A thought for 2024

Been decommissioned with a nasty sinus infection.
Feeling a little more human today,
so I thought I'd pop on and add to your day.

Work on you,
for you,
all ways,
always.

Seems like a good way to begin and spend 2024.
Heading to funeral in Orlando.
Won't be back to NYE day.

Enjoy what you have around you.
It is all a blessing.

One Another

For so so so so so many people ...
Please let me know whatcha think ...

One Another
by Lyn Marinello

I've written of an empty stocking, waged words of an empty chair;
condolences in rhythmic rhyme to express a deep despair.
I've given in to sadness. Left a space for it to lay.
My prose is often all I have, feelings sympathy cards cannot convey.
I have penned my way through tears, put to paper all the pain,
In hopes that in the midst of my grief, another broken heart may be sustained.
I have written for all the parents, for siblings and for friends, as well,
to bridge a chasm unfillable, to keep life in an empty shell.
Grief if a necessary evil; a gaping wound that must be felt.
Take your time throughout the process to navigate the hand that you are dealt.
Mere words will never capture the breadth and width of life;
Or the constant gnawing ache of a lost child, parent, husband, wife.
But there is a certain warmth; a comfort in memories shared.
A blanket of eternal security. A tapestry of pained hearts bared.
The time in which we're given is a fleeting, precious gift.
A planet full of wayward souls, haphazardly adrift.
Or are connections that we have, a universal GPS?
A link to climbing mountains; to lean on through numbing distress?
In wandering through my loss, I've learned the hurt cannot be smothered.
The greatest tool that we each have is the love and strength from one another.

Merry Christmas

I have the unique opportunity
to kind of just unplug for a few days.
I hope that you also take advantage
of this time to truly cherish your
loved ones and friends.
I am wishing hope and love and light
to those that might be struggling
or need a little boost
(including my own little self).
May the spirit of the season
bring you joy and peace.
Find blessings in the little things
and share kindness when you're able.
You are ALWAYS able.
Merry Christmas, friends.
You are some of my dearest and greatest gifts.

One Line

When a certain country song comes on,
I pull a Seinfeld and hush the room.
I don't even know the title of the song.
I am just completely enamored with one line.

ONE LINE.

And now,
having had old wounds re-opened,
adding fresh new ones,
woes from my babies,
and unexpected gifts that shock and warm my heart ...
read this line

this ONE single line

and let it seep deep deep deep within your bones.

Never leave I love you left unsaid.

Untethered

Those that know what's going on with us, will understand this post.
Perhaps, some that don't may get it too.
My husband made the comment, "I feel empty and lost."
It immediately brought this to mind.
If you're hurting or sad ~ or empty or lost ~
I hope this helps to some small degree.
You are not alone.

Untethered
by Lyn Marinello

There's a special sort of blessing that takes place upon this earth,
Literally tied, in womb, to Mom, at conception through to birth.
Dependent for all food and growth. Gestation creates a home.
A safe and peaceful haven no matter where we may roam.
Next we're bound by apron strings as childhood rushes by,
Always testing elasticity as we spread our wings to fly.
Then into young adulthood. We feel trapped under their thumb.
Like we're never going to get away about to surrender and succumb.
Time passes by, we build our lives, perhaps those calls out of obligation.
Forced to travel for the holidays. Interactions faced with trepidation.
We tend to get annoyed by the volume that you use,
By the layers that you wear or the phrases that you choose.
The calls become infrequent. The visits dwindle in their number.
And reaching out seems so mundane; a weighty task that we encumber.
And then, as life so often does, we take a curveball to the chin.
We're shown that life is very fragile and reality sets in.
The strolls down memory lane seem a much more frequent walk,
And every day a call is made for unimportant, idle talk.
But we have to come to realize that every chat's essential ~
Tidbits that are tossed our way are savored; reverential.
We help you put the layers on. With the volume, we add captions.
We sit patiently to help you out with these newfangled contraptions.
Holidays are cherished; embellished with your every phrase.
Happy to bound our tired wings. Content to share an afternoon laze.
There is not much we wouldn't do to be tied in apron strings once more,
To arrive at your little dated abode and have you waiting at the door.
But time is like the ocean ~ a grand ebb and equal flow.
An Angel brings a brand new life; a tenured soul must go.
A connection once so intimate, so pure and absolute,
Has swayed and frayed and frazzled but now stands faithful; resolute.
They've shared every bit of self, sometimes disheveled and often weathered.
Their steadfast love has paved a guiding path as we now travel on untethered.

Like a Lake

Love this little Lao Tzu quote:

Make your heart
like a lake,
with a calm, still surface
and great depths
of kindness.

And invite deserving folks
to take a dip.

Enjoy your hump day!

Hugs

My cover photo kind of put me
in a hugging mood.

I just hugged you
in my thoughts.
I sure hope
you felt it.

Habit

From one Ralph Marston:

Make it a habit
to tell people, "Thank You!"
To express your appreciation,
sincerely and without the expectation
of anything in return.
Truly appreciate those around you,
and you'll soon find
many others around you.
Truly appreciate life,
and you'll find
that you have more of it.

Make Monday Matter!

A Long and Winding Road

I must apologize.
I've been a bit discombobulated lately.
I'm not normally on here on Sunday at all, but I was absent yesterday.
I was watching over my sweet husband whose Momma earned her wings on Friday night.
At 98, she sure has seen and been through an abundance of experiences.
As strong and sturdy and steadfast a soul as you could meet, she finally let go and let God.
You may know it's coming, but you are never ready.
Hope these words that woke me up yesterday morning do her justice.
You will be missed Inova Marinello.
You've left a legacy of love.

A Long and Winding Road
In Honor of Inova Marinello
by Lyn Marinello

It’s been a long and winding road with many a twist and turn.
You took every step undaunted; each opportunity to learn.
You stood firm within your faith. Family always at your core
Herculean strength ~ perhaps the model for that lore.
You traveled many places; taken paths no one would dare.
Coiffed, bejeweled, dressed to the nines. Met all your troubles with Inova flare.
You met challenges head on. Faced fears and loss and pain.
You’d occasionally crack and shed a tear or say something quite profane.
Steadfast in your beliefs, a heart so loving and so kind.
Always willing to lend an ear and also to speak your mind.
Hand in hand with Sal, you were never more content.
Surrounded by your offspring is the place that you were meant.
Greater joy could not be found than the gleam within your eyes
when spending time with family and its ever-growing size.
You created countless memories with the many souls you reached.
Improved the lives of every one with the fortitude you have preached.
It’s been a long and winding road. Beyond the trials, you’ve been blessed.
Enjoy Christmas at the throne of God, put your feet up, Mom, and finally rest.

Hey Alice!

