Happy New Year!

Have a safe and spectacular New Year's Eve!
Enjoy Every Second and Dream of What Will Be!

Emily Dickinson put it best:

We turn not older with years,
but newer every day!

That's some good stuff to kiss the old one goodbye,
and open your arms to a new one!

Can I be Frank?

A beautiful reminder from Anne Frank:

How wonderful it is
that nobody need wait
a single moment
before starting
to improve the world.

You're welcome!

Ends and Beginnings

As one year comes to an end,
and as we usher in a new one,
it is a time of resolutions.
A clean slate, if you will,
to reinvent, reinvigorate,
or reimagine yourself.
A fresh page to write
the story that you'd like.
An opportunity
to find little positives
in every day.
Don't be so hard on yourself.
We all stumble.
We all make mistakes.
And when we fall ...
we rise again.
And as one year ends ...
a new one starts.
And so it is with you.

Practice

It takes time
and much practice
to learn to tune out
the loud opinions around you
and listen to
the quiet beating
of your own heart.

Merry Christmas

Linus, man! Linus!

And there were in the same country
shepherds abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them,
and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them,

Fear not
for behold, I bring you
good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day
in the city of David, a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you.
Ye shall find the baby
wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying,

Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.

And though this came from so much more,
it is a warm and comforting memory
to simply think back to this beautiful scene
and smile.

Hope

So a dear, old friend, who recently lost a sibling,
shared a post she'd written years ago and
there were a few words that immediately caught my attention.
They were weighing on me ever since, until I had a moment,
and then ...

Hope
by Lyn Marinello

The Christmas lights are twinkling
but I'm struggling to cope
Adrift in a sea of festive faces
I seem to have misplaced my hope
The carolers are singing
I trudge along mired in mope
I cannot shake the worldly weight
I've truly disconnected from my hope
The skaters jump and twirl
The sledders race down every slope
And in the midst of this jubilance
I simply cannot find my hope
Off to church I went
my pant knees all thread bare
Head bowed, hands folded tightly
I was fervently in prayer
Jeremiah 29:11
His plans He did declare
I felt the tiniest of sparks
and continued in my prayer
Within the book of Romans
Instead of searching for what's fair
We rejoice within our sufferings
and are thankful in our prayer
All at once its brilliance came to me
Christ's unwavering love in full kaleidoscope
Seek not joy in tangible things
But in Jesus' Christmas gift of hope

I sure hope that the friend who inspired this,
not only sees it,
but understands I tried my best to capture your message.
Love you

Angel wings

There is kindness out there ...
eeking its way into hearts and lives
that never knew it existed or
perhaps thought it cold and dead.
When touched by
that warm hand of generosity,
be gracious and joyous,
for you have been blessed
by the tips of Angel wings
directed by the hand of God.

When searching my teeny brain
and thankful heart for something potent today,
this is what fell out of my fingers.

I am thankful for those Angel wings ...

The lesson

Joseph Campbell penned this beauty.
It couldn't be more true.
It is, however, a tediously difficult lesson to master.

When the heart speaks,
take good notes.

Whispers

I did not write this,
but I sure do love it
and absolutely believe it.

Whisper of Angels Wings

Today I stumbled and once again
was lifted up by an unseen hand.
What comfort & joy that knowledge brings
for I hear the Whisper of Angels Wings.
The Guardian Angels God sends to all
to bear us up when we stumble & fall.
Trust Him, my friend, and often you'll hear
the Whisper of Angels Wings hovering near.

Mountains

Two of my most favorite quotes ~
one is by Confucius; the other I am unaware.

We are given mountains
to show others they can be moved.
The man who moves a mountain
begins by carrying away small stones.

Whatever mountain you're facing,
there are lessons to be learned and shared
and just take one step at a time.

You got this!

Make up your mind

 " ... it's been my experience

that you can nearly always enjoy things

if you make up your mind firmly

that you will."

~ Anne of Green Gables

Thursday, December 15, 2022

YOU!

I did not write this ...
but I write this every day!

You may think that
you are completely insignificant
in this world.
But someone drinks coffee
from the favorite cup you gave them.
Someone heard a song on the radio
that reminded them of you.
Someone bought the book you recommended
and plunged headfirst into it.
Someone smiled after a hard day's work
because they remembered a joke that you told.
Someone loves themselves a little bit more
because of a compliment you gave them.
Never think that
you have no influence whatsoever.
Your touch, word, and good deeds
that you leave behind
cannot be erased.

Leading

I have written about this before.
I truly believe this.
I've been the president
and I've been the worker bee
and every dadgum thing in between.
I've read leadership books.
I am married
to an extraordinary leader
for like a gazillion years.
This is a lesson,
learned by too few,
and not practiced nearly enough.

To lead people,
walk behind them.

Strength

I am abusing a quote I found and, of course, embellishing.
It's not plagiarism if you make it better. LOL!

There is nothing stronger
than a broken soul
that has rebuilt itself.
There is strength
in the pieces.
There is beauty
in the mosaic
that comes
from tenacity.

Head and Hands

It would seem as though
I am in a little bit of a funk.
It kind of just fell on me yesterday.
I saw this and thought it might help me
and maybe someone else as well.

The past
is in your head.
The future
is in your hands.

Much love, friends.

Why vs What

I've long loved this little snippet.
Still trying to practice it.
It is a difficult lesson to grasp.
If you are grappling,
know that you are not alone
and there is something to learn.

When you replace,
"Why is this happening to me?"
with
"What is this trying to teach me?"
everything shifts.

Quiet

By Miss Angela Weiland-Crosby ...
and thank you for this ...

Everyone needs
a place to retreat;
a spot where the world
grows quiet enough
for the soul to speak.

Nothing

A little friendly reminder for your Thursday ...

There is nothing
in this world
that can trouble you
as much as
your own thoughts.

Get out of your head ~
and into your heart.

Gifts

It is a joyous moment when you are given a gift.
At least it should be.
I've been at homes where the piles were just moved in front of a person
who randomly and thoughtlessly ripped each package open
and moved on to the next one.
That's not for me.
When I receive a gift, I am deeply moved.
That someone took a moment, thought about me,
spent money and/or time to give me a piece of their heart ...
that is gifting.
The store name, price tag, and technology means nothing.
I am overwhelmed by their kindness and selflessness.

Now ...

To be the giver of those ...
you are gifted twice.
To have lifted someone's spirits,
lifts your own as well.

Enjoy the holiday season.
Be the gift that someone needs.
Share your heart and time.

Kindness

It is true that kindness
seems to have stepped back into the shadows
as of late.

But, if not you ... who?

Who will resurrect that small, brief act
that can turn, not just a moment,
but an entire life around?
Who will speak a gentle word?
Who will offer unrewarded assistance?
Who will give selflessly?
Who will reach out - as an offer -
not in expectation?

Kindness is not lost.
It is hiding ... in plain sight.
Dust it off.
Bring it out.
Share it eagerly.
Gift it freely.

It is in the gracious moment
of kindness
that we can truly change the world.

