all been gifts.
Some were returned.
Some were exchanged.
Some have been cherished for eons.

Enjoy what's not under the tree.

Merry Merry

The game of life
is much different than say, Monopoly.

It is definitely NOT about
grabbing up all the tangibles.
It is definitely NOT about
having the newest, latest and greatest gadgets and gizmos.
It is definitely NOT about
the size and/or shape of one's bank account.
It is definitely NOT about
what make and model of vehicle you own.

It is about living.
It is about sharing.
It is about listening.
It is about exploring.
It is about learning.
It is about giving.
It is about people.
It is about honesty.
It is about caring.
It is about faith.
It is about honor.
It is about thriving.
It is about hope.
It is about love.
It is about one another.

Be merry in your actions.
Be merry in your speaking.
Be merry in your existence.
Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!

Miss You

Christmas time makes it harder,
but I miss you EVERY day.
Your kindness, laughter, wit and charm
will never fade away.
You took a piece of me with you
when you left this earthly plane,
But I carry more of you with me,
it's what truly keeps me sane.
I laugh at what seems to be nonsense,
cry at the drop of a hat,
smile when I know you're present
it could only be you doing that.
Continue to push me forward
on the days I'd like to quit.
I know we'll be reunited.
I may just have to wait a bit.
My love to you as always.
Miss you more than words can say.
Have a Heavenly Merry Christmas
and a blessed every other day.

Peace

Peace is kind of a transitional word.

When we are younger,
we believe peace comes when we find a mate.
As we age,
we believe peace comes with a healthy family.
As children age,
we believe peace comes with quiet.
As children grown,
we believe peace comes with their positive adulthood.
As the years go on,
we believe peace comes with an ache-free day.
As family & friends pass on,
we hope/believe peace greets them on the other side.
And you realize,
peace is not about obtaining things or tangible things.

Peace is love ~
unconditional,
unforgettable,
uncontrollable,
undeterred,
unfettered,
unencumbered,
undefinable,
unrestrained.

I wish you Peace.

23:1

I might want, occasionally,
to be warmer.
I might want to sleep better.
I might want a little bigger nest egg.
I might want to lose a little weight.
I might want my kids closer.
I might want more time with hubby.

But I lack nothing!

Mothers

A special friend
let her mom free herself
from these earthly ties yesterday.
The emotions are always mixed.
We know they are pain-free, worry-free
and in a glorious place.
We also know we are lost without them.
Mothers are magic.
Mothers are mighty.
Mothers are masterful.
Mothers are mystical.
Mothers are marvelous.
Mothers are magnificent.

This mother, however, was all those things
and more.
She mothered all of her own
and then some.
She was my mom away from mom
in my younger days.

To my friend,
I hurt for you.
I ache for you.
I cry with you.
And I also rejoice with you.

You've got an Angel to watch over you.

Love where you dwell

As exhausting as yesterday was,
I have choices regarding it . . .

I can dwell on the fact
that it was God-awful early to start working;
that after hours of work, my superior says it looks a mess;
that it takes forever for help to come;
that there seemed to be gazillions of shoppers;
that I got stuck there helping out . . .

or

I can dwell on the fact
that the early hour allowed me a close encounter with a lovely doe;
that I know how dedicated I am and how hard I work;
that I got visited by two beautiful strangers at work - Angels in disguise;
that none of those gazillion shoppers were cranky;
there were many, many Merry Christmases exchanged;
that I ran into some of those same shoppers later and they were fabulous!

Which "dwell"ing to you want to live in?
Sometimes we all fall victim to visiting in crabbyville,
but it surely is no place to reside.

Soak in the surprises.
Bask in the blessings.
Accept your Angels.
Love where you dwell.

Angels

If you haven't figured it out yet,
I am a fan.

There are many tales of different items
representing Angels or their visits.
Cardinals, feathers, goosebumps;
memorable songs, quotes, words;
the fullness/tightness in your chest
that sneaks up and leaks out of your eyes.

I believe they are here.
Visiting.
Leaving messages.
Enlightening.
Leading.
Loving.

Enjoy your Angels!

Oh Happy Day!

For me,
the happiest of days
is when both my kids
have shared great news,
hubby is home,
dog is walked,
house is warm and cozy.

For some it is quiet time.
For some it is production.
For some it is sweating.
I must say I had a bit of
all of those yesterday
in between the kids,
the dog, hubby,
and my cozy home.

Whatever defines your happy day . . .
I hope you have it
in abundance.

LOVE this

Firstly, know that I did NOT write this.
It came in a Christmas card from a dear friend.
The author is unknown.
I completely adored it, so I am sharing.
Please enjoy.

I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book
and every year at Christmas time, I go and take a look
and that is when I realize that these names are a part
not of the book they're written in, but of my very heart.
For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime
and in that meeting they've become the 'rhythm of the rhyme"
and while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim
I really feel I am composed of each remembered name.
And while you may not be aware of any special link,
just meeting you has shaped my life, more than you can think.
For once you've met somebody, the years cannot erase
the memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face.
So never think my Christmas card is just a mere routine,
of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between.
For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you,
It's because you're on the list of folks that I'm indebted to.
For you're part of the total of the many folks I've met
and you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget.
And whether I have known you, for many years or few,
In some way you have had a part in shaping things I do.
Every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew
the biggest gift that life can give is meeting folks like you!

Tim vs Tor

You always have a choice.
You decide whether you are a
vicTIM or a vicTOR.

You can allow other people
to navigate your path for you,
or you can cut and hack and blaze
your own trail.
You can let people's perceptions
cloud your skies,
or you can bring your own
sunshine and rainbows.
You can surrender
to what other people believe,
or you can determine
your own destiny.

Who will you be?

Tim or Tor

What a Joy!

In my humble and honest opinion,
I believe we are at our best
when we are giving.
Not necessarily money.
Not everyone has extra cash to give.
More importantly,
giving of our time,
giving of our energy,
giving of our talents,
giving of our resources,
giving of our hearts,
giving of our hugs,
giving of our own self.

What a Joy
to do so.

A gift

You can donate money
if you have it.
You can donate time
if you have it.
You can donate resources
if you have them.
But . . .
the easiest and most precious thing
that you can gift
to another human being is
your smile,
your ear,
your hug,
your heart.
your hand.

Now THAT
is a gift!

Every Day

Oh, the joyful blessings
that fill our lives.
The random sights
that we are blessed to see.
The beautiful folks
who are planted in our paths.
The joyous gifts
that are given to us as family/framily.
There is so much we overlook
while seeking the tangibles.
Realize the wealth of grandeur
that surrounds you
every
day!

Nothing

What does it cost to smile at someone?
Nothing.
What does it cost to offer a hug?
Nothing.
What does it cost to simply listen?
Nothing.
What does it cost to be a leaning post?
Nothing.
What does it cost to comfort another?
Nothing.
What does it cost to love and care?
Nothing.

The best gift you can ever offer
is just a little bit of your own little self.
You have much to contribute.
You have value to add.
You are a gift.
Give.

It costs you Nothing.
But to the recipient . . .
you've given Everything!

Let It Flow, Let It Flow, Let It Flow

There is comfort;
safety;
peace;
calm;
serenity;
joy
in the warmth
of God's love.

Let it cleanse you.
Let it strengthen you.
Let it invigorate you.
Let it wash over you.

Let It Flow
Let It Flow
Let It Flow

Get It Together

Happened upon a post
from an extraordinary friend
that went something like this . . .

We pray for cake.
We are given
flour, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla,
and even icing
and complain or leave the kitchen.
We wanted cake!

We must learn to realize
that we are given a majority
of the ingredients we need
to get what we want.
We simply need to apply ourselves,
roll up our sleeves,
and be willing to get it together
to have what we're searching for.

Hoping your baking for the day
brings you everything you want.

Presentces

Nope!
Not a typo.
Tis the season of gift-giving.
We try to make kids happy,
lighten hearts,
and brighten days.
Sometimes, though,
it is not in the commercial effort
that happiness is found.
It is in
the coffee-clad conversation;
the sincere smile;
the hold-it-together hug;
the simplicity of silently sitting together;
the joyous jubilation of jerking around;
the fabulous frivolity of friendship.
Your existence
is a beautiful gift to so many.
Enjoy who you are.
Share what you can.
It is a glory and a grace to give
of ourselves!

Merry and Bright

It's a new day.
It's a new month.
It's a new opportunity.
Rise and shine, buttercup.
Dust off your merry.
Buff up your bright.
Face your Friday
with a joyful noise.

Make it amazing!

