Your New Outfit

As 2015 comes to a close,
I would recommend:

Undress and leave behind you
the things that weigh you down,
the people who make you sad,
the anger,
the bitterness,
the stuff you're hanging on to
that does nothing for you,
the hurt,
the selfishness,
the self-righteousness,
the pity parties,
the whining.

Cloak yourself
with positive,
with joy,
with hope,
with love,
with support,
with goals,
with dreams,
with faith,
with possibilities.

Happy New Year!
I hope you enjoy your new outfit!

The Mirror

Before you sit in judgment,
make certain you are perfect.
Before you speak poorly,
make sure you are untarnished.
Before you look down,
make confident your perch is worthy.

The Mirror is your greatest tool.

Edu-ma-cate Yo-self

This phrase makes me smile.
It used to be said a lot as I was growing up.
It needs to be said some more.

To live is to learn.
Seek knowledge each day.
Learn just a little something.
A new fact;
a new activity;
a new idea;
a new opportunity.
To be complacent
is to die a little inside.

Reach.
Aspire.
Grow.
Edu-ma-cate Yo-self!

New Year's Resolution

To the zillions of you
that will make a resolution
to lose weight in 2016,
here's a really easy way to start.
No gym membership.
No sweat sessions.
No gasping for air.
No cramping.
No stretching or running.

How about . . .

Leave all the things behind you
that make you sad,
make you angry,
make you bitter,
make you confused.
Leave behind you
the what ifs,
the might haves,
the could haves,
the drama,
the gossip,
the ugly-hearted.

That excess weight is killing you.

Memories

All those fancy packages,
those sparkly ribbons,
shiny wrapping paper,
and twinkling lights ~
Christmas sure can be beautiful.

But . . .
the most precious gifts
cannot be wrapped,
cannot be found in stores,
cannot be written on lists.

Memories!
Those fragile moments in time,
etched forever in our minds
and on our hearts.

Hold the old ones close.
Create fabulous new ones.
Laugh.
Love.

Make Memories!

Light

In Him was life,
and the life
was the light of men.
~ John 1:4

Shine on!

Merry Christmas!
Much love and many blessings.

Thursday, December 24, 2015

Follow . . .

Do NOT follow:

fashion
gossip
hairstyles
the masses
pop ideas

Follow, instead,
the tiny star that led a pair
so long ago
to the beginnings of
incomparable blessings.

Have a beautifully
Merry Christmas!

Celebrate the reason.
Celebrate the season.
Celebrate family.

Christmas Triplets

Triplets born in Christmas.
Beautiful, tender, innocent, perfect!
Rejoice in their arrival; at this time and always.

Hope
Faith
Joy

Hold them close.
Raise them up.
Love them dearly!

Presents

Tis the season, right?
Not so fast.

It is not about how high
the presents are stacked.
It is not about which store
the presents are from.
It is not about how high tech
the presents might be.
It is not about how expensive
the presents might be.

None of that really matters.
What really, truly matters
is that you change the word.

It is your PRESENCE that matters.

You are the best gift ever!

Rejoice!

There might be sadness.
But it passes.
There might be pain.
But it subsides.
There might be confusion.
But clarity comes.
There might be anger.
But it diffuses.
There might be darkness.
But light is coming.
Rejoice!

In all things . . .
Rejoice!

A little bit more

Maybe Christmas, he thought,
doesn't come from a store.
Maybe Christmas, perhaps,
means a little bit more.

Full

It is such an extraordinary feeling
to be Full!

Aware that you might not have
wealth
fame
riches
gadgets
sports cars
baubles . . .
but that what you DO have
is absolutely everything!

I am Full!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

What do you do?

From Sara Teasdale:

"I make the most of all that comes,
and the least of all that goes."

Simple and yet so tremendously vital!

Relish

In a world currently filled
with hate,
fighting,
fear-mongering,
bickering,
and more,
it is a beautiful gesture
that stands above so many things.

A kind word,
a warming smile,
a full on hug,
a helping hand.
These things are priceless
and rare.

When you receive one,
let it melt your woes,
your anguish,
your pain.
Relish in the gift it is!

Joy

There are times
when a lunch date,
a beautiful friendship,
a truly thoughtful gift,
remembering kind deeds,
and meeting folks who make a difference
bubble up from deep inside
and leak out through my eyes!

It is a joyful tear that's shed for you.
Thank you!!!

Give

There is no equivalent to the feeling of giving.

To offer up your time,
your talent,
your efforts,
your gifts,
your heart,
your smile,
your friendship,
your love,
to help someone else.

Go.
Give.

6:18

So, for the past four mornings
I opened my eyes and found 6:18 on my clock.
The first day, I groaned and tried to go back to sleep.
The second day, I mumbled that that was weird.
The third day, I just said, "Wow!"
Today, again, at 6:18, I said, "Hey, perhaps a message!"

Ephesians 6:18

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayers and requests."

What time do you wake up???

Dare

Dare to dream.
Dare to think.
Dare to believe.
Dare to try.
Dare to love.
Dare to laugh.
Dare to share.
Dare to fail.
Dare to be.
Dare to live.

Finding that Special Someone

Oh the things we do to attract others.
The workouts,
the makeup,
the hair styles,
the fashions.
All in hopes that we'll find that someone special.

I've got a secret.

shhhhhh

That someone special
is YOU!

Until you're happy with you,
no one else will fill any voids.
Find your someone special . . .
inside your own very special self!

Lose Yourself

I don't know about you,
but music is part of the foundation of my life.

I grew up surrounded by it.
Everything from the doo wop of the 50's to classic rock.
From classical to heavy metal.
From folk to orchestral.
It really does soothe the savage beast.
It quiets the mind.
It ignites passion.
It fuels a workout.
It softens loss.
It empowers.
It brings memories to life.

Today . . . find a moment to lose yourself in music.
You won't regret it.

Choice

Choice is magnificent.
Choice is uplifting.
Choice is enlightening.
Choice is strengthening.
Choice is YOURS!

You choose how you behave.
You choose how you respond.
You choose who you associate with.
You choose who you befriend.
You choose your emotions.
You choose your feelings.
You choose.
You!

Your Path

Sometimes our paths seem clear and concise.
Other times, we wonder if there really even is a path at all.
We struggle through the underbrush,
climb atop the boulders,
slither around debris,
and finally fall, exhausted,
on the nearest clump of earth to rest.
It is at this time,
that our path is defined by much more
than a simple direction.
We endure so very much
to offer ourselves to others.
We struggle in order to realize the strength
to help another human.
We slither and climb
so that we might gain tenacity and perseverance.
And, when we have rested for a brief moment,
on our little clump of earth,
we see again, a sliver of a tattered route
on which we continue our journey.
Stronger.
Braver.
Steadfast.

Follow Your Path.

A Single Candle

All the darkness in the world,
cannot extinguish the light
of a single candle.

Be that candle!

December

Oh December!
Christmas time!
I'm kind of a Christmas nerd.
I collect Santas and Angels.
I so believe in the Reason behind the season.

I hope that your holidays
are whatever you need them to be;
filled with love,
faith,
family,
fun,
lights,
ribbons,
giggles,
joy,
and peace!

Bam!

In the very eloquent words of a Frenchman . . .

When deeds speak,
words are nothing.

Bam!

Something to Think About

Are you the 'half empty'
or the 'half full' person?
Here's something to think about . . .

How about ~ you have a glass!

You can have it half full,
half empty,
full of ice,
full of flowers,
full of seashells,
full of change,
full of whatever you want!
It's your glass.
Do what you want.

Friday, November 27, 2015

Breathe

Today . . . there will be madness.
There will be stampedes
and haggling
and raised voices
and yelling
and pushing
and shoving.

I want you to breathe.

The holidays are not about the gifts.
The holidays are not about the deals.
The holidays are not about the coupons.

Breathe!

The holidays are just a tiny bit more important.
Faith. Family. Friends.

Breathe.

Be polite.
Be pleasant.
Be nice.
Be kind.

Breathe.

Thankful

Embrace the day!
Grasp every blessing.
Take a hold of all the laughter
and love and keep it close in your heart.

Be thankful for every little thing.
For pain.
For the overcoming of it.
For sorrow.
For the strength you gain from it.
For defeat.
For the resilience you find from it.