Cracked

We all have flaws.
We all have issues.
We all have challenges.
We all are cracked.
Do not let those
tiny imperfections
defeat you.
It is in that uniqueness,
that quirkiness,
the beauty that is you,
that there is hope.
Those very cracks
that you despise
or fret over
are what let the light in ...
and allow your light out.

Where is your key?

This is written in the 'she',
but can be exchanged
with whatever pronoun makes you happy!

One morning, she woke up different.
Done with trying to figure out
who was with her, against her,
or wandering in the middle
because they didn't have the guts to choose.
She was done with things
that did not bring her peace.
She realized that
opinions were a dime a dozen,
validation was for parking,
and loyalty was more than a word ~
it was a lifestyle.
It was this day that her life changed.
It was this day that she realized
that life is way too short
to leave the key to your happiness
in someone else's pocket.

And yes, of course,
I tweaked it and made it my own
...
because I hold my key.

Enjoy your day!

National Mutt Day

I penned this a few years ago.
It still, very much, holds true.

Rescue
by Lyn Marinello

The quiet in the house
was deafeningly sad
The lack of wagging tails
was driving me quite mad
The loneliness at home
without the wiggly greet
Was only matched in depth
by the cold of uncovered feet
And so we took a ride
to the shelter down the road
And found a furry little friend
to brighten up our abode
He quickly stole our hearts
and a stuffed animal or two
But, honestly, I'm just not sure
who exactly rescued who

Art

Here's a mash-up of two very powerful points.
I hope whoever needs to see this, does.

Your art (in whatever medium)
is not about how many people
like your work.
Your art is about
if your heart likes your work,
if your soul likes your work.
It's about how honest you are
with yourself
and you must never trade
honesty for relatability.
Behind every strong person
is a story
that gave them no choice.
Tell your story
in your art.

The Storm

Seems appropriate for this morning's weather:

And once the storm is over,
you won't remember
how you made it through,
how you managed to survive.
You won't even be sure
whether the storm is really over.
But one thing is certain ...
when you come out of the storm,
you won't be the same person
who walked in.
That's what the storm
is all about.
~ Haruku Murakami

This too shall pass.

What a gift ...

We were blessed with a beautiful granddaughter
about a year and a half ago.
Although it is so difficult to have her so far away,
she just brings joy and sass to every day she touches.
She's an absolute treasure
and an incredible blessing to the family.
I had always heard about what a grandbaby can do
to your heart and your soul and your life.
It's all true ... and it's amazing.

But ...

What no one tells you,
is that the icing on top,
the almost more precious gift
than that wee, tiny human,
is the giddiness;
the complete love and awe;
the sheer elation
that it brings out in your own kids.
To see and hear and bear witness
to THAT kind of love ...

is an absolutely beautiful gift.

Thankful

Have always loved this thought process:

Be thankful
for closed doors,
detours,
and roadblocks.
They protect you
from paths and places
not meant
for you.

No author given,
but dang ... that's some good stuff!

A great lesson

I may have posted this previously,
but it's because I really, really like it;
and perhaps ...
some folks need to be reminded.

The world
is changed
by your example,
not
by your opinion.

~ Paulo Coelho

Truth!

Not just for Black Friday,
but for always.
Every. Single. Day.

Do not get upset
with people or situations.
Both are powerless
without your reaction.

So, so many times
I have opened my mouth
in reaction
and then immediately shut it,
thought carefully,
focused,
and then responded.

The Weaving

What you leave behind
is not what is engraved
in stone monuments;
but what is woven
into the lives of others.
~ Pericles

Be thankful for the weaving
that has taken place prior to you,
and be sure to continue
a beautiful masterpiece
in the hearts and souls of
those around you.
What you weave
is up to you.

A favorite

One of my most favorite of messages:

When you are hanging on
by a thread,
make sure it is
the hem
of His garment.

by Angels

Doing my 'thang'
what with stealing
and embellishing ...

In the space between
our struggles and our stumbles
we are supported by angels.
In the space between
our prayers and our triumphs
we are cheered by angels.
In the space between
hope and happening
we are met by angels.
In the space between
our dreams and being awake
we are kissed by angels.

Thankful for the week ahead

I'll just be dousing you
with little quotes this week,
to help you realize
all there is
to be thankful for.

Gratitude
is the fairest blossom
that springs forth
from the soul.

Human

So ...
yesterday I had myself a teeny, tiny pity party.
I ranted about an event
(or nonevent)
that made me very angry.
I received a few comments that folks
were surprised by my venting.
Let me share something.
I jump on here each morning
in the sincere attempt
to not only start your day off well,
but to do so for myself as well.

A positive thought in the morning ...

I make it a point to be available to those who need to
rant, rave, cry, scream, chat or just need company.
Sometimes,
I need that as well.
I am just a mere little human being.
I am moved by sadness,
angered by injustice,
and awed by grace and blessings.
I choose to face each day with a positive attitude
and do my best to help you do the same.
There are times when we have a week full of Mondays ...
but that just means we get several opportunities
to begin again ...
no matter how frustrating.
We are all just walking each other home.
Let us be cognizant of one another ~
in any and every mental state.

Assignments

Saw a little something that I had kept
and felt like it needed to be thrown out there.

Whoever needs to see this ...
here ya go.

You've been assigned this mountain
to show others it can be moved.

You may be exhausted.
You may feel you cannot continue.
You may feel overwhelmed.

Take a deep, deep breath.
Do not look at the height
of the problem before you.
Focus on that first step ...
and then the next one ...
and then the next one.

You are someone's inspiration.

Some sweet embellishment

The original part of this is from Anne of Green Gables.
Of course, without regret,
I mangled it and made it mine ...

It has been my experience,
overtly and repeatedly,
that you can
nearly always enjoy things
if, in fact,
you make up your mind
to do exactly that.

That choice is always ...
ALWAYS ...
yours.

Listening

November contains some form of national listening day or week
or something along those lines.
Let us zoom in on a few things ...

We have two ears and only one mouth.
Twice as important to listen as it is to respond.

Sometimes listening is the only thing
needed to help someone.

Listening to those that have come before us
opens up doors and lessons we could never have fathomed.

Listening to children ~
even if it's gibberish ~
is a beautiful and necessary form of attention.

Listening to each other,
without forethought or bias, is difficult but vital.

Ponder the Pieces

So I was reading a post this morning.
It was a poignant little conversation with God piece.
It is rather lengthy and very engrossing,
but one portion that truly jumped out at me
went a little something like this ...

Me: God, I'm falling apart. Will you put me back together?
God: I would rather not.
Me: Why?
God: You are not a puzzle.
Me: What about all the pieces of my life that are falling to the ground?
God: Let them stay there for a bit. They fell off for a reason.
Take some time and decide if you need any of those pieces back.
Me: You don't understand, I'm breaking down.
God: No, you're breaking through.

If you're going through a rough time,
please stop and take a moment.
Ponder the pieces.
Figure out if you're breaking down or breaking through.

I'll be here for you.

What Counts

Thank you, Jim, Jamie, Dan, Bill and Victor - for making this happen
and inspiring this.
Thank you, Kelly, for the notebook that captured much of this.