Love Yourself

It is a hard thing to do.
To realize your value
without overdoing it.
To accept yourself,
in all your flawed grandeur,
without boasting.
To know your worth,
without blinding others
with your natural bling.
You must be comfortable
within your own beautiful skin,
whatever tone it may be,
before adding anyone else to the mix.
You are unique.
You are a joy.
You are a blessing.
Love yourself!
Love you.

Warm Fuzzies

Last night, my husband decided to flip between
two distinctly different tv presentations:

Rudolph and Ferris Beuller's Day Off

Now this might seem like a random occurrence,
had a customer yesterday not been singing the song

Arizona.

Now you're convinced I'm crazy.
How could those things possibly be connected?

My brother, Skip, now an Angel watching over me,
bought my kids Rudolph when they were little.
He also took me to see Ferris Beuller's Day Off
when it was in theaters because he found it so amusing.
It was. We laughed ~  a lot!
And, back in the day, we had our own special
gaggle of quotes that started with Monte Python and ended with
Arizona.

Sometimes, the Angels sneak into your day in subtle ways.
I miss my brother dearly.
So glad he's still around to give me warm fuzzies.

Hib!

Giving

Today is the National Day of Giving!
EVERY day
should be a day of giving.
But, in honor of the title,
choose an organization,
a committee,
a group,
a club,
and give.
Give local.
Give nationally.
Give to what you're passionate about.
Give to what you want to see succeed.
There is no better group,
no certain timing,
no right amount.
Each of us is dedicated to our own victories.
Educate others.
Bring awareness.
Cure things.
Help things.
Fix things.
Good luck to you
and give, give, give.

Yes

The power of 'Yes' is mighty.
Such a tiny word
yet it wields all sorts of power.
Focusing on the 'yes' diminishes the 'no'.
Concentrating on the positive, depletes the negative.
Expounding on the good, minimizes the bad.
Choose the positive.
Choose the good.
Choose the yes!

A simple task that allows so very much.

Yes yourself silly!

Saturday, November 25, 2017

Whoa is Me

In my humble and honest opinion,
and partly why I write here,
I am convinced that we have very little control
beyond our own selves.

For those that are constantly attending pity parties;
for those that are all about the 'me';
for those that are trying to steal the shoes of Debbie Downer;
for those that think every deck is stacked against them . . .
your 'Woe is Me' attitude is really
a 'Whoa is Me' sentence.
You stand in your own way.
You create your own drama.
You deny access to supporters.
You give weight to what others think.

Get comfortable in your own skin.
Love that mirror and what you see in it.
Embrace the talents and gifts that you have.
You need not look any further than
the tips of your fingers and the end of your nose
to find an extraordinary person
who needs no applause;
who needs no grandeur;
who needs no back-patting;
who simply needs to love him/her self.

You're Welcome

A bit of information we all need to read:

No one is YOU.
THAT is your super power!

and

YOU are the one
you are waiting for.

Give yourself a little credit
and realize your worth.
I am thankful for you.
You are welcome!

Thursday, November 23, 2017

Give Thanks

There is ALWAYS something
to be thankful for.
Life gives you lessons
or blessings.
Both are necessary to
guide and sustain you;
to build you;
to fortify you;
to support you;
to strengthen you;
to love you.
Give Thanks
for it all!

I am thankful for
YOU!

Enjoy your day ~ really!

Wednesday, November 22, 2017

Grateful

I am ever grateful!
Foremost for the Father.
A close second by my Momma.
And then, a warm and fuzzy appreciation to those that:
angered me;
told me no;
dared me;
said I couldn't;
said I wouldn't;
belittled me;
demeaned me;
ignored me;
scared me;
scarred me;
dismissed me;
and overlooked me.
You made me:
wiser;
stronger;
bolder;
braver;
determined;
persistent;
tenacious;
gritty;
faithful;
ambitious;
focused;
and resolute.
Thank You!
You choose . . . victim or victor!
Be grateful for what you face.

Be The One

One candle's flame
can light a multitude of other candles.
One good deed
can incite a plethora of others.
One kind smile
can create a generous outpouring of more.
One selfless gesture
can inspire the world to be better.

Be The One

Monday, November 20, 2017

Amen!

By an unknown author:

At the end of life what really matters,
is not what we bought,
but what we built;
not what we got,
but what we shared;
not our competence,
but our character;
and not our success,
but our significance.
Live a life that matters.
Live a life of love.

ALWAYS

There is ALWAYS something
to be thankful for.
I am convinced that it has nothing to do
with your situation,
and much, much more to do with your heart.
You might have money issues,
but you wake up each morning.
You might have health issues.
but you wake up each morning.
You might be fighting battles,
but you wake up each morning.
Each new day is another opportunity.
Each new day is another blessing.
Each new day is another chance.
Be thankful for the day.
Be thankful for the good that may come.
Be thankful for the wonders that you see.
Be thankful for your senses.
Be thankful for your friends and family.
Be thankful for the air you breathe.
There is ALWAYS something
to be thankful for.
ALWAYS.

Success

To have touched another heart;
to have made a difference;
to leave a positive impact;
THAT is success.

Thursday, November 16, 2017

Wooooooosah!

Negativity is an ugly cloak
made heavier by self pity and doubt.
Positivity feels like a bath of warm sunshine;
the rustle of wind on a wooded walk;
the freedom of butterfly wings.
Grasp what makes you happy.
Life might present chasms ~
practice your leaping.
Life might present mountains ~
practice your hiking.
Life might present chaos ~
practice your wooooooosah!

You can do this.

Thankful!

So, I came across this quote
while visiting with my daughter this weekend.
It struck me as incredibly simple
and yet terribly important.
What you do DOES make a difference.
What you do IS important.
It is not always instant gratification that comes,
but faith in knowing the ripple has been started.

Someone is sitting in the shade today
because someone planted a tree a long time ago.

We may not know or realize who or what we impact,
but your presence is important and vital and beautiful
and I am thankful for it.

Saturday, November 11, 2017

I Thank You!

A great big Thank You
to those that have served our country
to protect our freedoms.
Your sacrifices are immeasurable.
Your efforts are inspiring.
Your strength is encouraging.
Your determination is extraordinary.
To give your time, your years, your life
so that others may enjoy their independence
is an endeavor that should be met with
reverence and respect.
I salute you.
I admire you.
I respect you.
I Thank You!

Drama

Drama should really be left
on the stage or in front of the camera.
Life is too short for nonsense.
If you feel like you failed, do better.
Apologize, begin again, change something.
If you feel like your life's in shambles, fix it.
Find employment, a purpose, a plan.
If you feel like you're unimportant,
remember that you, your own self, are a miracle.
If you feel jealous of someone else,
realize that with a little elbow grease and determination
you can attain some pretty lofty goals on your own.
You can whine and cry and ask for pity,
or you can rise and shine and demand improvement.
Much like that little boy who cried wolf,
folks will quickly tire of your antics and woe-is-me attitude.

Take a look in the mirror.
See what I see.
Beauty. Intelligence. Bravery. Strength. Tenacity. Grit.
Possibility!

Thursday, November 9, 2017

Rise

Before you grumble,
before you complain,
before you whine,
before you cry,
before you stomp your feet,
before you huff . . .
think!

How bad is this?
Can I fix it?
Will it last?
Will it define me?
Can I endure it?
Does it really, really matter?

Rise.
Above the situation.
Above the nonsense.
Above the reaction.
Above the ordeal.
Above the limitations.
Above the hate.

This too shall pass.
You will survive.
You, my friend, are amazing!

Be True

This world is a tad bit whacky sometimes.
Everything is immediate.
Everything seems automatic.
Everything seems disingenuous.
We are trying to please every body,
appease every body,
soothe every body,
smooth every body,
fight every body,
make it right for every body.
Life holds challenges.
Life holds defeat.
Life holds sorrow.
It is at these low points
when you must Be True to you.
Life holds acceptance.
Life holds victory.
Life holds joy.
It is at these high points
when you must Be True to you.
And in all the peaks and valleys in between,
is when you must Be True to you.
You are your unique self for a reason.
We don't need an imitation or duplication of someone else.
You are here because you're YOU!
Be True to YOU!
The world is waiting and in desperate need
of YOU!
Be True to all the wonders that you are!

And the Angels Smiled

I have a little Florida friend
that I have known for probably nearly 20 years.
We didn't pal around,
but we were always pals.
She's a great mom, a great friend,
and an extraordinary person.
She is selfless and giving.

Yesterday I got my mail.
Grocery flyer, bill and an envelope addressed to me.
Threw out the flyer, wanted to throw out the bill,
and wondered what this letter could be from this friend.
I stood at the counter, after a sweatfest at the gym,
grocery shopping, popping in to work for my schedule,
walking the dog, and putting up the food.
I slid my fingers across the envelope, opened the flap,
and pulled out a card with a photo of a lighthouse.
When I opened the card, my heart was happy.
"Hey Lyn" and a whole bunch of smiley face stickers.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Just a happy note; a simple communication,
a little effort to make someone's day better . . .
and it did!