Be thankful for every little thing.
For hugs.
For friends.
For laughter.
For memories.
For love.
For strength.
For awe.
For inspiration.
For family.
For tenacity.
For health.
For grace.
For your gifts.
For giving.
Your blessings far outweigh anything else.

Be Thankful!

Rewards

Life is full of rewards ~
you just have to know where to look.
I'm not talking about trophies, headlines, accolades, or lotteries.
I'm referring to REAL rewards.
The ones you feel deep in your bones.

At my crazy job, that makes me nuts and tired and loopy,
I had several guests yesterday that helped me to remember
the real rewards in life.

The first was a regular.
She was buying pants for her mother who was recovering from surgery.
She didn't have a lot of money because she herself is on her last round of chemo
for breast cancer.
I walked her across the store and helped her find some good sales.
She ended up in my line - and there were tears in both our eyes as we wished
each other a Happy Thanksgiving ~ each thankful for the other.

The second was an elderly woman.
She was frantic about buying the perfect shoes for an upcoming event with
very limited funds to do so.
She had a coupon and rewards and her shoes were on clearance.
When I told her that her shoes were free, she too started crying.
She said I was an Angel and she was thankful for me.

I didn't do anything but my job.
But, in doing so I touched a heart.
There is nothing as rewarding as to improve the life of another human being.

Holiday Math

By G.K. Chesterton:

I would maintain that
thanks are the highest form
of thought,
and that gratitude is happiness
doubled by wonder.

Go get your math on!

What's the Difference?

Some days
I just don't want to write.
I would like to stay snuggled in my bed,
cozy and comfy and drifting in and out of sleep.
Some days
we are just too tired to produce that smile.
We'd like to just put our head down,
trudge through our tasks and finish up the day.
Some days
we are consumed with activities.
We don't recognize
the blessings and the joys that surround us.
Some days, we take the introvert road.
That's not good.

Think about:
When someone says, "Today's blog really made me think," or "Today's blog was great!";
When your smile changes someone else's mood, or behavior, or day;
When you truly count your blessings and realize the value of what you have . . .

What's the difference?

YOU are the difference!
Go . . . be the difference.

Move!

I might have posted this prior,
but it seems rather poignant these days . . .

If you don't like where you are, move . . .
You are not a tree.

So very simple and yet . . . duh!

Friday, November 20, 2015

What do you see?

When you look in the mirror,
what do you see?
Do you see what I see?

Strength
Beauty
Grace
Determination
Spirit
Faith
Fortitude
Brilliance
Joy
Tenacity
Love
Kindness
Hope

You are amazing.

A Special Gift

There is a present out there;
so interesting,
so amazing,
so intriguing,
so beautiful,
so special,
so valuable,
so spectacular,
so extraordinary.

It is delivered in incredible fashion.
It is wrapped exquisitely.
It is inspirational.
It is awe-inspiring.
It is vital.

It is YOU!

Harmony

When things seem fractured,
do what music does . . .
create a harmony.
Put parts together,
that might not always seem to mesh,
and blend something beautiful.
Sometimes,
there is no 'right' answer.
What one sees as correct,
another sees as unfathomable.
Bring them together
and create something
unbelievable.
In diversity,
there is magic.
In unity,
there is strength.
Let's create a little harmony.

Take a Hike

Today is
National Take a Hike Day!

Now, for those than can,
please . . . literally . . . go . . .
Take a Hike!

For those of us who are working,
understand that 'taking a hike'
can come in many forms.
Sit outside for your meal break.
Enjoy the air.
Read a little.
Listen to some tunes.
Embrace time away from the grind . . .
even if it's just behind a door.
Take a moment for yourself.
'Take a Hike' from the norm.
Seek respite from the rat race.
Open your eyes to the
beauty and blessings around you.

Take a Hike!

Light

There is a light
within each of us
that cannot be extinguished
by hurtful words,
unkind actions,
treachery or terror.
Do not let your light be dimmed
by the action of cowards.
Shine on ~
in remembrance of those lost.
Shine on ~
to guide others.
Shine on ~
to be a beacon of love
of peace
of hope.
Be the Light!

Friday, November 13, 2015

Off-Grid

It is imperative
that every once in a while
you simply go
Off-Grid.

Unplug.
Turn your phone off.
Shut off your computer.
Nix the tv.
No tablets, no laptops,
no I-anything.

Sit outside.
Enjoy your family.
Breathe in nature.
Listen to the waves.
Find yourself again.

Thursday, November 12, 2015

Laugh

One must exercise.
One must eat properly.
One must ensure a safe environment.
One must sleep well.

But, equally as important,
One must Laugh!

Enjoy the silliness around you.
Laughter is good for the soul.

Sacrifice

To honor our Veterans today,
I'm writing about sacrifice.

The choice some brave men and women make
to give up their time,
their youth,
their families,
their livelihood,
their health,
and sometimes their lives . . .
so that so many others may live freely.

For your selfless sacrifice
of so very much,
I salute and admire you.
Thank you for all you are and do,
and have done prior.

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

True

I'm a massive fan of honesty,
but the 'true' I'm referring to here
is more about realizing your own value,
your own worth,
your own passions,
your own vision,
your own core,
and being 'true' to that.

In that, there is honesty.
Honesty to yourself.
That's where it all starts.

When you find yourself lost,
confused,
questioning . . .
strip yourself down to the core.
Find your real self.
It is never too late to start again.

Be True
to you.

Ch-Angel Nick

As Veterans Day approaches,
I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge
one of my most favorite Ch-Angels . . .
my nephew Nick.

A young man in years,
yet he has made quite an impact already.
He is a volunteer fireman,
business man,
a wonderful son,
a fabulous brother,
an incredible nephew,
proud poppa of his furry child,
and just returned yesterday from Afghanistan . . . again.

He is a giver.
He is a fighter, but gentle and a giant teddy bear.
He is a kind and loving and wonderful soul.
He is a protector of both his family and country.
It is an honor to be family, his aunt, and his friend.
There should be more 'Nick's'.

Thank you Ch-Angel.
Know that you make a difference.

Ness

I am a firm believer in
always looking forward.

Toward a new day,
new hope,
new adventures,
new ideas,
new people,
new opportunities,
new choices,
new lessons,
new "Ness."

Go find your Ness.

Friday, November 6, 2015

Doubt

Doubt is a horrible weight
to carry around.
Face each day,
each choice,
each burden
with a 'when,' not an 'if.'
You can do this.
You were made to do this.

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Neighbors

There will always be the
Debbie Downers,
the Negative Nellies,
the Bullying Betties,
the Woe-is-me Wilmas.
Death by association is
a slow and painful end.

Associate with those folks
that lift you up,
bring you joy,
offer you peace,
allow you to be you,
love you,
enlighten you,
encourage you.

Your neighbors are everything.
Choose wisely.

Work

"We either make ourselves miserable,
or we make ourselves strong.
The amount of work is the same."

Hmmmmm

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Little Things

It surely is the 'little things'
that create the bounty of our lives.

Of course, the obvious is infants.
The innocence, dependence, snuggly,
cuddly, giggly, wriggly, smiley,
lovable little humans that need
us larger people to survive and thrive.

I mean the compliments,
the smiles,
the assistance,
the kind gestures,
words of encouragement,
hugs,
companionship,
laughter,
comfort,
respect.

You need not be wealthy
to make a difference.
It takes exactly ZERO dollars
to be a decent human being.

Go, share some little things . . .

Everything

To have a sense of self worth,
is basically,
to have
everything!

Saturday, October 31, 2015

Thank You

It is an important life lesson
to be thankful for everything.
Yes . . . Everything!

I am thankful
for those that hurt me,
lied to me,
betrayed me,
injured me,
bullied me.
You made me strong and resilient.

I am thankful
for those that love me,
support me,
encourage me,
enlighten me,
teach me.
You made me wise and eager.

I am thankful
for those I laugh with,
play with,
am deviant with,
sing with,
share with,
debate with,
talk with,
hug.
You've taught me to
keep an open heart, an open mind,
and open arms.

Thank You!

Contentment

In acknowledging all of my blessings yesterday,
I realized I cannot count that high.
And, in finding ways to be a blessing to others,
I have realized how very content I really am.

I hope you find the same contentment.

They Are Everywhere

Miracles and Angels!
Angels and Miracles!