What Counts
by Lyn Marinello

Perched amidst the tree tops with a view of layered mounts
In the company of loved ones ... that's really all that counts
In the beauty of the leaves of vivid orange, gold and red
We learn that change and even loss is nothing we should dread
Those angelic wispy clouds float across blue topaz skies
On the breeze that force those leave to imminent autumnal demise
Half-a-dozen bambies play a game of hide and seek
As we simply sit in wonder, blessed to merely have a peek
Mr. Groundhog roams the front yard as the birds chirp endlessly
An early bat take to the sky in flight haphazardly
Evening repast is enjoyed with those across, adjacent
And an air of peace wafts through; comforting and complacent
The sun begins its ritual to rest from its daily chore
And offers us a kaleidoscope; a vista of color galore
The competition's on as we gather 'round the old pool table
A friendly game of billiards turns maniacally unstable
Laughter fills the twilight as we rack up for another break
The hot tub roils steamily ~ an open invite to partake
Pac Man chomps away. The fire pit flames spit toward the sky
Chatter fills the crisp night air as hours peacefully slip by
Perched amidst the tree tops with a view of layered mounts
In the company of loved ones ... that's really all that counts

Love

Do not know who to credit,
but ... as usual ...
I am 'making it my own'.

To LOVE a person
is to see all of their magic;
not their weight,
not their clothes,
not their choices,
not their religion,
not their color,
not their party;
and to remind them of it
when they have forgotten.
We are each given
a beautiful uniqueness
to share with this world.
Don't dim your light
for any reason.
You were born to shine.

LOVE each other
like that!

To Our Veterans

Thank You!

Mr. Davis voiced it well:

the Land of the Free
only so long
as it is
the Home of the Brave.

So take a deep breath,
pick yourself up,
dust yourself off
and start all over again.

Note to Self:

You are not too old
and
it is not too late.

Friendly Reminder

As we just recently adjusted our clocks,
let us also remember this:

Your spirit needs recharging
at least as often
as your phone or laptop.
Make the time to
re-focus, re-center, and reconnect
with yourself.

Be well. Be wonderful.
Be happy.

Wild

From Isadora Duncan ...

You were once wild.
Don't let them tame you.

This is for all those folks
who are trying to fit in,
playing the game,
pretending to be what they're not.

Why fit in,
when you were born to stand out?

Enjoy your day!

You Are

I grew up hearing, "You are what you eat."
and, for the most part, that is true.
Eat healthy, be healthy.
What I have since learned
is that it's not just
what you feed your body
that matters.
It's what you feed your brain;
what you feed your heart;
and what you feed your soul.
Feed them positive, healthy,
joyful meals.
Feed them hope and light.
Feed them kindness
and compassion ~
in all things
in all ways.
You Are
what you serve yourself.
Serve yourself well.

Circles

This just seems completely infinite
and surely makes you realize
how tiny we are,
yet integrally interwoven.

Stories
always go on.
They don't end
on the last page,
and more
than they begin
on the first page.

~ C Funke

When we feel like life has stopped,
perhaps its just a lengthy chapter,
a time to reflect and ponder,
and then ...
as we have no choice ...
we take another step and then another
and the circle of life
rolls on.

Life

Didn't write this.
Just sort of embellishing ...
like I do.

Everything we do
is infused
with the energy
with which we do it.
If we are frantic,
life will be frantic.
If we are hopeful,
life will be full of hope.
If we are joyful,
life will be full of joy.
If we are peaceful,
life will be peaceful.
Choose wisely and use
your positive energy.

Look

Stumbled across this little note
from Abraham Hicks
and just had to share.

To some,
it may seem oversimplified,
but ...
how has the opposite
been working for ya?

If all you did
was just look for things
to appreciate,
you would live
a joyous, spectacular life.

Kindness & Gratitude

Hey there, November!
What a beautiful month it is.
A month in which there are celebrations
of kindness, giving, listening and gratitude.
Two of my favorites are
kindness and gratitude.
Especially in these heated, divisive times,
focusing on kindness and gratitude
are incredibly important.
We are all human beings -
no matter your color, your ancestry,
your religion or your beliefs.
When we recognize one another
as anything less that another soul ~
worthy of acceptance, hope, patience,
kindness, assistance, and love ~
society fractures, voices are lost,
hearts are shattered and life itself is mocked.
Whenever there is an opportunity
to be kind ... please do so ...
and opportunity abounds.
And when you've been afforded
some random kindness ~
however small ~
be grateful,
and pay it forward
and perhaps we can start
a circle of wonderful things.

Eek!

Appropriate for Halloween,
I found this little gem:

Do one thing every day
that scares you!

~ Mary Schmich

Let It Be

Yes, please, sing the song while reading.

Sometimes,
it is better to just let things be,
let people go;
let arguments pass;
don't fight for closure;
don't ask for explanations;
don't expect acknowledgement;
don't chase answers;
don't expect people
to have your same heart,
to understand your journey,
to validate your efforts,
to apologize for their actions.
Let It Be.
Stand in the elusive knowledge
that you are worthy,
beautiful,
integral,
and loved.
Let It Be.

Wanna

I don't wanna fight.
I don't wanna argue.
I don't wanna accuse.
I don't wanna blame.
I don't wanna belittle.
I don't wanna hate.
I don't wanna spew.
I don't wanna demean.

I wanna live.
I wanna be.
I wanna thrive.
I wanna lift others.
I wanna give.
I wanna embrace.
I wanna thank.
I wanna listen.
I wanna converse.
I wanna create memories.
I wanna laugh.
I wanna love.

Miracle Worker

This was stated by one Marianne Williamson ~
or so the meme has told me.
Forgive me if it's credited to someone else,
but please just read it.
Let it seep in to your very soul.
If we all focused on this simple quote,
the world would be an extraordinary space.

The way of the miracle worker
is to see all human behavior
as one of two things:
either love,
or a call for love.

Have a Thankful Thursday.

Comfy

Hey kids! I'm back! Didjamissme? :-)

There is a peace in comfortability.
Relaxing into good, old habits.
Leaning into the warmth of love
and security and memories.
Finding a new place of resolve
and kindness and acceptance
and serenity.
Allowing a quiet calm
and joyous contentment
in the confines of my
very own lumpy skin.
Vistas add to the mix,
adventures add to the tales,
but there is absolutely nothing
that can replace
the communication made
with laughter and a hug.
Thankful for a little time away
to do all of the above.

Hope you find a moment soon
to do the same.

Friday, October 21, 2022

Re-

Regrouping.
Recentering.
Reconnecting.
Refocusing.
Relaxing.

Will be a few days away.
Please be kind to one another
and to yourself.
Life is too short
to behave any other way.

One of My Favs

This is just a little tidbit,
but it is one of my absolute favorites.

I hope that you become filled
with so much happiness
that it heals
every part of you.

It exists.
It can happen.
I pray this for you.

Something to Think About

by Rumi:

Out beyond ideas
of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down
in that grass,
the world is too full
to talk about.

I think I love this more
as election time approaches
once again ...

Self Love

I did not write this,
just kind of ...
made it my own.