The secret, Alice,
is to surround yourself
with people
who make your heart smile.
It's then,
only then,
that you'll find Wonderland.

Tapestry of Truth

I do not always know
where these things come from,
but I have learned to listen, write and share.
Hope it finds where it needs to go.
And, as always, please let me know whatcha think ...

Tapestry of Truth
by Lyn Marinello

Have you ever stopped, perhaps,
for a moment just to think,
of the hate within your words
or the poison in your ink?
You're not present in the moment,
you sit lofty on your perch,
choosing points you want to lean on,
then arrogantly besmirch.
You think your money gives you leverage
to speak of things you're unaware,
insist that everyone should follow
the delusions that you share.
You demand that wrongs be righted,
that we should all be wrought with guilt.
Your vista is the only one
in the tiny, narrow world you've built.
You request we pay attention,
but, my dear, you're not "all that,"
and your bland and baseless rantings
are just truly falling flat.
Maybe, in the morning,
as you stand atop your hill,
you'll have a bite of reality ~
it's an occasionally bitter pill.
In all your finger-pointing,
as you prepare another post,
it might be wise to see the whole
of that in which you're so engrossed.
Please ponder that your info
may be just a tad askew,
and the root of some of these issues
may begin with folks like you ~
who believe they know the facts,
but just consume what they are fed,
and without haste or caution
pull at every loosened thread
until the tapestry of truth
sits unraveled and all frayed
because it doesn't suit your narrative
or your failed attempts to persuade.

Wednesday Two-fer

Hoping this helps my day ...
and yours too!

Do everything
with a good heart
and expect nothing
in return
and you will never
be disappointed.

Do small things
with great love.

Enjoy your day.

Kindness

As you are perhaps shopping
for seasonal gifts this year,
maybe ponder simple kindness.
You can gift lots and lots of people
with kindness.
It costs exactly NOTHING!
The recipient though ...
WOW!
that simple gesture can mean
the absolute world.
We may notice things
that are not quite right.
We may wish they would
be in better shape,
eat better,
wear more flattering clothing,
or the like,
but they are deserving
of a great many compliments
as well.
Why dwell on the negative?
Just a kind word,
a helpful act,
a little support,
is a precious gift.

Words

As many of you know,
I pen poetry.
I have learned to listen
to the little voice within
(and/or from above)
that either ekes out
or screeches
things I'm supposed to put to paper.
Sometimes, it is at 3 am.
That may sound exhausting,
but if I don't get up and jot things down,
the words will swim about for hours.
Occasionally,
I have stopped a workout
to find something to write on.
Intermittently,
(and thankfully not too often,)
it is while I'm driving.
This weekend,
it was while I was showering.
Now I'm pondering
if I need one of those wet boards
to jot stuff down in there
if it happens again.
LOL
Listen to your inner artist.
Share your gifts

Keep your eyes open
for a new poem soon.

Magic

There is magic in this season.
There is something special
that lingers in the air.
A sweet, divine blanket
that wraps you up
in wonder and kindness.
It's in the lyrics of the carols;
in the gleaming eyes of children;
in the twinkling lights;
the iridescent ribbons;
the joy in hearts.
If someone has lost sight
of these things,
please share with them
a little of your magic.

Everyone needs
a little magic.

Tiny but mighty

This little tidbit
flickered across my screen.
I almost missed it.
But it kind of whacked me
in the forehead.

Apparently someone
(perhaps myself)
needs to see this.

Yesterday is heavy.
Put it down.

Small and Simple

Stole this from a framily member
who just oozes a beautiful and calming love
every time I look in her direction.

Thanks Amy!
(She did not write it, but I'm sure sharing!)

We think
that it is the big moments
that define our lives ~
the wedding, the baby,
the new house, the dream job.
But really ...
the big moments of happiness
are just the punctuation marks.
The narrative is written
in the small and simple.

Nonsense

I may actually have posted this previously.
It just seemed, however,
appropriate to share again.

I do hope it finds its intended target.

The older you get
the more quiet you become.
Life humbles you so deeply
as you age.
You realize
how much nonsense
you've wasted time on.

Agree with absolutely everything,
except maybe the quiet thing.
Oh boy ... do I use my voice.
Perhaps its meant as introspective.

Have a totally tantalizing Tuesday.

Soggy Saturday Snippets

Here's a pair of ponderings
to whisk you through your weekend.
Good stuff right here.

You cannot change someone
who does not see an issue
with their actions.
You can only change
how you react to them.

and

There will always be someone
who can't see your worth.
Don't let it be you.

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Dadgum It!

Have always loved this quote.
Not certain of its origin.
Don't really care.
It's spot freakin' on!

If your path demands you
to walk through hell ...
walk as if
you own the place.

Happy Friday.
You're welcome.

Three Things

A wonderful Wednesday to you.
Hoping this finds you well.
Been doing a lot of chatting lately.
With old friends.
With new friends.
And here is the general consensus
of nearly every conversation.

Life can get squirrely.
Sometimes downright messy.
You can be faced with every malady
and tragedy and obstacle.

Most absolutely every single one is
figureoutable!

As you face these challenges,
remember three very important things.
1. Not everything is personal.
2. Your attitude matters.
3. Be a good human.

Stand Still

By one Mary Davis,
we have been blessed
with this ...

Sometimes,
when we just stand still,
the grace finds us.

Have a beautiful day, friends.

Wow

Very teeny,
but this was quite powerful ...

Some people are so poor,
all they have is money.

Sunday Special

Hey kids!
Here's a little treat for ya!
I don't normally post on Sunday,
but took a few days for Thanksgiving.
So ...
the first part woke me up on turkey morn at about 3 am.
The second part is just The Big Man's humor shining through.
Happy Sunday.
Enjoy!

Thanksgiving 2023
by Lyn Marinello

The turkey's in the oven and so begins the dance
to a grand, abundant feast and a tryptophanic trance.
Sweet potatoes on to boil, marshmallows lie in wait.
A Heavenly aroma begins to emanate.
A casserole of green beans; mushroom soup with onions fried,
and that crisping turkey skin which, by everyone's been spied.
The stuffing has been fluffed and the cider has been chilled.
It's a mystifying miracle that nothing, as yet's been spilled.
Cranberry has been plated as the gravy thickens up.
Plates are joined by napkins as it's almost time to sup.
The seats begin to fill, a joy lays heavy in the air,
hands are joined around the table as there comes a grateful prayer.
"The bounty that's before us, a repast by hands so deft,
is made minimal in import by those to my right and to my left.
I am thankful for your presence, indebted for our ties.
Now let's destroy this big old bird, and eat up all the pies."

Replace

I didn't write this,
but I believe it.

When we replace
"Why is this
happening to me?"
with
"What is this
trying to teach me?"
everything shifts.