They are behind you at the grocery store.
A coworker.
A guest.
A patient.
A passerby.
A student.
A teacher.
A friend.
A stranger.

That moment when someone reaches into your heart
with a simple word,
a kind gesture,
a piece of advice,
and truly touches you.

THAT is a Miracle,
brought by an Angel!

Be richly blessed today.
And thanks for being my
Miracles and Angels.

Let the Glory Out!

Edwin Markham said:

"Defeat may serve as well as victory
to shake the soul and let the glory out."

Whatever your defeat may be,
let it serve its purpose.
Shake your soul and let the glory out!

Dive in

If you're not happy
with your current situation,
change it.
If you don't like
your current appearance,
change it.
If you'd care to experience
different things,
change what you do.

Be bold.
Be daring.
Cast off the worries.
Dive in.

Who knows what you can do?!

Monday, October 26, 2015

They await you.

There are days
when you simply have to
kick the peons off your red carpet,
reupholster your throne,
shine up your cape bling,
straighten your crown,
and move on.

The folks and negative issues
that hold you back
and hold you down
are not worthy of your worry.

You are destined for great things.
Go and get them.
They await you.

M.A.D.

Today is National Make A Difference Day.

Do I really need to elaborate?
Do I need to explain your obligations?
Do I need to give opportunities?
Do I need to provide options?

Get out there.

Make A Difference!

Friday, October 23, 2015

Grab your opportunity

Not sure who said it.
Don't really care.
It is undeniably and beautifully true.

Wherever this is a human being,
there is an opportunity for kindness.

Go grab your opportunity.

Pickin' Time

Since it's harvest time,
here's a little something special
from Mother Teresa:

Love is a fruit
in season at all times,
and within reach
of every hand.

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Be Nice

So this morning, a friend of mine
who was feeling a little overwhelmed with life
was bold and brave enough
to ask folks to tell her happy and nice things.

Imagine if that were the case
every day
for no apparent reason
other than to improve someone's day.

Today,
I challenge you
to randomly,
and without reason or expectation,
simply compliment someone else.

You might amaze yourself
with what a difference
a few simple words can make.

Go . . . be nice.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Happy Heart

Start each day
with a Happy Heart.

Be thankful to see a new sunrise.
Be excited about the opportunities before you.
Be helpful to those around you.
Bring joy and cheer wherever you go.
Believe you have a purpose.
Know that you are loved.

A Happy Heart
is a Healthy Heart.

Help.

Teddy Roosevelt once said,

"Far and away the best prize that life has to offer
is the chance to work hard and work worth doing."

Do something you are passionate about.
Help veterans.
Help critters.
Help kids.
Help.

Where do you live?

I'm not asking about the kind of house,
or the state . . .
but more your state of mind.

There are those that live in a dark house,
decorated in sadness,
that have let life dilapidate and destroy
the foundation it should be built on.
They close the curtains.
They plant pity-me flowers.
They choose to live on lonely street,
at Heartbreak Hotel.
(for my musical friends).

I choose to live
on the sunny side of the street.
Life has tried to beat me up.
It has thrown me all kinds of storms,
but my foundation is solid.
I choose to throw open my curtains
and let the sunlight pour in.
I may not have the greenest thumb,
but I keep on planting beautiful flowers.
I live in positivity,
in love,
in joy.

You're welcome to visit any time.
I'd really rather prefer you move in next door!

Faith

Faith is that step

on ice too thin,
a branch too slight,
down a path unknown,
into the dark.

Knowing that

the ice will hold,
the branch is strong,
the path leads to positive,
there is light.

Have Faith!

Change your seat

I share from my eyes.
I cannot make you see.
I share from my ears.
I cannot make you hear.
I share from my heart.
I cannot make you feel.

My perspective is of
honesty,
blessings,
positivity,
grace.
Your perspective is your own.

Change your seat
if you don't like your viewpoint.

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Help!

When life gets a little hectic,
when you feel totally overwhelmed,
when you can't seem to untie the knots,
stop what you are doing.

In these times of trials,
it is often our squirming
and our twisting
that makes things worse.

Look around you.
Does someone need help?
Can you offer a hand,
a hug,
an ear,
a shoulder,
an open heart?

It is in helping others
that we usually find
a little help for ourselves.

Go . . . help!

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Joy comes in the morning

It is such a comfort to know
that so many folks love and support me.
After a rough few days
and a rougher sort of evening,
joy comes in the morning.

It does.

Whatever you're facing . . .
whatever challenges
hardships
issues
complications . . .
joy comes in the morning.

Go greet your morning.

Persist

I have chosen to make use of only part of a quote today,
because I believe it's the most important part . . .

"We are made to persist."

We can get beat up,
beat down,
harassed,
harangued,
abused,
hurt,
saddened,
pummeled,
labeled,
laughed at,
dismissed,
demeaned,
belittled,
and more.

But . . .

We are made to persist.

Go . . . persist!

Focus on the fabulous!

Sometimes,
we focus too much on the stress,
the worry,
the negative,
the bad things going on in our lives.

Yesterday was filled
with weddings,
with babies,
with the beauty
and bliss of nature.

Focus on the fabulous!

Go . . . be

I am partially off-grid for the weekend.
Before I run away, though,
I want to make sure you know that I'm headed out
to go . . . be.

I will be out on the water.
I will be playing.
I will be laughing.
I will be relaxing.
I will be removing stress.
I will go . . . be.

It is incredibly important
that you find time to do the same.

Go . . . be.

Your own self

Your own self.
You are a beautiful self.
You are an incredible self.
Your beliefs and your actions and your thoughts
are what shape your amazing self.

One must be careful though
not to impede on
my beliefs and my actions and my thoughts
because those are what shape
my amazing self.
My incredible self.
My beautiful self.
My own self.

And this is true
from every way you read this.

Good Morning

Breakfast, it is said,
is the most important meal of the day.
It fuels your body and provides you
with the energy you'll need to take care of business.

But what is better than breakfast?

Attitude!

If you've been blessed
with another morning,
you're already doing better than some.
You've got another chance;
another opportunity;
another day to do the right thing,
make the right choices,
be a better person.

Today is a gift!
If greeted with the sun . . .
rise and shine!

It's gonna be a great day!!!

Comfort

I believe my physical appearance will always be
a 'work in progress'.
I don't believe I'll ever be comfortable with
my weight,
my hair,
my nails,
my clothes,
etc.
But . . .
what I believe to be FAR more important
is that I'm finally comfortable in my skin.
I have no issues being me.
I speak my mind.
I bare my soul.
I stand firm in my beliefs.
I voice my opinion.
I stand up for what I believe is right.
And I truly believe, with all I am,
that being comfortable in my own self
far outweighs any physical attributes.
What do you think?

YOU!

This is slightly paraphrased and altered
to reach a few select folks and hopefully make a difference.

"I have been trying to make the best of grief and strife,
and am just beginning to learn to allow it
to make the best of me."

No matter what you're facing,
no matter how difficult
or seemingly insurmountable,
there is a lesson,
a bridge,
a building block in there
to a better, stronger, more brilliant
YOU!

Make Good Choices

Ask my children about this statement.
They heard, "Make Good Choices!" nearly every day
for most of their lives.
They still do.

Life may throw you curve balls.
Life may punch you in the gut.
Life may irritate you.
Life may infuriate you.
How you respond
makes all the difference in the world.

Make Good Choices.

Life Lessons

It may have taken me quite a while,
but I've learned a few important life lessons:

1. I am worthy. I matter. I make a difference.
2. I am loved. There will be haters, but they are of no consequence.
Those that love me are far more important.
3. I am imperfect. I am full of flaws. I am cracked and worn and weathered.
That is where wisdom and resilience is allowed to enter my life.
4. It is ok to speak your mind. You do not need to offend, but you can share.
5. I am you and you are me.

These lessons are for every person every where.

Go make the day fantastic!

Condiments

"Failure is the condiment
that gives success its flavor."
Truman Capote

Don't ever be afraid to
get your condiment on.

Trust

There will very rarely be a billboard
with directions on how to proceed.
One must trust in those minute, tiny,
nearly-missed signs that urge you on your way.
Sometimes, you just have to square your shoulders
and push forward.