;-)

Self love isn't always
chocolate cake and shopping sprees.
Sometimes,
it's meal planning,
it's working out,
it's going to bed early,
it's letting go of toxic people.
It is
forgiving yourself for not meeting
your own impossible standards,
for not attending every function,
for not answering every call,
for not filling every anticipated need
of other people.
It is
understanding your value,
your worth,
your importance,
your integral role
in the tapestry of life.
Self love
is not selfish
or a luxury
or extravagance.
It is a matter
of survival.

Feed it well

Your brain
will always believe
everything you tell it.

Feed it kindness.
Feed it faith.
Feed it love.
Feed it truth.
Feed it hope.

Feed it well.

It's All in the Approach

When do we lose that purpose
to be kind to one another?
When we teach children,
we start from a point of innocence,
a blank slate, a clean table,
with an enthusiasm to enable another human
to grow and become a little better,
a little stronger,
a little more capable.
In our whirlwind called society,
the expectation to 'keep up,'
'to know it all,'
to have already been exposed to all things
so new stuff should be easy
creates a demeaning and belittling atmosphere.
It not only defeats the purpose,
it destroys the learner.
I am guilty of this myself.
I think I was presented with this recently
to make me look inward.
I will try harder to be better;
to slow down, to breathe, to be kind
and to assist.
It's all in the approach.
How will you approach your next challenge?

A much kinder place

An oldie,
but a fantastic-ie!

I myself
am made
entirely of flaws,
stitched together
with good intentions.

When we humble ourselves
to realize
that this is true of all of us,
the world becomes
a much kinder place.

Just a few things ...

There are a great many times
that you will doubt yourself,
question your situation,
and ponder your direction.

I want you to remember
just a few things ...

1. Stop for a moment.
Breathe.
Remember how far
you've actually already come.

2. Stop for a moment.
Breathe.
Maybe change the
"Why is this happening to me?"
into
"What is this trying to teach me?"

3. Stop for a moment.
Breathe.
Not all storms come to disrupt your life.
Some come to clear a path.
If it doesn't open ... it's not your door.

Here

So while on a drive with hubby a few weekends ago,
in a little, obscure area ...
in a relatively unmarked graveyard ...
I happened to see a very sad sight.
Perhaps it struck me deeper because hubby just lost a dear friend.
But ...
I saw a person, wrapped in a shawl or blanket of some sort,
sitting in a simple folding chair beside a headstone.
The loneliness of it all just was very sad and also sobering.
Most of what follows came pouring out and
I initially typed it into my phone for safe keeping.
The rest came this morning so I thought I'd share.

Please let me know what you think ...

Here
by Lyn Marinello

Don't bury me in a cemetery
amongst emblazoned stone
I'd hate to have you visit me
and still be all alone
Don't show up dressed in black
Don't mourn, but celebrate
Don't send flowers that will wither
Share stories; commemorate
Spread some ashes in the water
so we can chat while you fish and swim
Spread a little in the mountains
on a wooded trail or rocky rim
Bring me to your favorite place
Scatter me there as well
Come converse about your woes
or simply sit with me a spell
Help me fertilize a flower bed
to bring the hope of butterflies
or the roots of a magnolia tree
where you can rest beneath its size
When my earthly transport falters
When it sputters, stops and stalls
Do not weep because I'm leaving
rejoice that I was even here at all

Gratefully Mine

I thank those
who are my Ch-Angels,
and that host is large.

I have seen
and met Angels
wearing the disguise
of ordinary people,
living ordinary lives.
What a gift!

Price

Although this quote hits me as sort of being negative,
I believe there is a positive to be gained from it.
There seems to be a lot of finger-pointing,
name-calling and division out there.
Please remember this from Eldridge Cleaver:

The price of hating
other human beings
is loving oneself
less.

Dang.
That's got some weight, eh?

You're Worth It

This is a dandy ...

Sometimes,
the hardest part
of the journey
is believing
you're worth
the trip!

A little F. Scott

Mr. Fitzgerald apparently penned this
most appropriate quip for National Smile Day.

It was only a sunny smile,
and little it cost in the giving,
but like morning light,
it scattered the night
and made the day worth living.

A simple smile
can do extraordinary things.
It is kindness
and caring
and hope
and love
in a single, solitary gesture.

Get out there
and share those pearly whites!

Learning

Found this little number
and absolutely loved it.
Hope it reaches all the folks
who might need to see it.

I am learning
to love the sound
of my feet
walking away
from things
not meant
for me.

Yousedto

This was one of the word jumbles that attacked me while driving
on our adventure this past Sunday.
The rest of it came in small pieces, but I think it turned out well.
This is obviously written about my Momma,
but I'm fairly certain it could be anyone's momma, or father,
or husband or wife or sibling or person that they've lost.
I hope you find solace in this that you are not alone.
Please enjoy and comment if you'd like.

Yousedto
by Lyn Marinello

You used to dry my tears
You used to hug away the ache
You used to listen to me vent
You used to calm me when I'd shake
You used to cheer my grand ideas
You used to let me share my woes
You used to challenge me at Scrabble
You used to keep me on my toes
You used to answer every call
You used to offer sage advice
You used to be nice to everyone
Until it was time to not be nice
You used to be a fixture
A part of every single day
You used to be a presence
Then you quietly slipped away
My life is infinitely better
Though now occasionally tossed askew
By the hollow place that was once filled
With all the things you used to do

Tuesday, October 4, 2022

It starts with you ...

Bring love
wherever you go.
Shine light
wherever it's dark.
Leave blessings
wherever you've been.
Be kind
wherever you are.
Be love
wherever it's needed.

The good stuff inside

I am not aware of a single soul
that doesn't enjoy a good compliment.
"Great smile!"
"You look wonderful today!"
"Beautiful eyes!"
"Your hair is amazing!"

All wonderful, unexpected treats
that can truly change a day for someone,
but if you think that can brighten a mood ...
try one of these ...
"I am so proud of you!"
"I am so glad you're here!"
"Don't know what I'd do without you!"
"You really make the day better!"
"So glad you're sharing your ideas!"
"This place works so much smoother with you!"
"You're so thoughtful and kind!"
"You are so vital and important!"
"I'd be lost without you!"
"Thank you for being here and being you!"

It is nice to hear how nice we look,
but on occasion,
it is truly inspiring to hear about
the good stuff inside.

Love One Another

Today is National Love People Day!

Sing Along ...

C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command

C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now
Right now...

Ch-Angels!

No quotes today.
No cute stories.
No little quips.
This is me.
Acknowledging my Ch-Angels!
Those folks who are
consistent,
faithful,
uplifting,
selfless,
enveloping,
enlightening,
hopeful,
prayerful,
positive,
beautiful souls.
Those folks who are
kind,
generous,
gracious,
blissful,
blessings to others.
The world needs more of you.
I thank you for being in my world.

A little Nelson for ya

I adore this quote by Nelson Mandela.
Such direct and powerful truth.

Our world is not divided
by race, color, gender or religion.
It is divided
into wise people and fools.
And fools divide themselves
by race, color, gender or religion.

E before I

This little quip has been around for a bit,
but I thought I'd share for anyone
who might need to see it again.