Humble yourself
long enough
to improve yourself.

Thankful

Hello, friends and family.

Hoping, as you read this,
on Thanksgiving eve,
that you are preparing to
enter into the chaos that is
Turkey and parades and football
and inevitably an uncomfortable
conversation or two.
In all the noise,
please remember to take a moment,
breathe,
and realize
who and what you have around you.
Time is a fleeting breeze
that we need to embrace
and let wash over us.
I am thankful for the food before me,
the framily beside me,
and the love between us.
I am thankful
for you.

Glass Houses

These are the words that woke me up yesterday.
I know there are folks
it is written for ...
and there are folks
it is written to.
Hope you're in the right group.
Either way ...
keep it light and have a Monday morning chuckle ...

Glass Houses
by Lyn Marinello

Hey you, up there, in your house made of glass
passing judgement on others from your widening ass.
You scoff at small victories you deem minimal gains;
laughing at struggles that are really dirt on your panes.
You belittle the efforts of those made below;
forgetting your home's transparency provides quite a show.
You criticize freely, without thought; without care;
hurling barbs and big rocks from your 'castle' up there.
But it's long been a phrase unliked from said thrones,
that those in glass houses just shouldn't throw stones.
Here's something to ponder as you castigate all,
your pride's enormity will be dwarfed by your fall.
I offer a suggestion, with a humbled demeanor,
perhaps what you need is some strong window cleaner;
for the faults that you find in every direction,
may more aptly be your own broken reflection.

Two Simple Things

Two simple items for your weekend:

Expect nothing.
Appreciate everything.

You're welcome.
Enjoy!

Be The One

I found this
and Lyn-ified it!

:-)

Be the one
who nurtures and builds.
Be the one
who has an understanding
and forgiving heart.
Be the one
who looks for the best
in people.
Be the one
who compliments.
Be the one
who smiles.
Be the one
who cheers for even
the tiniest accomplishments.
Be the one
who brings light and hope.
But ...
most of all ...
be the one
who leaves people
better than you found them.

What's In A Name?

Mr. Shakespeare surely left us thinking, didn't he?

Let's take a moment here ...
and I'd absolutely love to get some feedback
on your name or your children's names ...

My mom thought she made up my name,
but I was basically named after a grandmother.
My brothers, say the rumor mill,
were all named after old boyfriends or crushes.
We chose our kids' names very specifically.
Deanna Sarene was in total hope
in that it means "beautiful calm".
She's a Taurus and takes after her grandmother,
so the calm is a rarity, but she is beautiful beyond measure.
Miles Vinson is a nod to his Greek and Italian heritage
and directly correlates to his father's name ~
"merciful son of the conqueror".

People name their children for many reasons ...
familial lines, strong historical figures, gods and goddesses,
religious names, powerful names and peaceful names.
I've got friends who chose names tied to nature.
I've got friends who did alliterative naming.
I've got friends who chose names in opposition to familial names.
I've got friends who chose 'old soul' names.
I've got friends who did alphabetical names.

Naming a human is an incredibly personal and purposeful journey;
and that journey belongs to the parents alone.
For those that wish to judge ... have a few of your own and have at it.
For those that disapprove ... your approval is not needed.
In life, we are faced with a great many choices ...
how about we support one another and whomever they raise ...

My name?  Lynette Carol ...
Tiny, free, strong, happiness-singing idol

Trust

This is not mine,
but, boy howdy,
am I sharing!

Trust
that every time
something
falls away,
something beautiful

I have a sign in my home
that reads:

Everything will be okay
in the end.
If it's not okay;
it's not the end.

These are some dandy tips
to carry with you.

Time for a Ch-Angel

It is time
to do what this blog is intended to do
and that is to acknowledge those folks
who are "Ch-Angels" ~
Angels of Change.
Folks, like this beautiful friend,
who live a selfless, beautiful life
of servitude and grace,
constantly putting everyone else
before herself.
She gives easily and completely.
She is kind and supportive.
She is tender and loving.
She is faith-filled and a true blessing.
She walks with passion and purpose.
I am so incredibly honored and privileged
to have had this extraordinary soul
stroll into my life
and decide to take up residence.
You make a difference, friend.
You are a gift.
I am humbled that you choose
to call me 'friend'.
Thank you, Ch-Angel Stephanie.
Love you much!

Nature

It's National Play Outside Day.
Only seems appropriate
to introduce my latest work.
Enjoy and please let me know
what you think.

Nature
by Lyn Marinello

The secret of the mountains
rests in the layers of its peaks
In the denseness of the forest;
the peaceful quiet that it speaks
In the solitary paths
        along a flowered meadow's edge
In the moss upon the stone
        on a vista's craggy ledge
In the leaves that whisper history
        as the sunlight filters through
Upon the daintiest of daisies;
in a single drop of morning dew
In the stillness of a snow
as it coddles spring's new growth
Like intimate old buddies
        that keep a timeless oath
As summer shares its energy;
        abundance bathes the land
Kaleidoscopic colors
        ooze from God's autumnal hand.

What If ...

What if
you simply were content
with your thoughts?
What if
you were happy
with your lifestyle?
What if
you chose to seek
the positive in others?
What if
you opted to find
good things in every day?
What if
can be.

hang.

Thankful for the Years

I wrote this last year.
It embodies thankfulness and remembering and writing - all in one.
I know it may touch a soul or two out there.
Sadly, I'm aware, that far too many can relate.
I hope, by any means, that you enjoy.

Thankful for the Years
by Lyn Marinello (2022)

I'd rather celebrate your birthday, than mourn your last sweet sip of air.
Wander fondly through the memories, than choke on thick despair.
Rounds and rounds of golf and the trophies that we won.
You, on keyboard, in your glory, entertaining everyone.
Driving me to dance class; indulging tap, jazz and ballet.
Duets on the piano. Diffusing the Saturday morning fray.
Plaster of Paris parties. Typesetting Gestalt for days on end.
You never met a stranger; just another brand new friend.
The endless urn of coffee. Proud of my tricks in bars.
Craps games in the kitchen. All those St. Peter's Church bazaars.
Mending my broken heart with all the wisdom that you share.
Nervously cheering floor routines, throwing my body uselessly in the air.
So very many nights of varied music and of games.
Watching all our home productions. Sorting fists and fights and blames.
Allowing and instilling that we care for every stray.
Whether bi- or quadrupedal; you'd welcome them to stay.
Holidays were epic. You just left magic in your wake.
Stood strong against all obstacles; taught us to bend but never break.
Life, you said, is much like gambling. You've got to always roll the dice.
Be nice no matter what ... until it's time to not be nice.
The chasm you left is gaping. Some days, still, are hard to walk.
I want to pick my cell phone up so we can laugh and sing and talk.
The strength that you imparted helps me navigate those dips.
And I find myself quite frequently making use of your sage quips.
And with a photo or a tune, I'm occasionally overwhelmed by tears.
Saddened by the hole you left. Eternally thankful for the years.