Trust in the knowledge that
you will weather the storm,
you are worth the journey,
you can overcome whatever is in front of you,
you have talents you never knew,
you are stronger than you can imagine,
you can do this.

Trust . . .
in yourself!

Tell them

A dear and wonderful friend posted something
quite purposeful today.
It was in reference to actually letting people know
that you love and care about them.
We all have a plethora of friends.
We enjoy our time together.
We laugh and chat.

How often, though, do we express our feelings?
Our thankfulness for their existence?
Our appreciation for their kindness?
Our affection for them as human beings?

Today, I challenge you . . .
to express yourself.
To allow yourself to be humbled enough
to share your thoughts,
your admiration,
your adoration,
your real self.

Don't take for granted that people 'know'.
Tell them.

Good Neighbor

Today is National Good Neighbor Day.

By small minded folk,
this may be interpreted as to be nice
to the folks who live to your left
the folks who live to your right
and perhaps even the folks who live behind you.

To those whose view is larger . . .

This means EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING.

We are all neighbors on this giant whirling ball.
We are all connected and intertwined.
We all can do a little good each day.
We can offer a smile, a hand, a hug, a shoulder,
an ear, or an open heart.

Be a Good Neighbor today.

and every day . . .

My Favorite Ch-Angels

My favorite Ch-Angels . . .

Those folks that perk up any day,
no matter how dismal,
no matter how dreary,
no matter your mood,
no matter your madness.

Those folks that just walk with a spring,
speak with a joy,
hug with a purpose,
spread love with their mere existence.

Those folks.

They are my favorite Ch-Angels!

Thank you.

Peace

Take refuge where it suits you best.

For some, it's the ocean.
For others, the mountains.
I adore an open field.
Or a babbling brook.
Some enjoy the company of others.
Some indulge in music or art or creativity.
Some bask in the glory of getting sweaty and dirty.

Wherever you find yourself most calm
and able to center yourself,
go there.

Find your peace.

My Apologies

As life occasionally will do,
I was handed a curve ball when my computer took a dive.
I was forced to take a few days off.
I checked email via my phone.
I have not put Facebook on my phone mostly because
I'd never again accomplish anything if I did.

So . . . I was forced to breathe.
To sit and reflect.
To clean.
To converse.
To communicate with other humans with my voice.

I highly recommend this to everyone.
Not the having to get a new computer thing.
Just the taking a break thing.

It's quite refreshing.
Back at it though.
Make it a great one!

Blue

Today, I'll wear my blue,
not for autism - which needs much support;
not for police - who deserves our respect;
but for myositis.

Juvenile Dermatomyositis
is the life-threatening auto-immune disease
that my son was diagnosed with in the 3rd grade.
It attacks the skin and muscles and organs.
There is no cure.
2 in a million are diagnosed.
It is rare.
The path of treatment is different for each child.
We were told maybe two years . . .
we were treated for seven!
But we are a victory!
My son is doing well.
He is healthy and thriving.
We have lost others.

Spread the word.
Raise awareness.
Get your blue on!

Every Now and Again

As taught by my wise and wonderful mother,
every now and again . . .
you need . . . actually NEED . . . to be silly.

Sing out loud with store music.
Join in a street performance.
Offer someone money to juggle.
Pretend to speak a foreign language.
Spend the day people watching.
Wear polka dots and plaid together.
Sometimes . . . silly needs to be set free.

Today is National Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Why not start there
and see where it leads . . . Matey!

Open

Up and at 'em early today.
Throughout my little morning ritual
one word keeps popping up:

Open

Open eyes to see the good.
Open ears to hear the melody.
Open hands to offer help.
Open arms to give a hug.
Open heart to welcome love.

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Still

There are many days
when dark clouds fill my sky.
I wake up still.
There are many days
when people seem unusually mean.
I smile still.
There are many days
when things don't go as planned.
I walk on still.
There are many days
when life seems a little harsh.
I believe still.
There are many days
when I may feel a little defeated.
I carry on still.

You can be defeated;
or you can face your troubles,
continue on your path,
put your shoulders back and hold your head up high.

You are here  . . .
Still!

Accountability

Imagine this . . .

What if we were all accountable for
our words?
our actions?
our efforts?

What if we faced the consequences for
our words?
our actions?
our efforts?

What if we faced the blessings of
our words?
our actions?
our efforts?

The choice is yours.
What will you be accountable for?

Vessel

I am but a vessel.
As are you.

If you have the opportunity
to improve the life of another,
do it.
If you can positively impact
someone else . . .
do it.

We are but a vessel
moving through the madness
trying to make the world better
in whatever way we're able.

Recharge

To Recharge.

To sit quietly.
To laugh.
To unwind.
To breathe.
To be rained on.
To be in the company of those you love.

Good stuff.
Go get recharged.

Always Remember

Today is a day that will live forever so vividly
in the memories and hearts of Americans.

It was a day of violation and loss and anger and hurt.
It was a day when cowards attacked us.
The normal phrase for today is 'Never Forget'.
I choose, as always, to remain positive.

I will 'Always Remember'!

I will remember countless stories of bravery.
I will remember patriotism oozing from everywhere.
I will remember and honor the lives taken. (They were not lost.)
I will remember this country coming together.

I will Always Remember.

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Speak Up. Speak Out.

If you see something wrong; Speak Up. Speak Out.
If something truly upsets you; Speak Up. Speak Out.
If you are unhappy with your situation; Speak Up. Speak Out.

Change will not come with the wind.
Correction does not wait for an invitation.
Happiness comes to those who choose to take it.

Speak Up.
Speak Out.

Interrupted

I was reminded last night, by a dear friend,
that in helping others we help ourselves.
And in our mutual misery, for the moment,
this seems to scream at me:

"For sleep, riches and health to be truly enjoyed,
they must be interrupted."
~ Jean Paul

When pondered, it is quite a grand statement.
Truth in its simplest form.

Worry

I have told you before that when things pop up repeatedly,
I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to do something with it.
This morning alone, I've seen the word 'worry' about a dozen times.
Maybe it's a message to me.
Maybe it's for me to send a message.

It is a normal, natural emotion to worry.
We fret about a great many things.
Does it ever help?
NO!
Does it ever make us feel better?
NO!
Does it make the situation improve?
NO!

It only robs this moment of its joy.
It dilutes the day's blessings.
It obscures the opportunities before us.

Today, I'm taking the hint.
I received a prayer box for my birthday.
I'm taking my tiny pen and my tiny stack of paper
and I'm giving my worries over to God.
I can't do anything with them.
I will focus instead on the great blessings that surround me.
I will focus on the positives.
I will focus on faith and family and friends and frivolity.

What will you do?

Monday, September 7, 2015

Labor Day

Do what you love.
Love what you do.
You'll never labor a day in your life.

Saturday, September 5, 2015

Remain Calm

Life tends to whip itself into an occasional frenzy.
Sometimes, we are caught up in the chaos,
the fury,
the fragility,
the madness.

Remain Calm.

Really breathe in the situation.
See it for the opportunities it presents.
Value its lessons.
Realize it's just a test.
This too shall pass.
Do not add to the volatility.

Remain Calm.

Redirect

Redirect.

We are taught it when we're children.
We just don't know it.
When we're having a tantrum
and someone distracts us with something else,
we are redirected.

As we become parents,
it is a natural and effective tool
to use on our own children.

What has happened, then,
to adults?
It seems we are only redirected
by newer gadgets,
bigger toys,
grander illusions of tangible toxicity.

We need to redirect our attention.
To those in need.
To those who hurt.
To those that need support.
No one gets out alive.
Let's make it better while we're here.

Stop!

It's time to stop.

Stop with colors;
Stop with genders;
Stop with religions;
Stop with race;
Stop with beliefs;
Stop with locations;
Stop with anything but
realizing that EVERY life matters!
From the fetus to the feline.
We are one -
connected by our mere existence.
We will either stand united,
helping one another;
or we will fall short separated,
labeling one another.

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Determination

Where there's a will . . .
there's a way.

Get in a mind set of completion;
of victory;
of the impossibility of failure.

If I can do it . . .
anyone can!

Ch-Angels Everywhere

When there is a specific Ch-Angel to take note of,
I will inform you.
Today, though, I want you to be conscious of ALL
the Ch-Angels EVERYWHERE!