You either get bitter
or you get better.

You either take what has been dealt to you
and allow it to make you a better person,
or you allow it to tear you down.

The choice does not
belong to fate;
it belongs to you.

Technically Speaking

Saw the cutest shirt that truly defines
the way I try to live my life.

It was a photo of a glass.
Beside it, two arrows;
one denoted water,
one denoted air.
The quote said:

Technically,
your glass is always full.

It is entirely
how you choose to see
what is in front of you.
Choose wisely, friends.

Lean

Was doing a little reading
from a book gifted to me by my kids.
Found this nugget
and it really touched me.
Perhaps it will find someone else
that needs it, too.

When you walk a lonely path,
lean into and breathe deeply
of the presence of your Good Shepherd,
who is with you each step of the way
to bless you with His comfort and peace.

Be Someone

Found this quote
and it not the usual.
Sometimes,
just a few altered words
makes all the difference
in the world.

Be Someone
who makes
someone else
look forward
to tomorrow.

Time

Take time
to slow down;
to step out;
to see the beauty
in the small and simple things.
Notice
colors and smells
and smiles and laughter.
Embrace
windchimes in the distance;
the rhythm of raindrops;
hope in a smile;
and one another.
Time
is a gift
far too often
frittered away
toiling toward nothing
of real import.

A little food for thought

Absolutely ate up
this little quote that I found:

Failure
is the condiment
that gives success
its flavor.

Another Man

Another Man
by Lyn Marinello

Do not condemn my actions
Til you've stood within my shoes
Til your vision's through my hazel eyes
You shouldn't judge my views
My past has brought the words I speak
You cannot claim them wrong
My heart beats out a happy tune
You just can't deny its song
My ears have heard some drastic cries
You should not dismiss their pains
My tongue has choked on bitter words
Vocal chords have ached and strained
My hands have labored dutifully
Don't misinterpret their lack of wear
My arms may not be muscled much
But don't discount their strength of care
As you sit beside a stranger
Please do not rush to judge
You've no idea from where they've come
Nor through what troubles they did trudge
Accept with open, loving arms
Receive with a helping hand
Don't lead or follow, but walk beside
For, simply, he is just another man.

Don't

Don't
let
the ugly,
the hurtful,
the spiteful,
the angry,
the bitter,
the selfish,
the liar,
the pity
of others
dull
the
beauty,
helpful,
thoughtful,
happy,
contentment,
generosity,
honest,
hopeful
in you.
Be your own
beautiful self.

Walt Wisdom

Walt Whitman once said:

It is a beautiful truth
that all men
contain something
of the artist in them.

It was also said
(and not exactly)
...

The world needs more artists;
we've got enough critics!

Wise Shepard

This quote is from Margaret Shepard
and is ... just wow!

Sometimes,
your only available transportation
is a leap of faith.

Fantabulous!

Talking to Yourself

I'm pretty sure
that everyone talks to themselves ...
or maybe it's just me.

Sometimes,
I just need expert advise.

Sometimes,
I'm asking myself
for guidance.

Sometimes,
I need to remind myself
what's important.

Sometimes,
I need to scold myself
for taking the easy path.

Sometimes,
I need to praise myself,
for sticking to what I know
is my moral true north.

No matter what you're saying,
be careful ...
you're listening.

You Never Know

Quite simply
and very profoundly,
keep going.

You never know
where
the next miracle
is going
to come from.

You

Bring out today
the you of younger years,
the one without fears
or hesitations.
The one who splashes
in the puddles,
sings full on to the radio,
dances in the grocery store,
plays with toys in the kids section.
The one who speaks
without fear of which feeling
of which soul might possibly
be saddened or angered -
because that was never your intent.
Pray in the restaurant.
Laugh out loud.
Compliment strangers ...
in fact engage them in conversation.
That you,
of younger years,
is in there ~
waiting to shine and beam
and bring that happy soul
back out into the world.
This world needs you.

Art

This quote that I found
did not provide an author,
but it is powerful
and beautiful.

I make art
to show my soul
that I
am listening.

Go ...
make art ...
in whatever form
or platform
moves you.

A favorite

I am saddened by the loss
and the absence of a great many people.
This always gets me through ...

Be the things
you loved most
about the people
who are gone.

Maya in the Morning

A little weekend workshop for ya:

If you must look back,
do so forgivingly.
If you must look forward,
do so prayerfully.
However,
the wisest thing you can do
is be present in the present ...
gratefully.

Could Have

You could have grown cold
but you grew courageous instead.
You could have given up
but you kept on going.
You could have seen obstacles
but you called them adventures.
You could have doubted yourself
but you kept trusting your knowing.
You could have called them weeds
but instead called them wildflowers.
You could have died a caterpillar
but fought on to be a butterfly.
You could have denied yourself goodness
but chose to show yourself self-love.
You could have defined yourself
by your dark days,
but instead, through them,
you realized your light.
~S.C. Lourie

I love when I find things
that parallel my thoughts
and life.

Signs

As I age, and different things
move into the import frame of life,
I am embracing the signs I am given.
Some, in fact, are literal signs;
not of actual directions,
but for instance,
when I'm distraught and
come upon Hope Drive.
I just smile.

There are other signs ...
like pennies and feathers and words
and phrases and songs and smells ...
that stop me dead in my tracks
and let me know I'm not alone.
I just smile.

Then there are people signs.
Folks that are either screaming
'do not come over here and interact'
which usually lets me know there's
nothing there for Lyn.
Or other folks that compliment,
assist, offer a friendly greeting,
or just sit and listen when I need it.
Those people who freely hug,
comfortably chat, touch base,
reach out and check in.
Those are my people.
Those are my signs.
And I smile.

Happy

Saw this fantastic tidbit
and just had to share.

I truly believe this ...

Be happy,
and a reason
will come
along.

Love This!

Found this and fell in love.

You are not separate from the whole.
You are one
with the sun, the earth, the air.
You don't have a life.
You are life.

A little BB

Just in time for the college football season,
I finished reading Bobby Bowden's Called to Coach.
Whether you like FSU or hate FSU,
this book is exemplary.
To read the integrity this man carried with him
throughout decades of work, fatherhood and coaching,
is extraordinary.
To see the multitude of lives he touched,
generations of players and families,
and read about the athletes he associated with,
befriended, learned from and taught,
is just incredible.
He instilled such a sense of self,
of faith and fortitude,
into everyone he came in contact with.
If you'd like a little pick-you-up,
a good read,
and a light and happy heart ...
have at it.

A Better Me

Had a smidge of this written prior to vacation.
(The title and first line - LOL).
It was finished up one early morning -
with a quiet house full of folks I love the most.