A spoooooooooooky little tidbit today ...

the abyss

Sometimes Someone

I feel like this may be a repeat,
but ... "Sometimes" ...
we need to hear things more than once.

Sometimes,
people don't need
help or advice.
They may simply need
someone
to care without expectation,
to listen without judgement,
and
to see them for
the uniquely beautiful creature
that they are.

(Of course, I had to 'do mah thang')

Enjoy your Monday,
your Halloween,
and your week.

the hurdles you have leaped,
the struggles you've overcome,
the tasks you've tackled,
the fears you have faced,
the person you're becoming.
It is
a good day
to love yourself.

Do what makes your soul joyful.
Do what God has gifted you with.

Home

Not sure
who penned this,
but it is very true.

she was
an adventurer at heart
but, oh
how she loved
to be home.

Home is not always
a building.
Sometimes,
it is the company
of those you love
the most.

The Dickens, You Say

A little healthy
Monday morning tidbit
for you.

I have been bent
and broken,
but ...
I hope ...
into a
better shape.

Have an extraordinary week.

Double Dose

A double dose
for a couple of Lisas
and whomever else
might need to read it ...

I know
the wind is strong,
but so are you.

and

Wishing you
the biggest slice
of happy today.

Wow!

This, right here,
is amaaaaaaaaaazing!

I withdraw
from people and places
from time to time.
I need space from a world
that is filled with
millions of mouths
that talk too much
and never have
anything to say.

Wow!

Perspective

There was much chatter recently
amongst some folks and myself
about perspective.

In very simple terms ...
I am only 5'5".
You're nearly 6'.
Whatever we look at together,
we are going to see differently.
We will ingest it differently.
We will interpret it differently.
We will enjoy it differently.
We will accept it or reject it differently.
And that is all okay.

We also are all guilty of hanging on
to baggage that no longer takes us
where we need or want to be.
We've got to learn to leave it,
set it down, forget it,
or throw it off the dadgum train.
If it no longer serves you,
it doesn't deserve the space it's taking up
in your life.
There are far better things to occupy your time ...
like rummy and casinos and golf and hugs.

Perspective is only a tool,
not a life sentence.

Love you.

Puzzles

Now THIS
is some fantabulous advice ...

Not every puzzle
is yours to solve.

Ponder that one for a bit.
I may be off for a smidge,
making memories and
not solving puzzles.
Enjoy your weekend.

Until we meet again ...

I Love You

Today is National I Love You Day!

So ...
please know how much you're loved.
If no one else tells you today,
come back to this and read it,
then re-read it,
and read it again.
You are so very special.
So unique.
So extraordinary.
So necessary.
So integral.
You are a needed piece
in the great puzzle
we are all trying to put together.

I Love You!

Pieces

This just grabbed me by the heart
this morning.
Thought I'd share ...

I am pieces
of all the places I have been,
and the people I have loved.
I've been stitched together by
song lyrics, book quotes, adventure,
late night conversations,
moonlight, and
the smell of coffee.

~ Brooke Hampton

Thank you for helping
to make me who I am.

Is You

Apparently said or written by Andrew McMahon,
this goes out to my hubby,
my children,
my grandchildren,
my family,
my friends,
and my framily ...

Of all the things
my hands have held,
the best, by far,
is you.

Know, please,
how very much you're loved.

Attention

Attention
is the
rarest and purest
form of
generosity.

If we cannot afford people
our attention,
we will surely lose
the connections that bind us.

Layers

Found this. Love it.
Sharing.

It is important
to remind yourself
that this is not a race.
Do what you can today.
You will get
to where you're going.
Progress
comes in layers.

your only available transportation
is a leap of faith.

Retreat

And as if on queue ...
I got this as an email.
I am certain I am NOT the only one
who needs to see/read this.

Hermann Hesse

~ Within you
there is a stillness
and a sanctuary
to which you can retreat
at any time.

Be Here, Now

This is not my normal shtick.
I was moved, one day on our cruise,
to pen this.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Be Here, Now
by Lyn Marinello

From the tiny little infant
Who knows nothing but its Momma,
To the active rowdy toddler
Who wants only your attention;
The rebellious, angst-filled teen
Who is angry with the world;
The eager dream-filled graduate
Who seeks a conquered world;
To the sweet and swooning newlyweds
That envision forever away;
To the sleep-deprived new parents
Fantasizing of off-spring's futures;
To the weary, near retirement
Concerned with security for remaining days ...

Here's a bit of wisdom
that can be shared at any age ...

Be present in the here
Be active in the now
Embrace each stage of life
Don't wish them all away
Count your every blessing
Hold the ones you cherish
Know the priceless value
Of the hands and hearts you touch
Use kind words and compliments
Face each thorny obstacle
As a challenge to improve
Be grateful for every moment
Savor togetherness and laughter
There is magic in making memories
Seek to slow the ticking of the clock
Life is precious, as are you, be here ... now.

Gratefully

Some beautiful words by Maya ...

If you must look back,
do so forgivingly.
If you must look forward,
do so prayerfully.
However,
the wisest thing you can do
is be present in the present ...
gratefully.

Priority

Found this.
Love this.
Sharing!

Make yourself
a priority.
At the end
of the day
you are your longest
and most important
commitment.

And Still

For whatever reason
I am drawn
to share this this morning.
Don't know if it's for me ...
or someone else ...
or both.

But here she is ...

God knew
what was in my darkness
and still
He loved me

NLPD

Today, folks, is a titled day
that should be celebrated EVERY day,
but, if we are directed
and given opportunity to do something,
then let's make the absolute most of it!
Today is ...

National Love People Day!

I was showered with bliss bombs yesterday.
Gifts that have already been sent out
on the pay-it-forward highway.
It is genuinely humbling and heartwarming
to receive a blessing
when you didn't even realize
how very much you could use one.

Get out there today
(and every day)
and love some people!
Do some kindness.
Share some love.
Lend a hand.
Offer hope.

Friday, September 29, 2023

Infuse

During a little meditation this morning,
one word kept coming up ...

infuse.

Infuse your heart space
with kindness.
Infuse your hands
with helpfulness.
Infuse your arms
with comfort and compassion.
Infuse your head
with hope and positivity.
Infuse yourself
with love
and you'll be able to become
what those around you need.

or so was the basic message
that I received and am sharing.

The Light

From one Alexander Elle,
this is fantastic!

The sun will rise and set
regardless.
What we choose to do
with the light while it is here
is up to us.
Journey wisely.