Thank you Ch-Angel Donna.
You make a difference! You are precious and wonderful.
I appreciate your time, your support and your smiley's!

Imagine if every mailbox had one of those in it . . .

You've Got This

Each morning,
I start my day with a tall glass of water
while wading through emails and Facebook
and then coming here
to try to be encouraging and uplifting.
Sometimes, I am inspired by happy things I read.
Sometimes, I am inspired by amazing folks I know or met.
Sometimes, I am inspired by negativity.
Yup ~ you heard me right!

Negativity can defeat you or embolden you.
When someone behaves poorly,
I think to myself . . . there's a good way NOT to act.
When someone dwells on their troubles,
I think to myself . . . how blessed am I for what I have?!
When someone thinks their life is torturous,
I think to myself . . . my life is really grand!

I may not be a phoenix, but I have risen from the ashes.
I have picked myself up more times than I can count.
I've dusted myself off and started over.
I have struggled and I have also overcome.
You can either whine and wallow,
or strengthen and survive.
The choice is yours.

Freedom and your future are in your own hands.
Plan, pursue, participate, prosper and be positive.
Nothing good ever came from sitting in your own filth.
Change is up to you!

I am betting

It is when we reach our limit
that we find our strength;
our resilience;
our stamina;
our fortitude;
our blessings;
our gifts;
our strengths;
our true self.

I am betting
that your are quite extraordinary!

Knock Knock

I saw this post and
whammo
like a sack o' hammers!
This is something far too many folks
have an issue with.
We have a plan for ourselves
and life doesn't always cooperate.
Doesn't mean you're not getting where you're going.

If it doesn't open;
it's not your door.

Doesn't mean the opportunity is lost.
That's just not the way you're supposed to get there.

Be the Inspiration

November is a month which, of course,
celebrates gratitude and the giving of thanks.
It is also National Inspirational Role Models Month.

It is a choice each day to be positive.
It is a choice each day to be supportive.
It is a choice each day to be selfless.
It is a choice each day to be helpful.
It is a choice each day to be kind.
It is a choice each day to be faithful and faith filled.
These, in my opinion, are traits of an
Inspirational Role Model.

It isn't difficult.
Sometimes challenging, but not difficult.

We can all be inspiring to others.
No need for fancy clothes or cars or talents.
It takes a listening ear, a kind heart, strong shoulders,
prayerful knees, and open arms.

You've got all the right parts.
What are you going to do with them.

Be the Inspiration you are intended to be.

Don't Sweat It

There is a phrase that comes to mind this morning,
instead of a day off - I got a phone call at 7 am
to come work for a good portion of the day.
Never mind that I couldn't sleep, so at 1:30 AM
I got out of bed and got a glass of water and took a PM.
So . . . a 7 am wake-up call was a little hurtful.

Someone called out of work.
They need help.
I live about 6 minutes away from the store.
Could I grumble about having to drag myself
out of my cozy bed and shower and go to work.
Of course I could.
Does anyone want to hear it?
NO!

I'm doing the boss man a favor.
They need help.
I am close AND able.
So . . . Hi Ho!

Don't Sweat the Petty Stuff!
And please . . .
Don't Pet the Sweaty Stuff!

This too shall pass.
Breathe and move on.
Have an extraordinary day!

Hey Neighbor

We all want peace.
We want to live in a friendly place.
We want to enjoy what's around us.
We want good neighbors.

Rule #1 to having good neighbors:

BE a good neighbor!

Practice what you preach, folks!

MAD

It's really very rare that I am angry.
So, wishful thinking you'd catch me being 'mad'.
It is, however, a grand national celebration day ~

National Make A Difference Day!!!

Now, is about the only time I'd tell you to get MAD!
Get out there.
Be kind and generous
and supportive and helpful
and nonjudgemental and hopeful
and sincere and philanthropic
and available and loving.
Make A Difference.
Where ever you are.
What ever you do.
Whom ever you're with.
When ever you can.
Without a reason Why!

Just go get MAD!

Under Pressure

There would be no diamonds
without pressure;
there would be no pearls
without battling irritants;
there would be no heroes
without overcoming obstacles;
and there would be no Ch-Angels
without brokenness that needs mending.

You may feel overwhelmed
by whatever is in your way.
You may feel irritated
by those who are self-centered.
You may feel challenged
by the trials before you.
You may feel weary
from much betrayal.

Know that all this pressure
is only polishing you up
for a grand reveal!
You are destined for victory.
You are created to be amazing.
Make use of that pressure.

Shine brightly, my gem!

Unwrap Yourself

You,
yes . . . YOU,
are a gift to this world.

You bring unique and special talents
to others.
You have your own charm;
your own beauty,
your own grace,
your own vibrance,
your own wit,
your own flavor,
your own grandeur,
your own intensity.

Unwrap yourself
and offer all those blessings
to those around you.

High Hopes

Just what makes that little ol' ant,
think he'll move that rubber tree plant?

He's got High Hopes!

Folks seem to either
live up to or down to
the expectations you set for them.

Let's all set some
High Hopes
and see what kind of betterment
we can achieve!

Fabulous Footsteps

We are not always sure
where our paths might take us.
We are not always certain
of peaks, valleys, chasms and vistas.
We are not always confident
of climbing some rocky portions.

What we need to be fixed on
is that you leave behind you,
no matter where you travel,
a landscape that is far improved
than when you arrived.

Leave flowers
and fauna
and trees
and fertile soil.
Leave laughter
and hugs
and happiness
and love.

You may not improve the path you're on,
but for those that follow,
you've allowed an indelible beauty
that will be always cherished.

Searching

When the world seems harsh;
when times may be tough;
when you're feeling blue;
when you cannot seem to find a Ch-Angel . . .

be a Ch-Angel!

In the offering of your self,
you find so much more!

Drifting

There are times
when we feel we are adrift.
Wandering.
Floating aimlessly.
Baffled by choices.
Bewildered by options.
Pained because of betrayal.
Untethered because of loss.

Know this:
There are always ports.
There are always safe havens.
There is always support.

You are NOT alone.
You are NOT lost.

There is hope and acceptance
and guidance and love.
Unfold the map.
Adjust your sails.
Dust off your compass.
It may not be the destination you thought,
but it just might be the best spot for you.

Kindness Matters

In the face of a hard day,
a hug helps.
When irritated by idiots,
an open ear helps.
When frustrated by road blocks,
some support helps.
When feeling dejected,
a real friend helps.
When the blues settle in,
a smile helps.
When helplessness comes,
generosity helps.
When rejection hits,
laughter helps.

Simple gifts are priceless.
Kindness matters.

Vs.

Much like the dash
between your birth date and 'expiration' date
having so much meaning,
there is the versus or vs. in life.

There is defeat vs. victory,
loathing vs. loving,
grieving vs. growing,
broken vs. believing,
trials vs. triumphs,
greed vs. generosity,
chaos vs. kindness,
bitter vs. brave,
envy vs. empathy,
cruelty vs. compassion.

The battle is daily.
The choice is yours.
Which side of the versus
will you stand on?

Tuesday, October 17, 2017

Hi!

My name is Lyn.

How simple is that?
Within a rather lively conversation with a dear soul yesterday,
I came to a conclusion that I've reached countless times before,
but it needs repeating.

Hi! My name is Lyn.

I do not walk up to folks and say,
"Hi!
I am a caucasion, short, Catholic - practicing Christian,
Greek by blood, Italian by marriage, green-eyed, female,
heterosexual, happily married, non-high-fashion,
conservative-leaning, pro-life, pro-gun, mountain-hiking,
beach-loving, sports-crazed, hug-loving, victim of abuse,
voting, pro-art, dreaming, fund raising, passionate about
children and their health/welfare, passionate about standing
up to cancer and defeating illnesses, advocating for those
that cannot speak for themselves, pet loving, freedom loving,
free speaking, hard working, not looking for handouts, hopeful,
helpful, loving, caring, expressive, positive, practical, polite,
respectful, patriotic, independent, kind and generous person."

I just say
"Hi! My name is Lyn."

Let's lose the labels folks!

National Boss's Day

Today is National Boss's Day!
Whomever you work for . . . be nice to them today.
Not because they are fantastic, but because YOU are!

And, while we're on that topic . . .
who is more the boss of you, than YOU?

Be nice to YOU today.
Celebrate YOU!
Celebrate your faults.
Celebrate your weaknesses.
Celebrate your beauty.
Celebrate your strength.
Celebrate your uniqueness.
Celebrate your value.
Celebrate your worth.
Celebrate your SELF!