A Better Me
by Lyn Marinello

Expectations run amok on my appearance and my job
How I should always far exceed the average John or Joe or Bob

Isolated by my mirror and the frame of societal hope
The box I'm supposed to fit in is terribly minute in scope

But those boxes now have morphed; not sure toward positivity
The whole world's like a living part of Escher's Relativity

Up is down and down is up; back & forth and forth & back
Good is bad and evil wins. This whole joint is out of whack

I may not agree with everything, but here's the good news, friends
The difference in our opinions needs exactly no amends

When I awake each morning, I greet the sky with gratitude
The chaos that surrounds me will not change my attitude

I'll do the things my Momma taught me: be honest, frank and kind
Pushed beyond my limits, I will always speak my mind

I'll lend a hand when able. Always give 100 percent
Stand with those that are struggling, guide them through their discontent

I will not be defined by tomorrow's bourgeoisie
I will simply try with all I am to be a better me

Gratitude

I did not write this,
but sure do believe it.

Gratitude unlocks
the fullness of life.
It turns what we have
into enough, and more.
It turns denial
into acceptance,
chaos to order,
confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal
into a feast,
a house
into a home,
a stranger
into a friend.

A simple reminder

Good Monday morning to you.
Welcome to a new week

Please remember this ...

Be calm.
Be joyful.
Be humble.
Be thankful.

Enjoy the day.

Circles

Today marks another circle made
'round the sun for me.
I celebrate my circle of friends.
I ponder on the circles I've travelled
and how each rotation finds me
a little more elevated ~
not in status or importance ~
but in understanding and acceptance.
I'm in awe of the mountains I've climbed,
the valleys I've viewed,
the words I've been blessed with,
and the people I've been gifted with;
and how they are all intertwined
and create the circle of life
that keeps me both jumping elated
and on my knees humbled.
Sometimes dizzy,
but always thankful
for my circles.

Going off-grid for this week.
Will write more next week.
Please let me know
if there's anything I can do for you,
any prayers I can pray for you,
any help I might offer.

The Best Answer

So the best answer to the age old question
is best expressed in a little
fabled conversation
between big panda and tiny dragon.

"Which is more important,"
asked Giant Panda,
"the journey or the destination?"

"The company,"
said tiny dragon.

Glow

We all have a light.
We shine.
We offer a path
for others to see,
to follow,
to find a way.
We ooze
an ambient warmth
that silently declares
safety and security.
We radiate
a welcoming haze
that feels like
love and hugs
and happiness.
Sometimes,
others dim our light.
It is tarnished
or muted.
Shake it off.
Clean it up.
YOU may be
the only spark,
the tiniest of flickers,
the smallest glint,
that someone else needs
to get through their day.
Get out there.
GLOW!

Observations

I find it terribly interesting
as I write these morning pick-you-ups ...

Some are just random thoughts.
Some are shared quotes.
Some are poetry that comes to me
from a much higher realm.
I share some as a direct interaction.
I share some because I see it
a thousand times and know it needs
to be shared.
I share some because I know
I need to read it,
so perhaps someone else does, too.

and ...
What truly provides motivation to continue,
beside the fact that I do this in honor of my Momma,
is the reactions.
For all the reasons mentioned above,
and many more;
whether there is agreement, disagreement,
conversation, or debate;
I am sparking communication
and THAT is a wonderful thing
and true success.

Mash Up

These two principals
have been like guardrails
throughout my life.

Tenacity and Gratitude

When I stay within them,
I feel productive
and positive
and purposeful.
And so, today,
I give you ........

Tenacitude!

Go enjoy your day

Be happy;
it drives people crazy.

and

The idea
is to die young ...
as late as possible.

Difference

Miss Jane Goodall,
namesake of my only grandchild,
spoke these wise, wise words.
Let them truly sink in,
not just wash over you.
Let them permeate your skin,
your heart, your soul;
and go do good.

What you do
makes a difference,
and
you have to decide
what kind of difference
you want to make.

Wow! This ...

Now this one is short,
but incredibly powerful ...

A lot of what
weighs you down
isn't yours
to carry.

Sons and Daughters

Today is National Sons and Daughters Day!
If y'all know me,
you'll know that I've got two of the best.
They are fierce, yet frivolous;
determined, yet ditzy;
tenacious, yet tactful;
serious, yet squishy;
erudite, yet adventurous;
loving and loving and loving some more!
I am more proud of who they
unravel themselves to be daily
than they will ever understand
and I find it hard to express
both the width and breadth of
all of the feels I have for them ...
me ...
the wordsmith.
It is a humbling honor
to have been given the opportunity
to mother such incredible humans.

Poems

I may have shared this before.
I have a few poet friends
who definitely would agree.
And I would urge them
to defy that paper
and write that stuff down.

There are poems
inside of you
that paper
cannot handle.

And for those of you
who aren't poets,
your stories are just
as important.

Roaming

Several quotes that touch my soul.
Origins vary ...

The mountains are my bones.
The rivers my veins.
The forests are my thoughts
and the stars are my dreams.
The ocean is my heart.
Its pounding is my pulse.
The songs of the earth
write the music of my soul.
I love places
that make you realize
how very tiny
you and your problems are.
I have a therapist;
her name is nature.
I like days
that are filled
with space to breathe.

Hoping that at least some of this
may have relaxed you and filled you
with peace.

Opposites Attract

Some of this fell out of me old noggin in one fell swoop.
The rest was a little bunched up and scrambled.
So thrilled that it finally unraveled itself and came to life.
Please let me know whatcha think.

Opposites Attract
by Lyn Marinello

Comfort and Calamity were sitting in the park
waiting on a picnic with their friends Bright and Dark.
Watching the activity in this setting so serene
children run off wildly as the parents all convene.
A cloudless sunny day, holds a tiny chance of rain.
A chance for the extraordinary though it all seems so mundane.
The friends emerge upon a path with their pals Yin and Yang;
A collective smile joins them followed by the usual harangue.
Lunch is light and flavorful though the chatter's thick and bland.
Old friends meet anew each time, firmly hug as they disband.
There are errands to be run, as they walk in all directions;
glad to have made new memories as they relished in reflections.
As the sun begins to set and the evening starts to stir,
it's clear what things are cherished, though the dates and times may blur.
Quiet time recharges. Chaos drains us dry.
We march in mad defiance and then retreat as we comply.
The back and forth, the to and fro, the depth of death and birth;
The ebb and flow, the push and pull, without one the other has no worth.
As we pour so much into life itself, we grasp at all we can extract.
For life to have a purpose, we must embrace that opposites attract.

Worth Repeating

I'm fairly certain
that I have posted all or part of this prior.
It is absolutely worth repeating:

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect
of the intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation
of honest critics
and endure the betrayal
of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the beauty in others;
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;
to know that one life has breathed easier
because you lived here.
This is to have succeeded.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I choose

I did not write this.
I surely wish I had.
It is wonderful!
(But, of course,
I had to embellish ~
just a smidge!)

I choose ...
to live by choice,
not by chance;
to make changes,
not excuses;
to be motivated,
not manipulated;
to be useful,
not used;
to excel,
not compete;
to choose self-esteem,
not self pity;
to listen to my inner voice,
not the random opinions of others.
I choose ...
to be my amazingly unique
and incredible self ~
offering my talents and gifts,
love and light,
trials and victories,
that my story might be
of some comfort
and safe passage
for someone else.

The Key to Happiness

The key to happiness
is not a place,
it's not a job,
it's not a person.
It is within you.
It is an attitude.
It is an effort.
It is a perspective.
You are in charge of it.
Never put
your key to happiness
in
someone else's pocket.