Beating

I cannot take credit for this.
That belongs to Erica Layne.
But I believe it to be very true ...

It takes practice
to tune out
the loud opinions around you
and to tune in
to the quiet beating
of your own heart.

Much love, friends!

Get Out There

Hey there kids!
I'm back!

So, we celebrated what should have been our 30th anniversary,
but thanks to Covid, we celebrated our 33rd
with a Mediterranean cruise.
We truly were off the grid almost entirely
and were just able to enjoy
some extraordinary vistas, ports, and people.

To disconnect, recharge, and just unwind
was much needed and thoroughly enjoyed.
It was a long-awaited, much-deserved,
truly invigorating adventure.

Maybe you cannot go that far,
but go somewhere,
do something,
new and adventurous,
without the digital tethers
we all seem to be bound by.

Explore.
Live.
Get out there.

Look inside and live

I will be taking a brief hiatus.
I will, however, leave you with
this ...

The beauty of being lost
is the same thing
that makes it scary ...
we must look within ourselves
to find the way.

and ...
(although the first line is
definitely debatable ...
it is absolute in its entirety.)

No, we don't need more sleep.
It's our souls that are tired,
not our bodies.
We need nature. We need magic.
We need adventure. We need freedom.
We need truth. We need stillness.
We don't need more sleep.
We need to wake up and live!

Go!
Live!

Ch-Angels

I have seen
and met Angels
wearing the disguise
of ordinary people
living simple lives
doing extraordinary things
with a joy
and a gratitude
using only the gifts
they were graced with
by God.

Thank you
for being
a part
of my journey.

Growth in Gratitude

Absolutely LOVE this ...

Raise your words,
not your voice.
It is rain
that grows flowers,
not thunder.

Monday, September 11, 2023

In Honor ...

As we are reminded
to Never Forget ...
this was delivered to me
and I thought it was
a fitting tribute
to the folks who gave so much,
so selflessly,
in a time of such incredible chaos
and uncertainty ...

Even the most kindest of givers,
the strongest of souls,
and bravest of hearts,
deserve to be reminded
they are valued for what they do,
and loved for everything they give.

From the 343, first responders,
police, medical,
to the average joes
on the streets and in the skies ...
we will Never Forget,
and thank you.

Nature and Nurture

When pondering nature,
there is a quote
that will always come up:

Take only pictures.
Leave only footprints.

Let's apply this
to our human landscape ...

Take only troubles.
Leave only heartprints.

We are here for such a short time;
and in reality,
we are just walking each other home.
Let us ease one another's sufferings
whenever we are able,
and leave folks better than we found 'em.
Healthier, happier, braver, bolder, loved.

Feel It

This little tidbit
from one Nayyirah Waheed
is simply fantastic ...

feel it.
the thing
you don't want
to feel.
feel it.
and be free.

Always

It is very difficult
to find an "always".
If you find an always partner,
you are incredibly lucky.
If you work an always job,
you are privileged.
If you've got always friends,
you are truly blessed.
Pets, although near perfect,
sadly are not always.
But ... do you know what you have
that is absolutely always?

Gratitude!

There is always, always, always,
something to be grateful for.

The Quiet One

This truly resonates with me.
Don't ever confuse
my quietude and calm
with complacency and meekness.

Be the calmest person
in the room.
Know more
than they think.
Think more
than you say,
and notice
absolutely everything.
People fear
the quiet one.

His Hands

Thanks, kids, for putting up with my very brief hiatus.
I needed a little down time.
So, a little while ago, I shared what I woke up to,
but knew it wasn't done.
It finished itself over the long weekend.

Believe what you will,
but unless I am truly driven to write
by something larger than myself,
put this one beside the last one
and explain it to me.

I go where I am led, learning to listen,
and follow the gift I've been given.

Enjoy and let me know whatcha think ...

His Hands
by Lyn Marinello

In His heart He knew me
before my very birth.
Steadfast in my purpose,
certain, always, of my worth.

In His eyes He sees me,
through every sinful flaw,
as a beautiful creation,
though often battered, beaten, raw.

In His words I'm offered
a path toward sweet salvation,
humbled by commandments,
on my knees; great revelation.

Through His grace I'm gifted
to dwell within His word,
to see clearly where He leads me
when my own earthly vision's blurred.

In His hands He'll guide me,
He will protect me and He'll hold me,
He'll uplift me and restrain me,
and joyfully, He will mold me ...

What Matters Most

What a beautiful concept ...

Each morning
we are born again.
What we do today
is what matters most.

Go. Matter.

Good Morning

Happy September 1st to you!
Good Morning ~

Here's a brief tidbit
from Marcus Aurelius ...

When you arise
in the morning,
think of what
a precious privilege
it is to be alive ~
to breathe,
to think,
to enjoy,
to love!

No Lyn-embellishment needed.

Fly

As I've said before, when there are words
that I am gifted with, I wake up and write.
There is someone, somewhere,
that needs to see this.
I hope it finds its target
I am thankful for and humbled by the opportunity.

Fly
by Lyn Marinello

there may not be bruises
but you've been beaten and battered
isolated and lonely
you've simply forgotten what mattered
your battle scars are internal
they are ragged, rough and deep
and waves of sheer inequity
over you woefully sweep
a once fierce and fiery spirit
reduced to a mere random spark
a radiant and glowing soul
growing angry in the dark
you've been tied up without ropes
and stuffed within a box
set adrift upon a lonely sea
void of any visible docks
you've been told your dreams don't count
that you're not all you could be
there aren't any tethers
but you certainly are not free
you're walking on a tightrope
unaware you are your own net
unsure of each decision
filled with gnawing, raw regret
you stare into an unforgiving mirror
lost sight of the beauty that once was there
distraught and dismayed with so many things
wondering why life is so unfair
grounded by guilt and by fear
met with disapproval each time you try
spread your wings, my beautiful bird
for you were always meant to fly.

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Ahh, yes ... this

As I'm trying to catch up on sleep,
worrying about kids,
being concerned about family,
and trying to keep work patrons happy ...
I saw this and it sure struck home.

Perhaps someone else
needs to see this, too.

My goal
is no longer
to get more done,
but rather
to have
less to do.

Obstacles

Found. Loved.
Expounded.

Obstacles
do not block
the path;
they are the path.
It is in the overcoming
of these obstacles
that lessons are learned,
strength is gained,
tenacity is forged,
and life is lived.
Don't be afraid
of your obstacles.
Embrace them.
Use them.
Enjoy the view
from atop them.

NTD

Today is National Thoughtful Day!

It is a celebration meant to bring goodwill,
in whatever ways are available to you,
with a spirit of generosity toward others;
and an awareness of fulfilling another's needs,
to acknowledge an achievement,
to offer a pick-me-up,
to be available
to inspire and assure
another's worth and purpose.