Happy YOU Day!

Scars

Do not hide your scars.
Do not forget their lessons.
Do not demean their power.
We obtain scars because we live.
We fight. We battle. We challenge ourselves.
Our scars do not diminish us.
They define us.
We become stronger.
We become bolder.
We become braver.
Our scars do not weaken us.
They warrant us.
We learn.
We grow.
We gain.
Bare those scars with pride.
Explain them.
Expose them.
You've earned them.

Dear Me

Try this exercise . . .
Sit down and write yourself a letter.

Just the same as you would build up a buddy;
uplift a weary friend;
support someone in need;
lend advice to a pal who is lacking motivation;
share your heart with one who needs love;
tell yourself all those things!

You deserve to hear how good you are;
how unique you are;
how vital you are;
how tenacious you are;
how loved you are.

We all do.

It is not conceit.
It is not self-righteousness.
We have all fallen short at times.
We have also overcome those times.
We've made mistakes.
We've also learned from them.
You have within you this incredible source
of strength,
of resilience,
of grace,
of dignity,
of brilliance.

Dear me,

Be Still

It doesn't matter what time it is.
It doesn't matter whether it is am or pm.
It doesn't matter where I am.
A little quiet time;
some might call meditation;
I just call it serenity.
I think it is vitally important
to gather your thoughts, your ambition,
your vision, your self.
You can talk to God.
You can find your center.
You can stretch and chill.
You can sweat and dance.
You can walk or just sit.

But . . .

Be still.
Realize your value.
Be still.
Realize your worth.
Be still.
Realize your blessings.

Be still.

S S S S

No, I'm not deflating.

Today is National Stop Bullying Day.
I remember who bullied me on the school bus.
I remember who tormented me in school.
THAT, my friends, was a looooooong time ago.
It leaves a mark. It affects you. It changes you.
Some folks get it way worse than I did.
Social media only makes this problem worse.
Lack of proper ethics and morals doesn't help either.

So S S S S!
If you See Something, Say Something!

Make a difference.
Sometimes just showing up deters the bully.
Be bold and brave and brazen. Stand up when others cannot.
You might be the only chance they've got.

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

Love is . . .

Love is the best thing in the world,
and the thing that lives the longest.

Give it.
Share it.
Bathe in it.
Dress yourself with it.
Lose yourself in it.
Enjoy every second!

You Bet!

That phrase, "You Bet!" was one of Momma's favorite.
I think she would have liked this quote:

"Our deeds determine us,
as much as we determine our deeds."
~ George Eliot

Make it all good!
You're worth it.

Saturday, October 7, 2017

Wow!

Watched a video on Facebook
that had a patch that truly struck a chord with me.
I had to watch several times to get it right.
The whole speech is extraordinary,
but this little line was simply brilliant.

"Ego is the anesthesia
that deadens the pain of stupidity."

Wow!

Be Kind Anyway

There are, sadly, a plethora of ugly people out there.
There are those who bully.
There are those who belittle.
There are those who lie.
There are those who cheat.
There are those who think they are superior.
There are those who deny accountability.
There are those who don't understand hard work.
There are those who don't get ethics.
There are those without morals.
There are those that lack self sufficiency and blame others.
There are those who hate your success.

Be Kind Anyway.

Their actions speak volumes about them.
Do not let your reactions mimic their behavior.

Be Kind Anyway.

You are wiser than that.
You are braver than that.
You are stronger than that.
You are far greater than that.

Be Kind Anway.
Your heart and soul with thank you later.

Choice

Today, you can do whatever you want.
It is, however,
National Do Something Nice Day.

So . . .
what choice will you make?

Make it a good one!

Peace

Peace is something that we all want.
It is a common thread.
A critical bond.

I face ordeals and trials with humor and sarcasm.
Some folks might find that offensive.
Doesn't mean I'm taking things lightly.
If you know me, you know that's the farthest from the truth.
I face defeat and betrayal with a ferocious optimism.
A 'kill them with kindness' and 'make 'em wish they'd chosen differently'
sort of thing.
Some folks might find that offensive.
Just because I don't fight the way you fight,
heal the way you heal,
believe what you believe,
think what you think,
doesn't mean I don't want the same end result.

People . . .
stop with the labels,
the hatred,
the vile spewing ugliness.
Listen.
Read.
Watch.
Educate.
Do no harm.
Do not separate, but unify.
Do not segregate, but envelope.
The peace you seek must begin with you.

The Original & Ultimate Power Couple

What are you looking for in here?
Is it EVER what you expect?

I am referring, today, to
Father Time and Mother Nature.

Father Time.
Constructed of wisdom and tenacity
and endurance and acceptance and pliability
and generosity and kindness and protection
and continuance and evolution.
Loves the Mrs. without question or end.

Mother Nature.
Strong and sturdy and no-nonsense
and brutal and tender and diversified
and giving and protective and cleansing
and vibrant and caring.
And so bad-ass she didn't change her last name.

Enjoy both!
Often.

Strength in Numbers

Every voice has an impact.
But there really is strength in numbers.
United we can do a multitude of things.
Combined we can create great change.
Cohesively we can heal many hurts.
We are all intertwined.
Let us behave as such.

Hanes is a Hero

The clothing industry is brutal.
There is tons of competition.
How many ways can you create a t-shirt?
I mean really.
But, not too long ago,
Hanes came out with a fabulous idea . . .
in the name of comfort . . .
remove the tag!
Get rid of the label.

Perhaps,
just a little something
we all might want to consider.

Good Neighbor

Today is Good Neighbor Day.
Every day is good neighbor day.
Imagine this . . .

You walk out your door
and you're greeted with a chorus of hello's.
You get to work
and each person says hi and asks about your morning/health.
You break for lunch
and have meaningful, peaceful conversation with a coworker.
You finish the day
and your boss thanks you and wishes you a great evening.
You go to the grocery store
where some stranger compliments your shirt.
You finish with your purchase
and are assisted to your car.
You get back home
and a local kid helps you carry in your bags.
You turn on the news
and there's nothing but heartwarming stories on.

Wouldn't that be just delicious?
It could be real.
It begins with you.
Pleasantries, courteousness, politeness,
gratitude, kindness, generosity.

If we each tried just a little harder . . .

How Extraordinary

Isn't it simply extraordinary
that the same God
who created the galaxies,
the heavens,
the earth,
the mountains,
the valleys,
the creatures,
the flowers,
the forests,
the beaches,
and more
decided that we needed
YOU?!

So glad you're here.
So glad you're you.

A Great Word from a Great Woman

So, amidst much nonsense on social media,
there came a tiny voice, from a sweet little woman
whom I have known and respected for years.
No one famous - except maybe in her classroom.
She isn't a supermodel, or actress, or great athlete.
She's just a person; a human being;
a beautiful soul who offered a word
that touched my heart today.

Heal.

This nation.
This world.
People.
Races.
We need to Heal.

Bridge the divides.
Close the gaps.
Stop the hate.
Breathe.
We need to Heal.

Stop being offended by everything.
Stop believing you have the only viewpoint.
Stop thinking everything you read is right.
Do not respond to every statement.
Do not react to every action.
Do not be swayed with what you're shown.
Educate yourself and make your own decisions.
You're entitled to it - BUT you don't have to fight about it.
Heal.
Heal yourself.
Heal those around you.
Heal your community.
Heal your world.
Heal.

Remember

When you believe you're at the edge of a precipice,
remember how many chasms you've already crossed.
When you think you're in front of a brick wall,
remember how many new paths you've already forged.
When you cannot fathom how to solve your problem,
remember how many trials you've already overcome.
When you're certain you cannot take another step,
remember the distance you've already travelled.

You are strong.
You are worthy.
You are resilient.
You are amazing.
You are beautiful.
You are tenacious.
You are deserving.
You are incredible.
You are extraordinary.

Remember!

A Rough Lesson

I am still continuing to re-learn this
but am getting better.
Folks have a hard time understanding
that just because someone does not
think or behave the way they want them to,
doesn't mean they aren't entirely sincere or passionate.

Example:
I adore my husband. He is my world, my rock, my everything.
I would literally run through traffic for him.
Now, he, on the other hand may not do exactly that.
He might not scream his affections from the roof tops.
But that does not mean he doesn't love me with all that he is.
He just does it in his own way.
And that's ok.

We have to stop trying to force people to see our visions.
We cannot expect everyone to behave as we think they should.
As someone posted yesterday . . . 6 + 3 = 9.
So does 5 + 4. So does 7 + 2. So does 8 + 1.
There are many ways to reach a destination.
Just because someone doesn't take your route,
doesn't mean they aren't just as eager to get there.
Allow people to be themselves.
They are beautiful in their own way.
Just as you are.