Those folks whose smile brightens your day.
Those whose kind word brings you joy.
Those whose happy heart lightens your mood.
Those whose hug might fix your woes - if only momentarily.
Those whose ear is always listening;
Whose shoulder is always sturdy;
Whose light is always shining.

THOSE Ch-Angels.
I love those Ch-Angels.

They are everywhere!

Pretty Please

God,
grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

We all know I don't look good
in orange or stripes.

Have a wonderful day!

A Walk Within

Mark Twain did it again:

"A man cannot be comfortable
without his own approval."

We cannot look to others for acceptance.
We cannot look for a partner to be made whole.
We must look inward
to find satisfaction
to find comfort
to find peace
to find love
to find joy
to find us.

Light It Up

There are times
when we are called upon
to be the light in the darkness.

It is extraordinary
what one little light can do.

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Reflection

We tend to do and become
what we believe we can do and become.
Much of our limitations are imposed
by our own hand.
We are weakened by self-doubt.
We fall short because of our own negativity.

When you look in the mirror today,
imagine what you CAN be;
ponder what you COULD do;
fantasize what you MIGHT become.

The incredibly beautiful person staring back at you
is the same person who can do
WHATEVER you might believe you can!

Stealing

Stealing is a bad, bad thing.

Unless . . .

it's moments.

Steal a moment
to sit quietly,
to ponder,
to hold hands,
to rock a baby,
to enjoy the surf,
to listen to the birds,
to sip a beverage,
to exist with someone special,
to sing,
to dance,
to live.

Go . . .
be bad and steal a moment.

Catch It

I grew up in upstate New York.
Evenings brought out fire flies.
It was always an adventure to try to catch them,
jar them, and have your own light show.
There was just an excitement;
an awe;
a childlike innocence and reverence to watching them.

As an adult;
we lose the enthusiasm;
we work too long;
we work too hard;
we leave no energy to chase the light show.

People . . .
STOP!

Breathe.

Sit.
Be amazed.
Run.
Capture the purity.
Delight in the simple joy
of nature's light show.

Puzzles

We are each composed of many pieces.
At times, we fall apart;
are ripped apart;
or seem to come apart.
There is no nobler task,
that to stick someone back together.
Whether it is a hug;
an ear;
or simply existing by someone . . .
the effort is minimal;
the effect is tremendous.

Go . . .
be the glue.

Saturday, August 22, 2015

Gifts

This morning,
I opened two very special gifts . . . my eyes.
And I was able to see the vast array
of well wishes and love from family and friends;
the best presents a soul could wish for.
Oh life is good
if we take the time to realize our real gifts.

Thank you!

Friday, August 21, 2015

You got this

There will always be

could haves
should haves
might haves.

There will always be

uh oh's
oh no's
oops's.

None of those are final..
They are lessons toward the

Wow!
Outstanding!
Congratulations!

Keep on.
You got this.

You're only given a little spark of madness.
You mustn't lose it.

and remember that every day

Becoming You

Anna Quindlen said:

"The thing that is really hard,
and really amazing,
is giving up on being perfect
and beginning the work of becoming yourself."

Perfection is reserved for only one being.
You are full of magnificent flaws
and wonderful opportunities.
Embrace each one and
become the incredible human
you were destined to be.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Enjoy it

Don't regret the things you've done.
If it didn't work out, you learned from it.
If it did work out, you gained from it.
There is ALWAYS a benefit.
Enjoy it.

Tethers

When born, we are literally tethered to our mothers.
They may 'cut the cord,' but the tether is eternal.
We spend our youth stretching and tugging and yanking on that rope.
By adulthood, we've managed to all but sever the tie that binds.
Then we have our own offspring and trip and are entangled in our own tethers.
We are embroiled in our own battles of trying to reign in what we've created.
And, as our own children age, we turn once again to the tethers of our parents.
We are the ones, now, who are pulling and tugging to draw them nearer.
And suddenly, that line snaps, and we are set adrift;
anchored only by the tentacles of what we have offered to our children.
And we float,
searching,
seeking,
hoping,
to one day feel that tug and pull.
We are all connected.

Grow

From the very wise Christine Caine:

Sometimes
when you're in a dark place,
you think you've been buried,
but actually . . .
you've been planted.

Grow, baby! Grow!

Four Little Words

I work in the crazy world of retail.
Many days are hectic, filled with coupons,
sales, deals and people looking to get something for nothing.
There are days that I literally stand at the register
for six or seven hours straight listening to people complain
about why they cannot do this, that, or the other thing
and get a $90 pair of shoes for 13 cents.
And, while I slap my smile on and do my very best
to give everyone wonderful customer service,
it is that one guest . . . every day . . .
that will turn my whole world upside down
with just four little words.
With chaos spinning all around us,
angry guests, sales pitches, and walkies chattering . . .
"Have a blessed day"
changes absolutely everything!

It makes the madness stop.
It turns the turmoil into tranquility.
It is simply amazing.

Change someone's day.
Utter those four little words and see what happens.

Have A Blessed Day.

Rare

Rare
is the smile that peeks out from the tears.
Rare
is the laughter that hides the pain.
Rare
is the heart that loves despite the hurt.
Rare
is the faith that stands amid the fire.
Rare
is the soul who emerges victorious.

Go.
Be Rare!

Yes I Can

A positive mind set
is essential to existence.
It not only propels you
in the direction of your dreams.
It provides you a path of positivity
on which others may wander,
if only briefly,
to find their own way.

Sometimes,
your "Yes, I Can!"
is the catalyst
for someone else's
"I Can Too".

Share It!

I am a frequent advocate for your choice to be happy.
No matter the situation, there is always an opportunity
to see a glimmer of hope, a ray of sunshine, a positive.
I tend to surround myself with happy people.
It makes life much more pleasant.

Here is your challenge for today
(and every day hereafter)
take your happiness and . . .

Share It!

Don't be selfish.
Don't keep your giggles,
your enthusiasm,
your smiles,
your cheer,
your pleasantries to your self.
Share them
and see how easily and quickly
they multiply.

Go.
Be Happy.
Share It!

The art of living

Marcus Aurelius said:

The art of living
is more like wrestling than dancing.

I tend to agree.
We work very hard.
We get very sweaty.
Parts ache.
Things get injured.
But when the match is over,
in our exhaustion,
we have realized a victory all our own.

Saturday, August 8, 2015

That first step . . .

I don't know a single soul who will flippantly jump into something new.

Most folks I know,
want to be educated about a new thing;
want to research a new thing;
are afraid to try a new thing;
are unsure of how a new thing is going to go;
are wary of a new thing that does not fit in their comfort zone;
are cautious of new things.

This is normal.
This is human nature.
It is ok.

But . . . take that first step . . .
and it might be a scary one . . .
and the world becomes your oyster!

I'm so proud of my friends and family
who have taken that scary first step,
into the unknown,
to find how strong, resilient, and amazing they are.

Where will you step today?

Look out world . . .

Each day, I earnestly seek out someone to bolster.
I try to find someone who might be a little down,
a little under the weather,
a wee bit lacking in the self-esteem department,
searching for a hug.

I do what I can to raise them up,
offer them sunshine,
boost their morale,
and hug them back to normal.

If we all tried to do this;
to just one person;
each and every day . . .
what a glorious world it would be.

Look out world . . .
here I come!

People

For the first time in two-and-a-half years,
a customer yelled at me yesterday.
She was wrong. I was right. I was OK standing my ground.
The manager actually backed me up,
which was refreshing and I was grateful.
My co-worker asked me after the guest left if I was OK.
I replied yes and thought about it for a moment.

There are all kinds of people out there.
There are Ch-Angels and there are not so very nice folks.
There are folks that just want to be angry.
There are folks that go out of their way to be nice.
There are overbearing type A's.
There are the submissive types.
They are either support, lessons, or billboards of what not to do.
They are either helpful or hurtful.
They are what you ALLOW them to be.
Use the supporting folks to aid you in your journey.
Use the lesson folks to learn from.
Use the billboard folks to teach others.

There is no shame in walking away from idiots.
There is no guilt in leaving behind those that hurt you.
Surround yourself with positive people who lift you up.

Be a Positive People!

Options

Every day, we have a choice.
We can be happy, or we can be crappy.
The decision is yours.