Go be thoughtful
and watch the ripples
make a difference
in places you never imagined.

Either

Found one. Made the other.
Either one would be fine by me.

Meet me
where the sun
touches the mountains
or
greets the sea.

Enjoy wherever
you find yourself today.

In my dreams

As I was drifting off to sleep last night,
desperately needing rest
yet mind racing through the day,
these words filled my head.
I was a bad listener
and did not write them down.
They must be important,
because they came again this morning.
I either need to share
or continue on to finish this one.
I hope you enjoy its beginnings ...

His Hands
by Lyn Marinello

With His hands he will guide me,
protect me and hold me,
uplift me, restrain me,
and joyfully mold me ...

Whatcha think?

Share a Kindness

And so I find these things along my day
that light a spark or catch my eye
or steal my heart.
I take them and hold them, assess their weight,
make them my own,
and share them with you kids.

If we cannot share a kindness,
why are we here?

We are braver with that first step,
kinder when we care,
stronger when we listen,
and smarter when we share.
There are two things
you are in complete control of
in your life:
your attitude and your effort.
Reactions don't create
what responses may provide.

Have a beautiful day.

Light

Quite short
and sweet
and simple ...
(and a Lyn-tweak as well)

It's your light
that lights
the world.

Shine on.

BAAD

Today is National Be An Angel Day!
What a glorious day to have a birthday!

Get out there
and be a blessing
to someone.
Share a smile.
Give a compliment.
Help with a task.
Be kind.
Fluff up those wings.
Shine up that halo.
Go ...
Be An Angel!

Thanks for being you!

Monday, August 21, 2023

Hello Monday!

Good morning, kids!

Here's a couple of nuggets
on your Monday morning
to get your week started
in the right and positive direction ...

Life
is a series
of thousands
of tiny miracles.
Notice them.
~
To remember
who you are,
you need to forget
who they told you
to be.

Make this a marvelous Monday!

Two-fer Saturday

Happy to offer up
a special two-fer this Saturday.
(with a little Lyn-tweak, of course)

Here's hoping your weekend
is just as special as you are.

If it's out of your hands,
it deserves
freedom from your mind as well.

and ...
while moving forward ...

Your task is not
to foresee a beautiful future,
but to enable it.

Thank You

As I prepare to celebrate
another trip around the sun,
I just want to take a moment
to say "Thank You!"

for your listening,
for your lessons,
for your lifting up,
for your laughter,
for your loyalty,
for your leadership,
for your logic,
for your likeability,
for your love.

Thank You!
Yes ...
I'm talking to you.

Thursday Mish Mash

A couple of fantabulous quips
that just are packed with truth.

My goal is no longer
to get more done,
but rather
to have less to do.
~
There is
a nobility in compassion;
a beauty in empathy;
and
a grace in forgiveness.
~
They tried
to bury me.
They didn't know
I am a seed.
Nothing
can bring you peace
but yourself.

Key Words

Not mine, but love this!

Words
are like keys,
if you
choose them right.
They can
open any heart
and
shut any mouth.

Fantastic!

Energy

Gotta love a little Buddha Tuesday:

Be the
energy
you want to
attract.

Go ...
be positive!

Celebrate You

I was listening to a meditation
after a workout this morning
and this line,
as some often do,
kinda screamed at me and said,
"you need to share me"
and so I am.

Celebrate YOU!
Tiny little things.
Waking up to a new day.
Working out - putting the effort in.
Feeding and dressing all the children.
Having a good meeting at work.
Being productive.
Sharing a smile and a kind word.
Being present.
Giving out hugs.
Listening.
Making dinner.
Dinner without phones.
Dancing in the kitchen.
Cleaning up before bed.
Being thankful.
Realizing you're beautiful
and amazing
and important.
The world is better
because you're in it.
Celebrate YOU!

Choose

Found and finagled ...
as I do.

I choose
to live by choice,
not chance;
to be motivated,
not manipulated;
to be useful,
not used;
to make changes,
not excuses;
to excel,
not compete;
to encourage,
not sabotage;
to listen and learn,
not respond and react;
to care and comfort,
not degrade and demean.
I choose
self-esteem,
not self pity.
I choose to listen
to my inner voice,
not the random opinions
of others.
I choose to be happy,
not crappy.
I choose positives
and silver linings
and the innate goodness
that sits deep within each of us.
What do you choose?

Rise and Shine!

Good Friday Morning, Kids!
Here's a wonderful start
to the end of your week
and the beginning
of your weekend ...

Just like the sun,
you are here
to bring light
into this world.
Rise and Shine!

Thank you
for shining on me.

The View

So this is not mine.
I saw it on a friend's post.
But, good gravy, does it need to be shared.

The way people view you.

Sometimes I think about
the different characters I play in everybody’s story.⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives
and a Godsend in others.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do
with the person I truly am.
The lens that others view you through
is colored by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.
Some people see your bright personality as endearing
and others see it as annoying.
Some people think you’re weak and emotional
and others feel safe to be themselves around you.
Some people think you’re rude and selfish
and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.
Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look
and others think you’re conceited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you have to understand
is that you have no authority over how people view you
so never try to control the way others see you
because the only thing that truly matters
when the dust settles down at the end of the day
is what you genuinely see in yourself.

A New Chapter

Today is
National Book Lovers Day!
Life is like a book.
Don't judge it by its cover.
You are the author of your own story.
There may be some dark pages,
but you are more than capable
of starting a new chapter.
You touch hearts,
bring joy,
invoke tears,
and are worthy of
every
single
page.
Write on, friend.
Make yourself a masterpiece.

Today ...

Today ...
in addition to asking you
to let your Happy out
on National Happiness Happens Day ...
I want you to ponder something.

It's a truly spectacular item.
It is rare and unique and stunning.
It is bold and beautiful and brave.
It is strong and sturdy and steadfast.
It is creative and clever and charismatic.
It is an integral piece
of the beautiful tapestry
that is this current place and time.

It is YOU!

Don't question yourself.
Don't doubt your abilities.
Don't dismiss your purpose.
You are loved and needed.
Have a terrific Tuesday.

Let It Be

I did not write this, but it is fantastic!
Enjoy ...

Let today be
what today needs to be.
Whether you travel through
quickly or slowly,
breathe deep,
no matter your pace.
Take action
where you need to take action
and,
if a moment calls for stillness,
then embrace stillness.
You are allowed
to welcome the ebb and flow.
You are allowed
to pace yourself through every unknown.
One day at a time.
One hour at a time.
One minute at a time.
Perhaps you will find
there is grace to make it through this
just fine.

Let it be ...

Some Saturday Sagan

This here ...
is some good stuff ...
that a LOT of people
could stand to read,
and implement ...