Life: The Great Cha Cha

Seems like no matter the person,
no matter the timing,
no matter the area,
there is always one step forward
and two steps back.
Sometimes, if you're lucky,
you get to take three or four steps forward.
And then, back you go.
Although those backward jaunts
may take the wind from your sails,
may make you sad or disappointed,
may beat you down a bit,
remember ~ always ~
that the forward step is coming.
One cannot do the cha cha
without this constant rhythm.
Just keep dancing.

'No Regerts'

We've all seen the bad tattoo 'No Regerts'.
It's good for a laugh,
but how many of us can actually say
we live with 'No Regerts'?

I have done some stupid things.
I have made some bad choices.
I have allowed folks to hurt me.
I have believed some negative people.
I have been betrayed and belittled.
BUT
I have not repeated said stupid things.
I have learned from those bad choices.
I have figured out I'm unique and important.
I have pushed out the negative.
I have grown stronger in spite of the torment.

I have 'No Regerts'
because I choose to make less-than-perfect events life lessons.
I have 'No Regerts'
because I believe I add value to this world.
I have 'No Regerts'
because the option to become victorious instead of victimized
is up to me.
I have 'No Regerts'
because I am resilient and tenacious and fierce and brave.

And so are you!

Live with 'No Regerts'.

Do Not Be Afraid

Being comfortable
in your own skin
in your own abilities
in your own talents
in your own world
is vitally important
to a happy existence.

Do Not Be Afraid
to seek that comfort
to find that peace
to reach for those goals
to hope for that world.

Do Not Be Afraid.

Faith is a beautiful place.
Decorate it with who you are.
Enjoy the vista you are given.
Bask in the unique exception that is you!

Do Not Be Afraid.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

In chatting with a dear soul yesterday,
it was a recurring theme amongst us 'black sheep' folk,
that all we really want is a little respect.
It's all anyone really wants.

I may not think what you think.
I may not believe what you believe.
I may not like what you like.
I may not want what you want.
I may not choose what you choose.

It doesn't make me less than you.
It doesn't make me more than you.
It doesn't make me worse than you.
It doesn't make me better than you.

It makes me different.
And that is a beautiful thing.

Sock it to me!

Let Us Strive

When we refer to different types of critters,
we use the terms 'flocks,' 'herds,' 'gaggle,' etc.
When we refer to different types of flora/fauna,
we use the term 'species'.
When we refer to our neighbors and peoples,
we use the term 'humankind'.

Humankind: the human race, humanity.

It is a compound word:  Human + Kind

The more we do to actually emulate that equation,
the better off we'll be.

Why does it take a monumental catastrophe
for the best of us to come out?

It's simple math.

Let us strive to find the answer.

Teacher Ch-Angels

A quote from Malala:

Let us remember:
one book,
one pen,
one child,
and one teacher,
can change the world.

Thank you all SO much
for all that you do;
the sacrifices you make;
the choices you've made;
the time you've given;
to make this world
a little better!

Gratitude

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance,
chaos to order,
confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.

~ M. Beattie

Perseverance

Through the pain;
through the heartache;
through the betrayal;
through the search;
through the storms;
through the setbacks;
through the limits;
through the hurt;
through the angst;
through the tears;
persevere.

You will come out the other side.
You might be changed,
but make it a change for the better.
You might be different,
but make it a positive difference.
You might be in another place,
but make that place beautiful.

Encouragement

Today is a National Day of Encouragement.
I believe pretty much EVERY day should don this moniker,
but I'll take a full day to support others!

I'm encouraging all those who survived Harvey and Irma,
I'm encouraging all those who survived 9/11,
I'm encouraging all those who are sick,
I'm encouraging all those who are looking for work,
I'm encouraging all those who have suffered loss,
I'm encouraging all those who feel defeated,
I'm encouraging all those who are sad,
I'm encouraging all those who defend our freedoms,
I'm encouraging all those who patrol our streets,
I'm encouraging all those first responders,

I thank you for your efforts.
I applaud your resilience.
I feel your pains.
I am here to help however I am able.

Make today a good day.
A positive step sort of day.
A leap of faith if necessary.
You got this!

Storms

There will be storms.
There will also be the passing of storms.
There will be devastation.
There will also be the rebuilding from that devastation.
There will be darkness.
There will also ALWAYS be light.

Prayers

In Florida sits 20+ years of my life.
Memories, friends, family, framily
and my daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law.
I've sat through several many hurricanes.
This one, however, seems far more severe.
I ask for your prayers, your kindness, your support
for all of those in harm's way.
God bless and keep you all.

Kindsight is 20/20

So, in my search for cover pages for Facebook
regarding 'Self Improvement'
I happened upon this one posted today for 'Kindsight'!
What an ingenious play on words.

When we give freely;
when we offer assistance;
when our hearts are open;
when we do not judge;
when we envelope others;
when we realize we are all one;
we develop 'kindsight'
and it truly is 20/20!

Be safe. Be well. Be brave. Be bold.

God Bless

As this world seems to spin
wildly out of control,
my roots of faith grow deeper;
my strength of spirit soars higher;
my breadth of prayer grows wider.

Take help when offered.
Be appreciative and
reciprocate when you're able.
We are one world.
Help your neighbors.
If you are blessed with another morning,
make the day count.

God Bless
and be safe.

Momma

It would appear
that Mother Nature is not a happy camper.

We've got record heatwaves, raging wildfires,
massive flooding, and a big nasty girl aimed at Florida.
Maybe we should stop texting and tweeting,
blaming and bickering, hating and fighting.
Maybe 'Mom' is telling us to go to our rooms
and not come out til we can behave a little better.
Maybe 'Mom' is sending us that delicate message
that we are acting poorly.
Maybe we need to be a little more loving and caring,
helpful and sharing, kind and neighborly.

Cause . . . when Momma ain't happy . . .

Honesty

Honesty is the best policy.

Geesh! That has been said for EVER.
And yet, folks still don't get it.

There are those that bend the truth
to suit their needs.
Those that skew the truth
to meet their goals.
Those that warp the truth
to gain sympathy or attention.
Those that outright fib
to avoid consequences.
The problem is . . . the truth will find a way.

The truth will ALWAYS find a way.

Be honest with others.
Be honest with yourself.
Life will be simpler.

Beauty Tips

Forget all the creams.
Dispose of the lotions.
Ditch the videos.
Toss the juicer . . .

For beautiful eyes,
look for the good in others;
For beautiful lips,
speak only words of kindness;
And for poise,
walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Go Ahead

Amaze yourself.
Try something new.
Learn a new language.
Blaze a new trail.
Read a new book.
Research a new hobby.
Eat something different.
Take a nap.
Laugh at silly stuff.
Be kind for no reason.
Leap into the unknown.
Take a chance.
Forgive someone.
Forget someone.
Get some sun.
Take in a new vista.
Explore.

Go Ahead.

Why not?

Love

There is far too much labelling;
far too much finger-pointing;
far too much judging;
far too much self-righteousness;
far too much selfishness;
far too much anger;
far too much hatred;
far too much division;
far too much yelling;
far too much bitterness;
far too much ugliness.

Let's try a little more inclusion;
a little more humility;
a little more acceptance;
a little more accountability;
a little more generosity;
a little more serenity;
a little more kindness;
a little more unity;
a little more communication;
a little more sweetness;
a little more love.

We

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
when the world must come together as one
there are people dying and it's time to lend a hand
to life, the greatest gift of all.
We can't go on, pretending day by day
that someone, somewhere soon will make a change
we're all part of God's great big family
and the truth, you know, is that love is all you need

We are the world
We are the children
We are the one's to make a brighter day
so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true, we'll make a better day, just you and me

Now, sing THAT song all day long.
What a wonderful thing to have stuck in your head . . .
and heart!

Whoda Thunk?

Whoda thunk
that simply asking for help
might get you some?
Whoda thunk
that being persistent
actually pays off?
Whoda thunk
that unwavering support
is good for other people?
Whoda thunk
that giving unconditionally
actually comes back to you?
Whoda thunk
the believing that you can
really improves your chances?
Whoda thunk
love really is the answer?
Whoda thunk
that being your self
is the best person to be?

The Human Spirit

To watch the ravages of Hurricane Harvey
in Texas is terribly disheartening.
The devastation is enormous and wicked.
What strikes me even more, though,
is the grand illumination of The Human Spirit.