Hurdles teach you how to jump.
Mountains teach you how to climb.
Roadblocks teach you to explore.
Negativity promotes determination.

You cannot control the situation.
You cannot control the actions of others.
You absolutely hold within your hands
the option of how to respond to either.

Time Out

I'm not a fan of the parenting 'time out'.
The two year old doesn't understand that he's supposed
to contemplate the consequences of his actions
and come up with a feasible alternative.
The adult 'time out', though,
is an entirely different story.

Sit.
Reevaluate.
Breathe.
Refresh.
Listen.
Rekindle.
Watch.
Recoup.
See.
Restore.
Chill.
Relax.

Much more productive.
Enjoy a little 'time out' today.
And every day.

Half Full?

If you live in the Tampa Bay area,
your cup is not half full.
It is overflowing onto the counter, the floor,
might be ruining the tile and more.

Rain is a wonderful tool.
It is cleansing,
provides for beautiful lush landscaping,
brings forth incredible blooms,
and the growth of many things.
Sadly, when there is too much of a good thing,
it can be damaging.
In another week, we'll be complaining of the heat again.
We must learn to see the good in whatever comes.

The deluge.
The heat.
The storm.
The calm.

This too shall pass.
My cup is always full . . . and overflowing!
How 'bout yours?

It's ok

As I await updates about a wonderful friend who was in a motorcycle accident,
I listened to another friend list all her heartbreaking woes and worries;
I also happened upon a video made by a supermom with two sick kids;
Heard from a friend's daughter about her bout with depression;
I saw pictures from a fundraiser for a dear, sick child;
Fought my own demons about things I cannot control (see aforementioned);
And took great and grand notice from a single, poignant meme:

A little duckling, all alone, head down, plowing ahead:
"It's ok to not be okay . . .
some days are just harder than others"

It is ok.
Just don't dwell there.
Have your hard day.
Cry, Rant, Scream, Stomp your feet.
And then move on.

It's ok!

Sticktoitivity

Otherwise known as perseverance, tenacity, determination.
It is a core element in a successful life.

A million years ago, when I was a young adult,
I was working three jobs and training to be an aerobics instructor.
In my spare time, I was lifting weights and dabbling in body building.
Now . . . after all these years . . . I'm not delusional enough
to believe I will get back to THAT shape,
but I am determined to be fit and physically menacing again.
I beat myself up just about every day.
I eat pretty healthy.
I push myself to near exhaustion.
I sweat like you cannot imagine.
And I enjoy every minute of it.
If I want it, I have to endure the journey.
If I'm lucky, I'll enjoy it.
I've got tons of sticktoitivity.

Do you?
What are YOU trying to do?

Honest Abe

Mr. Lincoln said:

I have an irrepressible desire
to live till I can be assured
that the world is a little better
for my having lived in it.

Thank you, sir,
for stating what I wake up thinking
EVERY morning!

We Are

We are what we believe we are.

CS Lewis' quote is spot on.

If you think you will fail, you will.
If you think you won't matter, you won't.

If you believe you can make a difference, you can.
If you believe you are worthy, you are.

Don't ever let the words or actions of other people
define you as a being.
YOU are in charge of you.
You matter.
You are important.
You are incredible.

Dance

Today is National Dance Day!

Now, some of you might think
that you've got nothing to dance about.
I disagree!

If money is tight, do the hustle!
If you take one step forward and two steps back,
you're doing the cha cha.
If your bank account is full and then it's empty,
you're doing the electric slide.
If you've got to get away quick,
you're doing a jig!

Just keep moving!
Dancing is good for the heart and soul.

Be well!
Dance!

Inch by Inch

I've long used the expression, "You can't eat an elephant in one bite."
Don't really know where that came from, but
basically it means you've got to tackle your issues in baby steps.

Each day, each hour, each minute, each second.
Each heartache, each setback, each hurdle, each pain.
Fix what you can today.
Tackle a little more tomorrow.
Inch by inch.
Before you know it,
you will find yourself miles from where you began.

You've got this!

Humble Pie

One of the best lessons learned
from dealing with my son's disease
and my daughter's ailment
is to ask questions of those that know.

To understand that you do not know everything,
to realize you are faced with things that are beyond your control,
to accept that other folks are better equipped to help you
is the tastiest Humble Pie you'll ever digest.

You are not less.
You are not ignorant.
You are not stupid.
You are learning, educating, understanding.

Humble Pie should be on everyone's diet plan.
Eat up!

The 3 R's

Rest
Relaxation
Ridiculousness

Every now and again one just needs to recharge.
You need to stop and remember laughter and silliness.
You need to realize the blessings around you.
You need to reprioritize what really matters.

Enjoy your R's!

Acceptance

There is so much talk as of late about acceptance.
And it is vital.
It is also tricky.

Acceptance means favorable reception or approval.
Sounds good and sounds right.

We should accept one another without thought to:
skin color
ethnicity
beliefs
appearance

Not just because someone is in agreement with yours.

Let's try harder.

My Ch-Angel Nancy

Beside family, my earliest Ch-Angel recollection
easily goes to my Ch-Angel Nancy.
She kept the bullies at bay on the school bus.
She listened to my woes.
She laughed at my silly jokes.
She enveloped me into her family (like they needed any more people).
She was with me since I can remember ~ elementary school
and probably before then.
She went to Sunday school with me.
We eagerly re-connected thanks to Facebook and it's as if there was
never a lapse.
She supported me when my mother passed.
She's just been one of those constant, beautiful, positive souls
who grabs a spot in your life and never lets go.
And . . . I am so thankful for that.
You have no idea how grateful I am for your presence . . .
for all these many years.
I am blessed with my Ch-Angel Nancy.

Children

What precious, beautiful gifts.
Many folks believe they conceive children
to mold them into strong, capable adults.
More times than not, it is the precise opposite that occurs.
It is they that conform us!

Those tiny, innocent, remarkable beings
bring about change and strength and stamina and fortitude.
Those wee little humans
create an impact so massive as to take grown men to their knees.
It is incredible how a helpless, dependent soul
can absolutely change the world.

If you've been lucky enough to bring a youngen into the world,
God bless you. Remember your responsibilities.
Remember too that there is adoption, guidance, and teaching . . .
all parental tasks in every right.
You make a difference by being the difference to those kids.

Hug a child today.
Share some love.
It is more vital an act than you will ever know.

Today

Today is National Give Something Away Day.

How about a hand,
a hug,
a smile,
your time,
some encouragement,
your talent,
a little love?

Comfort

Comfort is a relative term.
It depends on the moment and the timing.

Comfort is a big old bowl of ice cream.
Comfort is an ice cold frothy beverage.
Comfort is the rhythmic lapping of the shoreline waves.
Comfort is a star-filled clear night sky.
Comfort is the companionship of a beautiful friend.
Comfort is listening to a child's story.
Comfort is holding someone's hand.
Comfort is the laughter of your kids.
Comfort is that smile from your spouse.
Comfort is peace within yourself.

Comfort is that zone of unconditional ease
that comes with knowing your are worthy
and surrounded by bountiful blessings . . .
no matter where you are!

Today . . . I wish you comfort.

You

By Federico Fellini:

You exist only in what you do.

Whether you are a garbage man,
a writer,
a mason,
a musician,
a teacher,
a physicist,
an astronaut,
a president . . .

be the most extraordinary YOU
you can be.

Heart

What an extraordinary item ~ the Heart.

It can be broken,
shattered,
betrayed,
split,
torn apart,
aching,
heavy.

It can be bursting with joy,
filled with love,
racing with excitement,
brimming with happiness,
beating for someone special,
bursting with pride,
swelling with adoration.

It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
Keep the happy in your heart.

I heart you!

What If

What If . . .
such a debilitating phrase.

What If I fall?
What If you fly!

What If I fail?
What If you succeed!

What If I can't?
What If you can!

What If I'm sick?
What If you're not!

What If I'm bad?
What If you improve!

It is a stumbling block installed by only you.
Remove it!

Sail!

Loosely paraphrased from someone . . .

A ship, in port, is safe;
but that's not what ships are meant to do.

Get out there.
Mess stuff up.
Make mistakes.
Try again.
Fail.
Do it again.
Change course.
Hold on.

Sail, baby!
Sail!

Size does matter

Mr. Shakespeare offered this beautiful quip:

and though she be but little,
she is fierce.