Let us
temper our criticism
with kindness.
None of us
comes fully equipped.

Thanks, Carl.

Plenty

This here is a gem!

There's a few folks,
perhaps myself included,
that need to see this.

You don't always
have to be
doing something.
You can just be,
and that is plenty.

~ Alice Walker

Good ...
and plenty.

A Thursday Reminder

I didn't write this,
but it is cute
and simple
and perfect
and true:

From
morning's first light
til
evening's last star,
never forget
how very special
you are!

In the grand tapestry of life,
we each are a unique thread,
integral to the beauty
and complexity
of the final masterpiece.

(Ok, the last part
I did write!)

:-)
Have a great day.

Fire

From one of our favorites ... MT!

Go out
into the world today
and love the people
you meet.
Let your presence
spark new light
in the hearts
of others.

Get out there, folks,
and set the joint
on fire!

Tuesday, August 1, 2023

Here's to us ...

Here's to all of us
beautiful confused imperfections
who wake up and keep trying
every day.
Remember ...
to never be a prisoner
of your past.
It was a lesson,
not a life sentence.
You just keep
shining your most
brilliant, stunning light.

Attendance Not Required

Saw this and absolutely loved it.
Thought some of you
might enjoy it as well.

Just because some people
are fueled by drama,
doesn't mean
you have to attend
the performance.

Enjoy your day
and the opportunities
of a brand new week!

Friday's Lesson

Sometimes,
we need to learn
the same lesson
over and over and over and over ...

Be careful
with how much
you tolerate.
You are
teaching them
how they
can treat you.

Over and over and over ...

Today,
we're going to learn a new word ...

Thoreau-ing this at you ...

On this Tuesday morning,
a little Henry David for you ...

To affect
the quality of the day,
that is
the highest of arts.

To quote a much closer source,
when you're feeling a little less
than your wonderful self ...

You're pretty.

Touch

This is not mine but ...
I hope I do.
I hope I do.
I hope I do.

When you touch someone's life ...
it is a privilege.
When you touch someone's heart ...
it is a blessing.
When you touch someone's mind ...
it is an honor.
When you touch someone's soul ...
it is a triumph.
When you touch someone's spirit ...
it is a miracle.

Get out there.
Touch folks!!!

Saturday Silly

This made me chuckle this morning.
Hope it also brings a smile
to your beautiful face as well.

(and it is also true!)

Never
blame someone else
for the
road you're on.
That's your
own asphalt.

Thank you.
I'll be here all week.

Be Someone

Today is National Be Someone Day!
It is a day that challenges each of us
to take just a tiny bit of time
to make the life of a child better.
Pay for the ice cream.
Listen to a story.
Answer the pretend phone.
Hold a hand.
Read together.
Go for a walk.
Get on the floor with them.
Build a blanket fort.
Share a hug.
Be Someone for Them today!

Again and again

From one Mr. Maslow,
thank you for this ...

In any given moment,
we have two options;
to step forward into growth,
or to step back into safety.
Growth must be chosen
again and again;
fear must be overcome
again and again.

That's good stuff, right there.

Others

Not mine,
but I like it!
Sharing for whomever
needs to see this.

As we join our energies
with others,
we become part of something
that is more powerful
than the individuals
within it.

Happiness

Found this.
Love this.
Sharing!!!

Happiness
is found
in the simplest of things.
It is found
in gratitude,
in good conversation,
in friendship,
in an achieved goal,
in a fond memory,
in love.
Happiness is found
in all the simple magnificence
of life.

Hey YOU

Yes, you.
The one reading this
who might be doubting yourself,
questioning things,
feeling insecure or minimal.
This is for you ...

Thank you ...
for being a generous soul
and a beautiful spirit
in a world that could use
a million more people
just like you.
Thanks for all you do
and continue to do
to make each day you touch
just a little bit better.
You are loved,
needed,
inspiring,
and appreciated
more than words can say
and more than you will ever know.

Saturday Hemingpoe

A little mish-mash of Hemingway and Poe
for your Saturday morning.
This is for those of you
who might use your pen as a release.

There is nothing to writing.
All you have to do
is sit down at a typewriter
and bleed.
~EH

Words have no power
to impress the mind
without the exquisite horror
of their reality.

Use your pain.
Use your angst.
Use your anger.
Make it into
something extraordinary.

Plant Yourself

Plant yourself in places
that give you space to grow,
a chance to spread your roots,
and
where you are nourished
and encouraged to become
all the wonderful things
that you are truly meant to be.

Wonder

From E.B. White ...

Always
be on the lookout
for the presence
of wonder.

There is beauty
and grace
and blessings
everywhere.

Ch-Angel Time

Back to basics for a moment ...

Just giving a shout out to a few Ch-Angels
who brighten my days and buoy my spirits
without fail.

Ch-Angel Linda ~
Baby, let me tell you ...
your sweet smile and always bubbly soul
shine such a light not only in the tiniest of closets,
but out into the world in general.
You give all of yourself,
without hesitation or query,
for the benefit of others.
It is a blessing to be in your presence.

Ch-Angel Kristen ~
The continuous string of notes and noises
that announce your arrival each day
just brings joy and happiness to each visit.
Your tenacity toward life is an inspiration.
Your generosity and kindness oozes
from your every effort.
Your sincerity and honesty is refreshing.
The sharing of critter videos makes my heart smile.
I wish more folks realized your value
and acknowledged your impact and worth.
It is a privilege to call you friend.

I hope you kids out there
have some Ch-Angels of your own.

The Best

Of course ...
I found this ...
and made it my own.

(Do you kids really expect anything less?)

Some of
the best moments
are never captured
by cameras.
They are not posted
on social media.
They are cherished
in private
with the best people,
in laughter,
in conversation,
in tears,
in silence,
in love.
Some of
the best memories
will never make an album,
a reel, or Instagram.
They will be etched forever
in the mind
and in the heart.
Some of
the best people
take root in your soul
and decorate it beautifully.

Be There ...

Didn't find anyone to credit for this,
but know that I didn't come up with it,
but ... boy, howdy ...
do I believe it!

Be there
for others,
but ...
never
leave yourself
behind.

Growing Old

As promised,
the words came and I am sharing.
Please let me know whatcha think ...