As on 9/11, Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina,
the Boston Marathon Bombing and
so many other despicably awful events,
there is a bonding that arises.
A need and a response for kindness,
for generosity,
for love.
It pays no heed to race, color, gender.
It is a gracious hand lent by a stranger.
It is survivor helping survivor.
There is a resolve to assist someone
who is in need.
There is no reward.
There is no victory dance.
There is no 'yay me' party.
It is simply The Human Spirit
in all its glory.

Today, I am wishing
that the whole of humankind
takes a lesson from these Texans.
The hate, the division, the violence,
can actually be overcome.

The Human Spirit is truly remarkable.

Vital Import

From Mother Teresa:

If we have no peace,
it is because we have forgotten
that we belong to each other.

Comfort

Comfort is one of life's necessities.

One draws comfort from simply being with your soul mate;
from a hold-me-together hug;
from honesty;
from laughter;
from hard work;
from fresh air;
from lapping waves;
from a mountain view;
from a good book;
from a friendly visit;
from your passion;
from love.

Today,
I hope you find comfort
in whatever it is that you are doing.
Mostly, from love.

Laugh

As a family,
we have faced some pretty messed up stuff.
We have cried and ranted and screamed and been angry.
But . . .
through every issue,
every trial,
every betrayal,
every pain,
every ache,
and every tear . . .
there has been laughter.
Sarcasm and wit create the foundation of our home.
We live through movie quotes and tv lines.
Learn to weed through the static
and embrace what really matters - family.
Ours is a house not everyone understands.
You've got to let the coolness get into your vertebrae.

Follow Your Heart

Being wealthy is not all it's cracked up to be.
Being famous is not the end all be all of life.
They say, "If you love your job,
you haven't worked a day in your life."

Follow your heart.
Pursue your dreams.
Chase the passion that consumes you.
Make a difference through your talents.
This is why we are alive.
To offer ourselves to the world around us.

Be A Ch-Angel

Yesterday was my birthday.
It was a grand day
full of laughter and adventure and silliness.
It was also 'be an Angel' day.
How blessed am I? Right?!

So, today,
and literally every day hereafter
I will declare as
Be A Ch-Angel Day!

Make a difference.
Give freely of yourself.
No expectation of reciprocity.
Be kind and generous.
Be respectful and sweet.
Each life is precious.
Every minute counts.
Face each day
with those efforts at hand
and your life
and the lives of millions of others
will be positively impacted.

Go.
Be A Ch-Angel!

The Back Nine

Those that know me know
that this doesn't really have as much to do with golf
as it does with this day!  :-)

The Back Nine

As I approach the tee, the back nine lies ahead...
I ponder what I played before & how I got to where I'm led
I survey the hole before me; the slope, the trees, the traps
Do I play the dogleg or the straightaway perhaps
Scrub up my little golf ball, grab a tee from in my bag
Wondering if their quality is worth the cost of all the swag
I take a couple practice swings before stepping up to drive
Breathing in fresh-cut-grass air. Thrilled to simply be alive
Believe me when I tell you; I've sliced more than my fair share
But practice makes you better. Perfection's nothing I would dare
I've survived on mulligans; taken countless 2-point penalties
Even kicked my ball from in the rough and hoped nobody sees
My goal is always par, although a birdie would be grand
Bogey's must be minimal. Course strategy must be planned
I've lost several integral caddies. Those that guided me thru the game
The journey remains consistent, but playing's not the same
I've learned to really appreciate the stunning beauty of the course
In awe of rolling fairways and respectful of its source
Steering clear of bunkers, trying not to lose my balls
Enjoying each hole's diversity as before me each one sprawls
I may not be on the PGA, but I'll swing away in bliss
Grateful for the back nine and the holes that've led to this
And when I reach that 19th hole, thirsty for what comes beyond
I hope the legacy of love of game is what's left when I am gone
Please respect the course you play on, replace divots, fix the sod
The beauty's not found in a hole in one, but in walking this course with God!

Fear

Anything worth doing in our lives
will always have some fear attached to it.

Fear need not be immobilizing.
Fear need not be debilitating.
Fear need not be a detractor.
Use it.
Make fear your fuel.

Sometimes,
your most extraordinary endeavors
are achieved in the midst of fear.

Have at it.

Share a heartache.
Share a chore.
Share a burden.
Share your soul
Share your work.
Share your success.
Share some tenderness.
Share your weakness.
Share your pain.
Share your triumph.
Share some love.

Pain seems minimized
and elation seems maximized
when we Share them.

Peace

Wouldn't it be outstanding
to live within a peaceful society?
It begins with you.

Peace takes root within your soul.
You radiate that serenity to others.
They soak it up and renew themselves.
They then pass it along its way.
It is a ripple that needs to start somewhere.
Why not with you?

Be a source of strength;
a fountain of faith;
a professor of positivity;
a beacon of beauty;
a king of kindness.
It begins with you.

Good Stuff

When I see kindness;
when I witness generosity;
when I feel compassion;
when I am enveloped in love;
when I am steeled by support;
I am refreshed and renewed.

When I provide kindness;
when I freely give;
when I care unconditionally;
when I open my heart;
when I stand by those in need;
my heart is happy.

What a grand thing it is
to be refreshed and renewed
with a happy heart.

Love

Enjoy the company
of the person next to you.
Enjoy the friendship
of the village you've built around you.
Enjoy the person
that you are.

Love what is available to you.
Assist what needs help before you.
Give what you're able to those in need.

Be happy with you
and you will find much less fault with others.

Escape

Not all who wander are lost.

Today we start a small adventure.
We explore a little further out from where we live.
It is always chock full of the unknown.
We cannot control anything but our destination.

Absorb everything on your journeys.
Take in all of the bounty and the beauty.
The bills will wait.
The worries will remain.
The anxieties may persist.
But, for a few days,
escape.

Find a little peace!

Fauxcade

Why?

Is it really necessary to portray yourself
as something that you are not?
Humble yourself.
Be honest ~ with yourself and others.
We are all broken.
We are all scarred.
We are all cracked.
We are all a tad askew.
We are extremely left of perfect.
There is nothing wrong with that.

Our imperfections make us who we are.
We derive our strength from our failures.
We draw our character from aspiration.
We are not defined by what we lack.
We are motivated by our shortcomings.

Be real.
Be you.
Be.

HIHO

Hope

Hope

Sing it!
You know it's stuck in your head now.
Just a new way to ponder things!

Be Nice

This was one of my Mom's most redundant rules.
To seven children, "Be Nice!"
To nasty people, "Be Nice!"
To haters, "Be Nice!"
She taught us that being kind matters
and that niceness comes in a variety of platforms
and it really is as easy and simple as
"Be Nice!"

She also taught us,
much later on in life,
once that first part was securely tucked into our genetic makeup,
that there is a second half to that statement . . .

"Until it's time to NOT be nice!"

Be kind, always,
but do NOT be a doormat.
Do not EVER undervalue yourself.
Do not allow other folks to belittle you.
Do not accept less than you deserve.
You do not have to be mean or hurtful,
but . . .

"Be Nice . . . until it's time to NOT be nice!"

Have a great day!

Here I Am

This is not just about me.
This is every single one of us!

Here I Am.

I am tall.
I am short.
I am fat.
I am thin.
I am a person.
I am not a color.
I am muscular.
I am wiry.
I am witty.
I am brilliant.
I am a leader.
I am a follower.
I am a scholar.
I am a tradesman.
I am beautiful.
I am special.
I am unique.
I am me.
I am.
Me.

Here I Am.

NHHD

So, it's raining. Pouring actually.
You're a little sad?
You're not feeling 100%?
Things are going well?
You're sleepy?
You're lonely?
You're weepy?

You know what?
It doesn't matter!

Today is:
National Happiness Happens Day!

Find the fabulous tree
and shake that dadgum thing!
Gather the fruit that falls.
Pick the blossoms that open to you.
Pluck those seeds and plant them for yourself.

Happiness is a state of mind.
You must first decide
that you will come across positive
and beautiful gifts.
And you will!

Make your happiness happen!

Shine Your Light

Each of us has within us
a beautiful light;
a beacon for others and for ourselves.
There are plenty of shadows,
negative walls and obstructions
to squelch that brilliance.
Never let that occur.
A single candle
can light an entire room.
Your single flicker
can literally save a life.
Shine your light.
Shine!

Purpose

Each of us has a purpose.
Each of us has a passion to share.
And sometimes,
when the Heavens smile down upon us,
our passion and purpose
are intertwined.
Follow your passion.
Fulfill your purpose.
Here's hoping they are one in the same.

Principles

By Thomas Monson:

The principles of living greatly include the capacity to face:
trouble with courage;
disappointment with cheerfulness;
and trial with humility.