I could ramble for most of the day about
the plethora of ways this could be construed,
or for which dear folks this could envelope.
Instead . . . let your own little mind wander.

You might even come back to your self.

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Clarity

Sometimes,
when you remove yourself - if even briefly -
from a bad situation, you can see things more clearly.
You can filter the nonsense from the pertinent;
the negative from the positive;
the draining from the productive,
and what used to ball you up in anxious knots
will seem like nothing.

So take a moment,
dismiss yourself,
breathe,
and reexamine the issue.

Clarity is a beautiful thing.

Yes You Can

You think that hunger is far too big a problem for you to tackle.
You believe that homelessness is an issue you cannot begin to address.
You believe that hatred is far too massive for you to dent.

Can you ever make it better?

Yes You Can!

Can you donate a few cans of food to a church?
Can you cook for a sick neighbor?
Can you offer just a few dollars to a food bank?

Yes You Can!

Can you give some clothes to a shelter?
Can you offer up an unused blanket?
Can you support a business that aids those who are in need?

Yes You Can!

Can you listen?
Can you care?
Can you love?

Yes You Can!

You may not be able to solve the problem in its entirety,
but you can make a difference.
You can make your own little corner of the world a better place.
Your generosity creates ripples you know nothing about.
A giving, kind, and gracious heart
beats with a beautiful rhythm.

Yes You Can!

An Anthem of Awe

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and home of the brave

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes
What is that which the breeze, o'ver the towering steep
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and home of the brave

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Independence

As we approach our Independence Day,
first and foremost, we celebrate the military
that has allowed us that freedom.

Secondly,
independence is a privilege taken far too often for granted.
I am able to think as I choose.
Believe what I want.
Act, within the realm of the law, how I please.
This is because we are able to exercise our independence.
It is an honor and a privilege to do so.

So, while you may not always agree with me,
and I may not always agree with you,
it is that independence that makes this country grand.
Do not expect or attempt to squander that right
because you disagree with me.
And I, in turn, will allow you the rights and privileges
that you have as well.

Let us enjoy our independence.
Let us enjoy our freedom.
Let us respect it for ourselves;
and for one another.

Be safe. Be well.
Happy Independence Day!

Are you a Ch-Angel?

Do you wake each morning
eagerly anticipating what good deeds you'll partake in?
Do you share your smile?
Do you listen when others speak?
Do you bare your shoulders for other's tears?
Do you give freely of your time and talents?
Do you offer your heart to those in need?
Do you lend a hand before its requested?
Do you do these things
without even pondering or hoping for reciprocation?

Every person reading this
and every person NOT reading this
has within them the ability,
dare I say . . . the responsibility,
to do these things.

We are all Ch-Angels.
We are all capable of changing lives.
We are all able to make the world different . . .
better . . .
special.

Be a Ch-Angel today!

Good Morning!

Good Morning!

Two simple words, right?
Believe them.

You're reading this, which is a double positive:
You're on the right side of the grass and you can read.

You have the choice to make today whatever you want it to be.
Make it a Good Morning!

Something got you miffed, decide first if it really matters
and then take baby steps to tackle it; or walk away.
There is no shame is leaving behind you the things
that cause you pain and shame and hurt and sadness.

Good Morning!
Have a Great Day!

Each of Us

Each of us
has immeasurable talents.
Each of us
possesses beautiful gifts.
Each of us
is filled with love.
Each of us
envelopes kindness.
Each of us
oozes with understanding.

Your blessings are unique.
No one else offers what you can.
Share your amazing self.

Share you.

Help begins with a hand.
Understanding begins with an ear.
Sympathy begins with a shoulder.
Love begins with a heart.

And now these three remain:
faith, hope and love.

But the greatest of these is
love!

Never Too Late

George Eliot was quoted:

"It's never too late
to be who you might have been."

Now wait . . .
Go re-read that.
Seriously ponder it.

Now, go be amazing!

Life

I see folks at work who impatiently push their mom around
in a wheelchair, barking orders and yelling at her to make up her mind.

What I wouldn't do to spend just another 15 minutes with my mom.

I hear about folks not speaking to siblings because of some silly dispute
or another that really doesn't have much weight.

What I wouldn't do to talk to my brother Skip just one more time.

I hear about folks who won't see babies or deal with babies
because of some issue that occurred eons ago.

What I wouldn't do to hold sweet baby Julia again.

People . . . life is short.
Tomorrow is promised to absolutely no body.

If you care, show it.
If you miss them, call.
If you love them, tell them.
Today is all you have!

If you only knew . . .

I wish I could take my experiences
and stick them in your head.
I wish I could teach you the lessons
that only life can give.
I wish I could instill in you
the importance and vitality of your existence.
I wish I could force upon you
the knowledge that comes from trials.
I wish I could creep into your thoughts
and rearrange them for you.
I wish I could make you believe
how incredibly amazing you are.
I wish I could demonstrate
what a difference you make.

I wish I could.

If you only knew . . .

Angels

It was said:

We are, each of us,
angels with only one wing.
We can only fly
when embracing one another.

Thank you to those
who lift me up,
who soar with me,
who give me flight.

Thank you!

Safe and Comfortable

From George Eliot . . .

Oh the comfort,
the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person:
having neither to weigh thoughts
nor measure words,
but to pour them out.

This is how I feel at home.
This is how I feel on here.
Safe and comfortable with my thoughts
and my intentions.

I hope your day
is safe and comfortable.

Riches

When I was younger,
I was enthralled by the 'riches' of the wealthy.
The mansions, the luxury cars, the lavish trips,
the gaudy baubles, the ridiculous expenditures.

Now . . .
I see things differently.

I am happily married.
I have two amazingly beautiful and creative children.
I have a rescued pooch who has rescued us.
I have a house that we've made a home.
I am employed.
I live in a beautiful area.
I am surrounded by an incredible network of friends.
I am, for the most part, healthy.
I laugh daily.
I am wealthier than most.

Realize your riches.

Father's Day

There are all kinds of fathers out there.
Each is unique to his own situation.
I'm not sure how lucky I was but I had a plethora.

My real dad taught me to tackle things with tenacity.
We helped teach him the same thing.
Step-dad number one taught me, in a weird way,
to give everything 110% . . . just to prove 'em wrong.
Step-dad number two taught me to always keep looking.
Happiness is but a step of faith away.
Father-in-law taught me size is of no matter.
Love and family is as large as you make it.
Hubby . . . an extraordinary dad . . . taught me
I made an exemplary choice about 25 years ago.
He is dedication, determination, silliness, love, faith,
compassion, commitment, charm, and strength
all wrapped up in the fabulous package that is the
father of my children.

To those of you lucky enough to be a dad . . .
be a good one.
Lead by example.
Share the love.
Set boundaries for your babies
and then push them beyond them.
Play and laugh and learn and grow and share.

Thank you.
Happy Father's Day!

Leading

Whether you're the boss,
the co-worker,
or the new guy . . .
this information and its practice is priceless:

The manager maintains; the leader develops.
The manager focuses on systems and structure; the leader focuses on people.
The manager relies on control; the leader inspires trust.
The manager has a short-range view; the leader has long-range perspective.
The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why.
The manager eyes the bottom line; the leader eyes the horizon.
The manager imitates; the leader originates.
The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it.
The manager has employees; the leader has followers.
The manager mandates; the leader persuades.
The manager directs people; the leader creates teams.
The manager tries to be a hero; the leader makes heroes of everyone else.
The manager take credit; the leader takes responsibility.
The manager exercises power over people; the leader develops power with people.

Be a leader!
Build up those around you.
Go . . . lead.

That Dadgum Glass

It's like the chicken and the egg.
Is the glass half empty
or is the glass half full.
Are you the pessimist
or the optimist?
How about the opportunist!

The glass is always refillable!

Redirection

Failure is an ugly word.
It conjures up finality.
I believe more in 'redirection'.

The loss of a game
only means more preparation.
The loss of a union
only means the clarifying of its individual parts.
The loss of trust
only means resolute fortitude.
The loss of life
only means the expansion of your heart with memories.

You are not defined by failure.
You are forged into something greater, stronger, better.

If you only allow yourself some redirection.

Thanks a Million

What a beautiful surprise this morning.
I was having a rough couple of days.
Yesterday was fantastic - playing with hubby.
It led to a great morning . . .
I've hit a million views!