Words

You never know
how long
your words will stay
in someone's heart
and mind,
even long after
you forgot
you spoke them.
So be kind,
say nice things,
lift others up,
offer compliments,
be positive.

Last week,
while cashiering,
a young gentleman
finished his purchase,
put his change away,
looked me straight on
and said,
"You have the most
beautiful eyes
I've ever seen."
And walked away.
I was completely overwhelmed.
A simple sentence,
left a very lasting impression.

Go leave yours.

When you can't

When you can't find the sunshine;
be the sunshine.
When you can't find a rainbow;
be a rainbow.
When you can't see the light;
be the light.
When you can't get a hug;
give a hug.

When you can't find the positive;
be the positive.
When you can't see the good;
be the good.
When you can't find the joy;
be the joy.
When you can't find a smile;
give a smile.

When you can't find the love;
be the love!

Hope It Helps!

So, I kind of took a few things,
cut them, mashed them, and made this mine.
To whomever I borrowed them from,
thank you for sharing.
To whomever needs to see this,
I hope it helps!

Even though it seems pointedly personal,
it is a rarity that people do means things
because of you.
It is directly related to their own
issues and insecurities.
It is in their own pain
that they attempt to pass it on.
You cannot control
what others say and do to you,
but you can certainly decide
not to be reduced by it.

Ten Tiny Words

Now this here quote
is truly powerful.
It speaks volumes
in its ten tiny words.

Your pain
is understandable,
doesn't mean
your behavior
is acceptable.

I

Was about to sit and write about something entirely different,
and was gifted with this.
Sometimes, prose on the fly is at its greatest strength. Enjoy!

I
by Lyn Marinello

I matter.
I'm worthy.
I belong here.
My voice
and opinion
should be shared without fear.
My life
and my purpose
are not meant for your label.
My tears
and my anger
do not denote I'm unstable.
I'm strong
and resilient
yet incredibly tired.
I seek faith
and soul sisters
to keep me inspired.
I'm tall
and I'm short.
I am all sizes and shapes.
I am wit.
I am brawn.
Always battling gapes.
I'm a mess
Though I'm not
Can it be any more clear?
I matter.
I'm worthy.
I belong here.

Awaken

Stolen, embellished, fluffed
and shared ...

Awake each morning
with the desire
to do the right thing,
to be a good and meaningful person,
to be humble and share,
to be fierce and protect,
to be uplifting,
to be loving,
to be happy,
to be kind.
Awaken and be emboldened
to change your world
by simply being you.

Beat the Clock

Beat the Clock
by Lyn Marinello

I have to squint, my hair is grey
Can't always remember why I've come this way
My knees make noise, I've gained a few pounds
My shoulders make some interesting sounds
I say "Pardon?" a lot to hear things twice
There might be cake for lunch, but just a small slice
I've earned a few wrinkles, bought bigger clothes
Am careful to refrain from voicing my woes
Unexplained bruises and occasionally aches
Tropical moments and cold, frigid shakes
It seems that I frequent the bathroom a lot
I'm comfy with me more than who I am not
My sleep is elusive, if much, really, at all
At least I can still get up if I fall
Arising from bed is a goal for which I strive
The pains that I wake to, let me know I'm alive
I no longer run like the wind, or party all night
I take a nap when I'm tired and that is alright
My joints are stiff, but I am still living
Not trying to beat the clock, but savor every minute given.

Hugs

I have written on hugs several times.
There are few things better
than a sturdy, enveloping grasp
of love and warmth and kindness
and security and safety and goodness.
If you're a Smeagol-ly, butt out
barely touching, afraid of contact hugger ...
you need help!
The world tried to take away touch
and hugging ... for over two years.
Contact is communication.
Hugging is love.
I, for one, will NEVER not hug you
if you're in need of one;
and I will do my very best
to squish all the hurt out of you,
mash the broken pieces back together,
and transfer all the love I can into that moment.
Get out there, folks!
Hug away!!!
The world needs it.
We all need it.
I need it.
Here if ya want one ...

Monday Morning Double Dose

Saw these and felt compelled to share.
Learning that we have within u
the power and ability to seize control
of our own selves
is a tremendous lesson to learn.

If you don't like something,
just take away it's only power ...

your attention.

and

A lot
of what weighs you down
isn't yours to carry.

Focus on those two things for just a sec.

You Own The Place

Saw a little post the other day
that I saved because it spoke to me.
I know and love some folks
that are 'facing challenging times'.
That truly is an understatement.
It is one hit after another
and these folks continue to show up
and spread love and kindness
in spite of what they are facing.
And who is to say
that what you find a molehill
isn't someone else's mountain?
We are all fighting battles
others know nothing about.

So ...

If your path demands
that you go through hell,
walk as though
you own the place.

Good People

I am truly blessed to be surrounded
by some extraordinary people.
Found this little gem
and gave it my own little tweak.

What else would you expect?

Good People
Good people help you find
the important things
you may have lost ...
like ...
your smile
your confidence
your joy
your hope
your faith
your courage
your worth.

Find yourself
some Good People.

Hide Within The Light

When I heard similar words in a recent show
as the title of this poem ... something tugged at me.
I knew I'd be called to write sooner than later.
Enjoy ...

Hide Within The Light
by Lyn Marinello

When the chaos of the world
And the weight of big decisions
Lays heavy on your heart
Or feels like salt within incisions
When the voices in your ear
Are a constant, droning screaming
And the worries of the day
Disrupt you as you're dreaming
When the box upon the wall
Or the screen within your hand
Spew constant contradictions
Of things you do not understand
When the anger of your neighbors
And the anguish of your friends
Seem to have no boundaries
Just discontentment without ends
When the tragedies of life
Seem to grip your very core
And you're absolutely certain
You can't handle one thing more
That's the precise moment
From down upon your knees
That you ask the Lord for guidance
And know He'll hear your pleas
Thank Him for your blessings
And for victories already won
Ask Him for forgiveness
For the wrongs that you have done
Seek solace 'neath the wings
Of the Angels by His side
Immerse yourself within His word
In His commandments do abide
And once you've prayed for providence
From all this earthly plight
Feel confident to face your fears
And hide within the light.

Life

There was no author to credit, but ...
boy howdy would I like to.
This is good and simple stuff here:

You give life
to what
you give
energy to.

Sunshine

There are a great many times
that I will call someone "Sunshine".
It is not simply a term of endearment.
It is chosen,
specifically with you in mind,
because you emit a brilliance,
because you envelope me in a warmth,
because you shine!
So ...
if I happen to call you "Sunshine,"
take it as a beautiful compliment,
and with sincere appreciation.

Enjoy your day, Sunshine!
Shine on!

Wild

What a great little quote for a Monday.
Isadora Duncan nailed this one:

You were wild once.
Don't let them
tame you.

If we woke up every Monday
(and every day)
with this mindset ...
imagine what we could accomplish.