Up To You

Is it a dreary, rainy day?
Or are the flowers being watered?
Is it awfully hot and sweaty?
Or are you being kissed by the sun?
Is it brutally frigid and snowy?
Or is it a winter wonderland?
Is that snicker directed at you?
Or do you enjoy the hearty laughter?
Is the solitude driving you crazy?
Or are you comfortable in your own company?
Are the crowds creating claustrophobia?
Or do you find amusement in people watching?

It is a matter of choice.
YOU decide how you perceive any situation.
Your reaction is entirely
Up To You.

Surrender

When we can learn to surrender
to the truth
to reality
to honesty
to humility
we can grow and blossom and achieve.
Stop the drama.
Stop the self-centric nonsense.
Stop the finger pointing.
Stop the blame game.
We must throw away the notions
of perfection
of judgement
of collecting
of pride.
We must remove the falsehoods
of wealth
of fame
of notariety
of perception.
We need to accept and love;
to care and support;
to nurture and guide;
to give and be glad.

Legacy

August is
"What Will Your Legacy Be?" month.

Legacy is defined as:
A gift of property, especially personal.
Anything handed down from the past.

What you work for now
might be impressive.
What you leave behind you
is much more important.

Ch-Angels

These folks, Ch-Angels,
are everywhere
if you choose to look for them.

They are the ones
that offer smiles
that share kindness
that give assistance
that dole out freely
that love wholly.

They want nothing in return.
They expect nothing for their actions.
They require no provocation.
They act solely on one purpose:

to make another life better.

Wouldn't it be nice
if we were all Ch-Angels?!

Fresh!

Fresh!

A new beginning.
Wipe the slate clean.
A do-over.

Our lives are a multitude
of the option to repeat this process.

Whether it's with new folks,
new surroundings,
new ideas,
new passions,
new purpose,
new guidance,
new faith,
new you . . .
it is never too late
to plan a fresh adventure.

Heed The Words

There are days
when I'd like to try
to smack the stupid out of people.
It is those days
that I have to stop, breathe,
ponder the consequences,
and remember that I don't look good in orange.
Life is too short
to waste your time on things
that really have no impact on your life.
Find pleasure right beside you.
Eliminate the static.
Avoid the piles.

To quote three very wise people:

Point your shoes in another direction.
Next!
Hib.

Come to Your Senses

Taste all of the flavors.
Keep trying things. Preparation is key.
What you didn't like last year, may be your new favorite this year.
See everything you can.
Travel. Read. Watch.
Absorb the colors, the vistas, the creatures, the spaces.
Smell each fragrance.
Fresh cut grass. Approaching rain. Pie. Babies. Puppy breath.
Flowers. The ocean. The woods. Food. Fresh air.
Listen to the music.
The music of nature. The music of the sea. The music of music.
The humming of sunrise. The hush of nightfall. The beauty of laughter.
Touch what you can.
Feel your way. Texture transmits a multitude of information and emotion.
Rough stuff. Smooth stuff. Glossy stuff. Prickly stuff.
And hug . . . whenever possible.

Come to your senses
and experience every little thing out there.

Edumacation

Learning is living.
Learn new things each day.
Try different offerings.
Walk different paths.
Listen to different folks.
Seek much information.
Invest in yourself.
Broaden your horizons.
Read a vast array of topics.
Travel frequently.
Speak to veterans.
Examine your surroundings.
Learning is living.

Wow!

Yes.
I am THAT mom.
The one who is always going on about her kids.

Those of you that know them,
understand that they have
lived beyond their years,
learned beyond their education,
struggled beyond their limitations,
love beyond condition,
excel beyond boundaries.

They form dreams and chase them.
They meet troubles and beat them.
They see issues and combat them.
They are just extraordinary people.

Ch-Angels, if you will!

I. Am. Blessed.

TAM2MAM

There is a sweet little commercial
about a rather large man attending his daughter's tea party.
They sing the tea pot song and settle in for pinkies-up frivolity.
The by-line is:

Take A Moment to Make A Moment.

I don't remember if it's in reference to dads or whatever,
but I do believe it is a lesson for all of us.
Doesn't make a difference if you're a dad, a mom,
daughter, son,
grandparent, aunt, uncle,
niece, nephew,
neighbor, friend,
or even a stranger.

Take A Moment to Make A Moment.

A helping hand.
A simple smile.
An honest compliment.
An open ear.
A big old bear hug.
It doesn't take a whole lot
to make a huge difference.

Happy Heart

There comes a point
when troubles ooze away;
worries fade into shadows;
angst releases its grasp;
and you let the coolness seep into your vertebrae.
You are cloaked in joy;
dressed in delight;
and bathed in faith.
A Happy Heart.
What more could one ask for?

Journey

Ahhh . . . the journey.

Bumps.
Potholes.
Wicked hairpin turns.
Closed roads.
One ways.
Expressways.
Dirt roads.
No roads.

These things do not compare
to the vistas along the way.

Enjoy the ride.

M.A.D.

This month is Make a Difference for Children month.
What better objective could there be?
It doesn't take a fortune to make a difference.
You don't need to spoil them
with every little thing they ask for.
It is much more a matter of love and time.

Spend quality time with them.
Read to them.
Play with them.
Listen to them.
Be with them.
Converse with them.
Share with them.
Show pride in them.
Snuggle with them.
Love them.

Whether they are 3 or 33!

Trust

A tiny little word
with enormous weight.
Easily given.
Eagerly wanted.
Exceptionally difficult to retrieve once lost.

We have few things to truly give in this world.
Our word and the trust behind it
carry a great source of strength and stability.

Monday, July 17, 2017

Love

Is there anything better?
To give it.
To receive it.
To roll around in it.
To cloak yourself in it.
To just smother someone with it.

There is such comfort in it.
Such strength.
Such grandeur.
Such silliness.
Such diversity.
Such simplicity.

Do enjoy your day ~
with much love in it.

+

There is enough negativity in the world.
There are bullies and betrayals.
There are cheaters and liars.
There is evil and condemnation.

You must be the difference.

You must offer support;
loyalty;
faithfulness;
honesty;
goodness;
praise.
Be the positive influence for someone.
For any one.

It starts with you!

Treasures

Be aware of the treasures
in your life.
Acknowledge the gifts
that you are given.
Embrace the blessings
that befall you.
Be thankful.
Be joyous.
Be happy.
Life is precious.
Treasures are found
in heartbeats not gadgets;
in laughter not numbers;
in comfort not titles.

Home

As life's journey
ebbs and flows through time
we might gather a few spots that
we refer to as 'Home'.
As you might visit old structures
where monumental events occurred,
and reminisce about milestones,
there is always only one 'Home;'

where the heart is.

There might be a
melancholoy quiet without my babies,
but beside my husband,
my hand in his,
his smile directed at me,
those dimples,
those arms around me,
his silliness,
his laughter,
his mere presence . . .
I am Home.

Simplicity

Today is National Simplicity Day.

Boy, do I wish I could share this directly with specific folk.
I will just hope it finds its way to those that need it.

Life really isn't meant to be complicated.
Sure, we may run into a snag or two,
but how you handle those hiccups
speaks volumes!

You can publicize your trash,
you can play the victim,
you can whine and cry,
or you can realize
that you helped create that trash,
are never a victim,
whining just makes you look immature.

KISS
Keep It Simple Silly

Be honest.
Be kind.
Be fair.
Hug.
Listen.
Love.

Simple rules.
Grand results.

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Stop. Look. Silence.

Stop.
Stop looking around and comparing.
Look.
Start looking ahead and evolving.
Silence.
Love and live your life. Silence the noise.
~ A. Elle

The noise, I know,
can be very distracting.
It can swiftly take you places
you never intended to go.
Stop.
Look.
Silence.
Grand advice for our hectic world.

Fall in Love

I'm not suggesting
you hunt down folks you find attractive.
More than that . . .

Fall in Love ~
with moments!

Fall in love with laughter.
Fall in love with silence.
Fall in love with idle chatter.
Fall in love with long walks.
Fall in love with a held hand.
Fall in love with a smile.
Fall in love with a picturesque drive.
Fall in love with the ocean lapping.
Fall in love with wooded trails.
Fall in love with nuptials.
Fall in love with babies.
Fall in love with letters.
Fall in love with music.
Fall in love with togetherness.
Fall in love with hard work.
Fall in love with joy.
Fall in love
with moments!

Please and Thank You

I was always taught to say
Please and Thank You.
I was always on top of my kids to say
Please and Thank You.
I'm not Susie Etiquette about time frames,
but expedience is genuinely appreciated.
We do not do things contingent on a Please.
And we do not wait on Thank You.
We do stuff because it is the right thing to do,
and we just hope someone else was taught
proper manners.
It is not always the case.
That is their cross to carry.

Please,
be nice.
Thank You!