Growing Old
by Lyn Marinello

It very well may have started;
    the seed of my self-loathing,
with the lack of old abilities,
and the tightening of my clothing,
the graying of my unkempt hair,
    darkening spots upon my skin,
that fact that when I stand too fast
    my head begins to spin.
Parts have started sagging,
despite attempts to fend that off,
and every single morning,
    there's a nagging, nasty cough.
Occasionally there is creaking
    in appendages of mine,
and I find no denigration
    that, sometimes, lunch is wine.
Running seems excessive
    and 10:00 pm seems crazy late;
comfort's a priority,
is that pie that's on my plate?
I purposefully enter a room
    to complete some mundane task
and stand in sheer bewilderment ...
"Why'd I come in here?" I will ask.
I know lyrics from the 80's
    and my childhood home address,
I can't remember yesterday,
    but, humbly, I digress ...
Just when I begin to think
I can accept my mounting flaws,
another blessing's tossed in my lap ...
    the joys of menopause.
I can't see like I used to
and my hearing's not too keen
I'm cold one minute, hot the next;
    rarely anything in between.
Heaven, however, gets closer.
I'm treated with an occasional glimpse.
Enjoy your youth and faculties,
'cause ... growing old ... it ain't for wimps!

Today

A tiny little quote
that is quite powerful.

Today
is the beginning
of anything
you want.

Doesn't have to be momentous.
Just a simple, single
positive thought
can be your stepping stone
to an adventure
few dare to have.

Wild

This is not mine,
but I have made it so.

Wild women
are an unexplainable
spark of life.
They ooze freedom
and seek awareness;
they listen as passionately
as they speak;
they love boldly
and fiercely
and magnificently;
they belong to nobody
but themselves,
yet give a piece of who they are
to everyone they meet.
If you have met one,
hold on to her.
She may include you
in her chaos,
but she will also
share her magic.
You are in the presence
of an extraordinary light.

These People

I am so blessed
to be surrounded by
and supported by
a plethora
of these people.

I love people
that have no idea
how wonderful they are
and just wander around
make the world
a better place.

I am thankful
and privileged
to call you all
friends.

Hoover-ing on this Tuesday

Herbert said it well:

Freedom
is the open window
through which
pours the sunlight
of the human spirit
and human dignity.

A little Helen on your Monday

Here's a little Helen Keller
on your Monday
to start your week off right.

Faith
is the strength
by which
a shattered world
shall emerge
into the light.

Being

No need to embellish this one.
It is perfect as is.
Thanks Eckhart Tolle ...

In today's rush,
we all
think too much
seek too much
want too much
and forget about
the joy
of just being.

Rainbow

An old Native American proverb
goes a little something like this:
and it seems appropriate
as we bid farewell to June.

The soul
would have no rainbow,
had the eyes
no tears.

Thursday Chuckle

Forgive the simplicity today ...
I am tired.

But, hey, I hope this leaves you smiling ...

I don't like morning people;
or mornings,
or people.

Have a great day!

Pain

Of course,
you guessed it,
I found this and embellished ...
as I do.

You've got to resurrect
the deep pain within you
and give it a place to live
that's not within you.
Let it live in art.
Let it live in writing.
Let it live in music.
Let it be devoured
by building brighter connections.
Your soul is not a coffin
for that pain to be buried in.
Put it somewhere
out there
for someone else to relate to,
and begin their own healing,
knowing they are not alone.
And you, in turn,
begin to heal yourself.

You

There are a great many folks
that could benefit from seeing this.
Please share if you know
of someone in need.

You are not
the darkness
you endured.

You are
the light
that refused
to surrender.

Wildflowers

Like wildflowers,
you must
allow yourself to grow
in all the places
people thought
you never would.

Necessary

I did not write this,
but I could have ...
(and of course,
I've made my tweaks!)

:-)

You deserve
beauty and peace today,
whatever that looks like
for you.
A long walk,
a quiet moment to yourself,
curled up with a good book,
a sandy beach,
a quiet wooded moment,
singing along at the top of your lungs
to your favorite song
and dancing 'out loud' too.
Whatever!
Whatever makes your heart smile,
your soul soar,
your space your own.
Maintaining your joy
is not only important,
it is necessary.

To Feel

This one just kinda came at me this morning.
Not sure why. It isn't exactly brand new,
but it jumped off the page and said ... "share me".
And so ...

To Feel
by Lyn Marinello

We've become a nation full of bigotry and whining
Stomping our collective feet if something seems a bit confining
Cells and social media make our plights immediate
Whether grounded in 'factuality' or things we could obviate
In our plea to have a voice, we've lost the efficacy of such
We're quick to spit into the wind as we come unglued and out of touch
If we'd only take a moment to hear a story in its whole
To educate our entire self we'd spare the time said calamity stole
But it's instilled within us to react instead of to respond
To keep our wits about us as opposed to what headlines might abscond
We're conditioned to hop on board of each passing wagon with its band
Send a meme, sign a petition, write hopes inexorably in the sand
For if we sway with every breeze, no matters its breadth or stench,
We cannot lend a helping hand with our fists so tightly clenched
We want the world to change to meet our every whim
We don't think past tomorrow, which is looking ever grim
We rebel against a solution because it doesn't fit our aim
We expect inclusion ~ as long as everyone's the same
Not just the folks you like, who think the things you do
The world would just be tedious if everyone was like you.

So ...

Let's take a little breather; a pause in which to reflect
Not to point a finger or to fight and interject,
But a serious bit of time where we might look up from our screens
See the actual being in front of us and how we can helpfully intervene
We will never move ahead if we just run on the hamster wheel
We must make amends to communicate; to talk, to love, to feel.

Home

Found this and,
of course,
embellished ...

Our homes are not
containers for stuff,
but rather a place
for joy and connection.
Our homes are not
about the room count,
but rather about
the laughter that occurs
within each room that counts.
Our homes are not
about the magnitude,
but rather a place
for gathering and gratitude.

Let's make room for more of that.

People

This really grabbed me this morning.
Though it might make an impact elsewhere, too.

People,
even more than things,
have to be restored,
renewed, revived, reclaimed,
and redeemed.
Never throw anyone out.

It is just so simply powerful.

Happy

I did not write this.
Kinda wish I had, but ...
I most assuredly will share.

Rivers do not drink their own water;
trees do not eat their own fruit;
the sun does not shine on itself
and flowers do not smell for themselves.
Living for others is a rule of nature.
We are all born to help each other ...
No matter how difficult it is ...
Life is good when you are happy;
but infinitely better when others are happy
because of you.

Write

As a poet,
and a writer,
this made me laugh ...
and is very true!

You own everything
that happened to you.
Tell your stories.
If people wanted you
to write warmly about them,
they should have
behaved better.

Scraps

This beautiful quote by Umberto Eco
just speaks absolute volumes.

I believe
that what we become
depends on what our fathers teach us
at odd moments,
when they aren't trying to teach us.
We are formed
by little scraps of wisdom.

To my fourfathers,
my husband,
each of my brothers,
my son-in-law,
and my furfather son,
Happy Happy Father's Day!

Thank you
for your scraps.

Purpose

And this ... THIS ...
is just scrumptious!

The smile
of a child
is the purpose
of a father.