Gifted

And sometimes,
we are gifted,
with a kind word
from a stranger;
a selfless deed
from folks unknown;
an effort unprovoked
by someone special;
a smile or a hug
when needed most.
Bask in the depth
of that benevolence.
Carry it forward
and place it
at the feet
of someone else
who may be in need.

To Feel

To Feel
by Lyn Marinello

We've become a nation full of bigotry and whining
Stomping our collective feet if something seems a bit confining
Cells and social media make our plights immediate
Whether grounded in 'factuality' or things we could obviate
In our plea to have a voice, we've lost the efficacy of such
We're quick to spit into the wind as we come unglued and out of touch
If we'd only take a moment to hear a story in its whole
To educate our entire self we'd spare the time said calamity stole
But it's instilled within us to react instead of to respond
To keep our wits about us as opposed to what headlines might abscond
We're conditioned to hop on board of each passing wagon with its band
Send a meme, sign a petition, write hopes inexorably in the sand
For if we sway with every breeze, no matters its breadth or stench,
We cannot lend a helping hand with our fists so tightly clenched
We want the world to change to meet our every whim
We don't think past tomorrow, which is looking ever grim
We rebel against a solution because it doesn't fit our aim
We expect inclusion ~ as long as everyone's the same
Not just the folks you like, who think the things you do
The world would just be tedious if everyone was like you.

So ...

Let's take a little breather; a pause in which to reflect
Not to point a finger or to fight and interject,
But a serious bit of time where we might look up from our screens
See the actual being in front of us and how we can helpfully intervene
We will never move ahead if we just run on the hamster wheel
We must make amends to communicate; to talk, to love, to feel.

A little inspiration

For anyone
that might need
a little reminder;
that might be tired;
that might feel
a little unappreciated.
Remember this:

The woman
is a beautiful melody
when the man
is a good musician.

Looooove This

Perhaps because I am a writer of poetry,
or know so many who write
from the very core of their being.
For myself and for them ...
this ...

There are poems
inside of you
that paper
can't handle.

Yaaaaasssss!!!

Simple

We overthink happiness.
Keep it simple.
We overthink kindness.
Keep it simple.
We overthink goodness.
Keep it simple.
We overthink beauty.
Keep it simple.
We overthink love.
Keep it simple.
There is something good
in every day;
in every situation;
in every action;
in every moment.
Find it
and keep your focus there.

All American

Today is All American Pet (photo) Day
and although I'm not including a photo,
I am leaving this little nugget ...
something that came shortly after Baxter's adoption.

Rescue
by Lyn Marinello

The quiet in the house
was deafeningly sad
The lack of wagging tails
was driving me quite mad
The loneliness at home
without the wiggly greet
Was only matched in depth
by the cold of uncovered feet
And so we took a ride
to the shelter down the road
And found a furry little friend
to brighten up our abode
He quickly stole our hearts
and a stuffed animal or two
But, honestly, I'm just not sure
who exactly rescued who

Your Super Power

We all have within us
a little superhero.
And much like the comic books,
each superhero has a different
super power.

Want to know what yours is?
I already know.

It's
being
YOU!

Yes! This! So very much THIS!

A little bitty quote
by one Paul Coelho:

The world is changed
by your example,
not your opinion.

Thursday, July 7, 2022

A little of this and ...

A little of that.
These are a few of my favorite things ...

Character:
How you treat someone
who can do absolutely nothing for you.

The most important decision
you will ever make
is to be in a good mood
and to be happy.

Fear only has the power
we give it.
Hope works the same way.

We are all broken.
That's how the light gets in.

Morning Mantra

So, as life so eloquently does on occasion,
I am gifted with little phrase nuggets
like the following.
Some are given and shared by others.
Some just kind of become my 'go-to' mantra.
However they find me,
I share them because they are a gift,
and what good is a gift
if you do not give it away?!

Morning Mantra:

I hope this day greets you warmly,
treats you kindly,
meets your necessities,
and beats your expectations.

Joy

A little embellishment from one Charles Wagner ...

Joy is not in things,
it is in us.
It is not in bank accounts,
or driveways,
or jewelry boxes,
or gadgetry,
or mansions,
or notoriety.
It is in family,
in laughter,
in memories,
in hugs,
in held hands,
in conversations,
in quiet coexistence,
in love,
in us.

See

A quote apparently from one John Lubbock ~
I'm really kinda diggin' it!

What we see
depends entirely
on
what we look for.

Winds

Ancient Chinese proverb:
(seems incredibly appropriate
at this juncture ... and most)

As the winds of change
blow,
some people build walls
and others
build windmills.

Where will you
spend your energy?

Stuff

Came across this and loved it.
Thought I'd share and,
of course,
embellish.

The truth is
all of the 'stuff' here on earth,
we work so hard to accumulate,
does not mean a thing.
At the end of the day,
no ...
at the end of A day,
people will be
cleaning out our 'stuff',
going through our 'stuff',
figuring out what to do
with all our 'stuff'.
The 'stuff' that we've amassed.
The only thing of value that remains
are the memories
and what we deposit into others.
What memories are you creating?
What will folks remember about you?
Divisive words? Finger pointing?
Name calling? Intolerance?
May we all learn to spend less time
accumulating 'stuff',
looking for affirmation and accolades,
searching for approval,
and much more time
making magical memories.

Hey there kids! I'm back ~ sort of.
Was supposed to be 'sailing the high seas',
but instead battled the vid for a week. Weeee.
Not quite the disconnect I was searching for,
but I did get some good rest.
See you a little more regularly ...

R & R & R & R

Rest & Relax & Recharge & Rejuvenate!

Will be off-grid for a week or so.
Please do your best to stay positive.
Realize all the goodness and kindness
and beauty and blessings that live
around and within you.
If you do not feel the blessing,
be the blessing.
If you cannot see the goodness,
be the goodness.
If you cannot find the positive,
be the positive.
No grand gestures necessary.
Tiny acts of simple sweet humanity
can make all the difference
in the world.
Until we meet again ...

People

Sometimes,
as I wonder through memories,
I am overwhelmed
with the realization
of who you are
and what you did
to help me build myself ~
sometimes from fragments
and remnants;
sometimes toward victories
and championships;
sometimes just a little better
than the day before.
There are so many people
who played their role
and walked away,
broke me and bragged,
lingered and loved.
Each of you
was/is vital in my journey.
The bruises healed,
and I grew stronger.
The friendship faded,
but the memories are joyous.
The bond continues,
and I am grateful.
The people we encounter
become whatever life
and our decisions make them.
I am thankful for my tribe,
for my stepping stones,
for my sounding boards,
for my support,
for my friends and family
and framily,
for my people.

Share

We spend a vast majority
of our youths
attempting to "fit in";
to be on trend,
to squeak in with the 'it' crowd,
to be fashionable,
to be popular,
to be like everyone else.
I have come to realize,
through life's wringer cycle,
that we were never meant
to "fit in",
to be part of the 'it' crowd,
to be like everyone else.
We are each created
to stand out,
to own our talents,
to excel in our uniqueness,
to beam in our own beauty.
We are gifted
with being individuals.
We are blessed
with special talents and gifts,
raw or refined,
that sit in wait to be shared.
Please ...
go share yours.
The world needs you.