Leap

There is no magic number.
There is no mysterious date.
There is no secret plan.

Sometimes . . .
one must just leap
into the abyss of faith
and realize that you will either
land some place new to explore
or simply learn to fly.

Enjoy the journey!

Leap.

Focus

Live the Life
Your Soul Intended.

You have nothing to prove.
You have no one to impress.
You have only one focus:

To be the most extraordinary YOU
that you can be.

There will be pain.
There will be betrayal.
There will be set backs.
There will be gossip.
There will be idiots.
There will also always be
the opportunity
to be a bigger, better person
and be YOU!

Be Brilliant

So each day I get 'a message from God'
in my emails.
It's a very nice way to wake up
and sometimes it really strikes a chord.
Today . . . the whole chorus hummed!

God wants you to know that today you can help
a thousand people see God's light.
Feel the shine within you
and take a step to inspire someone else to shine.

So I will urge you
to realize the brilliance that is just waiting
to beam from within you.
You are an incredible person,
with amazing abilities and talents,
and a genuine worth and purpose.
Go.
Shine.
Be Brilliant!

Independence

Today we celebrate the Independence of these United States.
Nothing worth fighting for ever comes easy.
Celebrate today with respect and admiration
for those that came before you to give you that right.

And I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me
And I'll gladly stand up next to you
and defend Her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the U.S.A.

God bless the U.S.A.

I am here

For those of you that I call friends;
for those that are close family;
for those that are framily . . .
I am here.

I might not be close enough to hug you,
or hold you,
but I will ALWAYS be available
to listen,
to care,
to give,
to share,
to hope,
to pray,
to sit,
to confide,
to be,
to love.

For you . . .
I am here.

Make a Difference

July is Make a Difference to Children Month.
One of my most favorite things EVER!

It doesn't need to be much.
You don't have to pay for their college.
You don't have to buy them a car.
You don't need to gift them a new iPhone.
Sometimes, just your time
is the most precious commodity you can give.
A hug, an ear, a shoulder,
some guidance,
unfettered wisdom,
and love ~
none of which costs a dadgum thing
but can create a total world of difference.

Go
Make a Difference
this month and every month!

Good Advice

Smile while you talk.
Listen with your heart.
Say 'Yes' a lot.
Hug with your whole being.
Exist clothed in love.

Wonder

Whatever your age,
no matter your circumstance,
regardless of your finances,
without thought to social stature,
never
EVER
lose your wonder.

Be in awe of blooming flowers.
Be amazed by the ocean's power.
Be invigorated by the wood's quiet.
Be thrilled by love.
Be buoyed by hope.
Be enveloped by blessings.

Get lost
in all kinds of wonder.

Please and Thank You

What ever happened to Please and Thank You?
Seems like such an easy thing to do.
Seems like such a simple activity.
Yet in this world of instantaneous everything,
we expect perfection,
demand respect,
abhor differences,
and can't seem to 'lower' ourselves
to actually appreciate anything.

Please . . . take a moment today.
Exercise your 'Please'.
Watch what a difference it makes.
The recipient may be terribly shocked
and ultimately stunned.
And when someone is pleasant,
or even if they're not,
make use of a 'Thank You'.

The difference in the world
begins with you!

Thank You.

Grrr!

Just saw a post that 'spoke to me'.
I have learned that when things connect,
I need to share ~
that someone (me included) needs to see/hear/read it.
So . . .

You may see me struggle,
but you will never see me quit!

This is one of those inner strength quips
that truly motivates me.

I have struggled.
Mightily.
But you will NEVER see me quit!
And I hope that I have been an example;
a light;
a lesson;
a witness;
to the power
of faith;
of hope;
of tenacity;
of grit.

Don't ever forget
how very strong and amazing
you are!

Really?

That is my phrase of choice
when I just don't understand someone's actions or speech.
It's like 'Here's your sign,'
but with less condescension.
Great alternative to road rage.
Much nicer than slinging obscenities.
Better than lowering yourself.
Safer than trying to look good in orange.

Breathe before reacting.
Try a 'Really?'

One Vessel

You only get one chance at life.
The vessel that you've been given,
much like the car you drive,
or the boat you use,
or the tools you own,
needs to be maintained.
It requires rest, nurturing, food,
water, laughter and love.
It thrives on positive energy.
It excels under pressure.
It blossoms in good conditions.

Now . . . ponder this . . .

We are each our own vessel.
A craft that needs all those things above.
Now understand that we, as a collective people,
are one vessel, too.
This larger vessel is in no less need of all that
rest,
nurturing,
food,
water,
laughter
and love.

Sail your ship wisely
so you might help others do the same.
We are all One Vessel.

Children are Ch-Angels

When my son was sick and took up reading,
we soon became avid (or rabid) Barnes & Noble-rs.
When my daughter began dabbling in art,
we cheered her on through every medium -
colored pencils, gel pens, paint, canvas.
When Deanna began to pursue photography,
we inquired about lenses and cameras and pushed her to chase that dream.
When Miles grabbed on to movies,
we'd accompany him and although I still watch for pure entertainment,
I have begun to notice many more things about how they shoot things,
scripting, lighting and love to listen to him jabber on.
When both became obsessed with travel,
I had my reservations (lol - see what I did there?),
but eventually learned to let them go.
See the world.
Experience what you can.
Explore. Absorb.
Of course, I always tell them to 'Make Good Choices,"
but it fills my heart with joy to see them spread their wings
(both literally and figuratively)
and do what brings them joy.
They may be a product of my husband and I,
but they are extraordinary human beings all on their own.
They bring so much to the table ~ any table.
They amaze me and astound me and fill me with pride
that they have chosen their own paths,
overcome their own obstacles,
and have become incredible people.
It is hard as a parent not to control or persuade,
but if you can find that uncomfortably thin line and walk it,
the results are simply overwhelming.
Charge on Ch-Angels!

Hmmm

Here is something that I saw yesterday AND this morning.
I hope, no matter your preference,
it truly makes you stop and think and behave a little better.

What if I told you that
the left wing
and the right wing
belong to the same bird.

Therapy

I've long been a proponent of therapy writing.

If you're angry - write a letter.
If you're disgruntled - write a letter.
If you're bitter - write a letter.
If you're hurt - write a letter.
If you're lost - write a letter.
If you're unhappy - write a letter.

No where in there does it say
SEND the letter.

Sometimes, just the exercise of venting,
expelling those feelings,
extricating your emotions
is the best thing for you.

Holding things in is unhealthy.
Spewing hatred helps nothing.
Letting go of the baggage . . .
euphoria!

It feels good . . .

to do good!

When was the last time you did a good deed
without any possible chance of a thank you
or any acknowledgement of your actions?

Today is a great day to do just that.

One single RAK (random act of kindness)
can ripple far beyond your knowledge
and create a beautiful day for someone
you don't even know.

The reward is not in kudos.
The reward is that gooey warm feeling
in the pit of your soul
that says you made a difference!

Go!
Get warm and gooey!

A Good Spin

Anyone who knows me
and reads this blog with any regularity
knows that I'm all about
finding the silver lining in bad times.
In getting back to reading books,
such a blessing to be able to,
I came across this spin on things.
I rather like it.

When life brings hardships beyond our understanding,
it's not up to us to look for the silver lining.
We are the silver lining.
We become God's well-tuned instruments of peace,
His gift to one another,
each of us a miracle,
according to His strange and wonderful plan.

How is THAT for a meaty Monday morning?!

Daddio

Daddio, Pop, Alfred, "Phil", Sal, Victor ~ I've had my choice of picks.

In thinking about things, my grandfather ~ Daddio ~ was my first male role model.
He made impression enough that he gave me away at my wedding instead of Pop or Alfred.
Daddio instilled boxing skills and 'jerkin' around'.

Pop - my biological dad - initially failed as a dad, but more than made up for it
in my later years. He was more of a pal than a dad; and that was fine by me.

Alfred brought me my love of golf and
two of the best step-brothers this world could offer.

"Phil" was the one who finally treated my mother the way she deserved.
God bless him for that.

Sal ~ my father-in-law ~ perfection in a tiny frame. Treated me like family always.
Such a sad shame he left us far too soon.
I would have loved to have spent more time with him.

Victor ~ not my father ~ but no one I'd rather to father my children.
I hope they know how lucky they are; how blessed;
how strong and communicative ~ because of their dad;
how vibrant and tenacious ~ because of their dad;
how bold and beautiful ~ because of their dad;
how playful and silly ~ because of their dad.

My point?
Whether by blood or not, you can choose to take with you
the positives of anyone in your life.
Father's play an integral role.
God bless the father folk in my life.
Enjoy the ones in yours ~ in whatever package they arrive.