I am humbled that you all take the time to read my posts.
I am privileged that God gave me whatever talents I have.
I am lucky my mom and Ch-Angel Susie urged me to write.
I am thrilled to have such beautiful friends
who support me in doing what I love and enjoy.

You may have just turned my frown upside down.
Thanks a Million!

Will

Will ~
that little power inside of you
that can spur you on to amazing feats!

It's the "do one more".
It's the "try it again".
It's the "don't back down".
It's the "speak your mind".
It's the "you got this".
It's the "you are beautiful".
It's the "never quit".
It's the "yes".

It's your Will.
You can do anything!

Make it incredible

Use the good china every day
as today is all that matters.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.
The past is but a bouquet of beautiful memories.

Today . . .

Today is an extraordinary gift
not given to every one.
Embrace what it holds.
Seek out its beauty.
Breathe in its brilliance.
Bask in its blessings.
Make it incredible.

Little Angels

So yesterday I knew I would have a rough day.
I wrote before I left that I would need to focus on positives.
Whether I felt it in the air,
or just knew that I was tired and a little less than 100%,
I knew I'd need a little something extra to get through the day.

As sure as the sky is blue,
the day went about as well as I thought it might.
I was met with laziness and insolence.
I tried, briefly, to keep it together and smooth ruffled feathers.
And . . . when I realized that wouldn't work . . .
instead of wallowing in the muck with the leeches,
I removed myself from the situation.
I set myself up with a few Little Angels that helped make the day.

It started with a hug from a Ch-Angel.
Not just any hug. The sort of hug where all the bad stuff leaves
and the broken parts are squeezed back into place.
THAT kind of hug.
And then . . . another Little Ch-Angel visited me
without intent or knowing I'd need it.
And then . . . another!
And then . . . another!

When we do what we can to improve our situation,
we are sent blessings to help us.
Thank you to all my Little Angels for helping me through yesterday.
I am truly blessed!

Good Stuff

There are things that have irritated me the last few days.
Sometimes, I want to just rant.
Sometimes, I want to just yell and scream.
Sometimes, I'd like to shake someone 'til they get it.
Sometimes, I'd like to just throat punch someone.

But . . .

That sort of activity gets you no where . . . and quickly.
The negative, domineering, belittling approach
doesn't do any one any good.
It makes you look foolish and arrogant and stupid.

So . . . instead . . .

I will do what I always do and focus on the Good Stuff.

The sunshine, the ocean, the waves,
the fresh air, working up a sweat, laughing,
enjoying a good game of anything, memories,
sitting next to someone I love, holding hands, singing,
writing, reading, playing, talking to a dear friend,
finding beauty in what surrounds me, music, great food,
stories, dancing, the smell of fresh cut grass, tall trees,
creatures big and small, family, and blessings.

and more . . .

Today . . . I wish you Good Stuff!

Success

Success is a long and winding road.
(Uh oh . . .  I might break out into song!)

It is full of bumps and sharp turns and pot holes
and fallen trees and critters running in front of you
and ice and rain and wind and snow.
It is never a smooth, straight, effortless line.
You can truly grind your gears and
seriously damage your transmission.
There are detours and dead-ends,
one-ways and wrong-ways.
There are also massive highways you sometimes
feel a little lost on.

But . . .

With the proper focus,
determination,
tenacity,
grit,
and traction . . .
The journey won't defeat you.
The map is navigable.
The road leads home.
Success is attainable.

Enjoy the trip!

A Fine Line

It is a fine line between parenting and psychoses.

Do you sterilize everything you own,
or do you get them used to dirt?
Do you carry them everywhere,
or let them explore?
Do you let them try new things,
or shelter them because of your own fears?
Do you stick them in public school,
or is private the way to go?
Do you spank them just once,
or put them in time out in their room, with their iPhone, Xbox, tv, etc.?
Do you hide them from real life,
or explain as you go?

Two expressions have helped me navigate:

1. Do not deny your child a balloon, because you know it can pop.
2. Be like the bird that, halting on its flight, awhile on boughs too slight,
feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing that she has wings.

Good luck!
Teach them well.
Love them.
Watch the magic happen.

A Grand Idea

Here is just a grand idea . . .

Instead of bashing what you hate,
smack-talking what you don't like,
belittling those that disagree . . .

Cheer on what you love,
Positively promote what you're passionate about,
raise up those that agree.

A dirty mouth
and ugly actions
never helped a cause . . . ever!

Surely

It is inevitable.
You will do foolish things.
Do them with enthusiasm.
Enjoy it all.

Think

This quote by Isak Dinesen
took a few moments to really sink in.
It is lengthy and verbose,
not my usual 'thing',
but stunning and poignant all the same.

"Difficult times
have helped me to understand better than before
how infinitely rich and beautiful life is
in every way,
and that so many things
that one goes worrying about
are of no importance whatsoever."

Terribly Important

When you believe that you've tried everything,
done all you can,
claimed complete concession,
drained every ounce of energy,
are fatigued beyond belief,
when you have exhausted all possibilities,

remember this . . .

you haven't!

Ch-Angel Time

So every now and again, I get back to acknowledging the reason I started this blog.
I recognize those Ch-Angels, those people who make a real difference,
for simply existing and doing what comes naturally to them.
Today, I am giving a big shout out to my Ch-Angel LMR.

I have no idea what I did to deserve this bundle of energy and love,
but I'm sure thankful God stuck her in my path.
She has been an instant friend; a confidant; a supporter; a cohort; and just
fabulous company.
She's made work and life, in general, a thousand times more enjoyable.
She's shared from her heart; ranted from the depths; and boy have we laughed.

When counting my blessings,
I count my Ch-Angel LMR several times.
Thank you!

Travel Well

From Beverly Sills:

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going."

Meaning . . . ?

To me, sometimes the journey may seem like you
ought to receive hazard pay,
but the view from the apex is breathtaking.
Life's journey is not always smooth.
It is filled with potholes and mountains and desserts and storms.
But each of those, in their own right,
is a lesson, an expedition, a voyage.

Take advantage of whatever is in your path.
There is beauty in every thing.
Lessons in every outing.

Enjoy the trip!

"Map out your future,

Thrilled to have a drink!

Some folks whine because roses have thorns.
I am thrilled that thorns have roses.

Some folks complain about the afternoon deluges.
I revel in the morning sunshine and the evening light show.

Some folks whimper with every ache and pain.
I am thankful that I am able to feel each one.

Some folks grumble about work, work, work.
I am pretty grateful that I have a job.

Some folks are dismayed at the aging process.
I am blessed for being gifted another day.

How will you face your time here?

Half Empty?
Half Full?
Thrilled to have a drink!

Memorial Day

A day to reflect and remember and celebrate
those who have chosen to take up arms and stand up for our freedom.
A day to acknowledge those brave souls
who chose honor and country before themselves.
A day to respectfully and reverently recognize
so many for their sacrifices of time, health, and even more.
And to those that continue to do so.

God Bless You!
Thank You!

We are all given gifts.
We are all given talents.
Some of us know immediately what they are.
Some of us search a little longer to find them.
When you realize your opportunity . . .
Just Do It!

Follow your dreams.
Beat a path through whatever stands in your way.
Stay focused.
Stay driven.
Stay determined.
You are unique and amazing.
Share yourself with the world.

Be Bold.
Be Daring.
Take That Step.
Just Do It!

Surrounded

I was most hesitant about yesterday.
An early, busy morning; followed by a lengthy shift at work;
hectic afternoon; and then a most incredible evening!

Not only was I accompanied by my son
to a function celebrating volunteering for children,
but I spent a block of time with a beautiful Ch-Angel Ann
who ~ whether no filters or no profits ~ is sheer genius
and complete and unconditional love. What a treat.
The function surrounded me, literally, by a table of
beautiful souls in a room of mostly genuine, giving, selfless people.
It is truly magical what folks can do when they
come together to do the right thing.

Surround yourself with Angels
and you'll be amazed by the blessings you will see.

Have a beautiful day.

Happiness

Today's little inspirational tidbit comes from Aleksei Peshkov.
When I first read it, I really liked it.
Something hooked me.
As I sat and thought about it, it enveloped and encased me.
THIS . . . is good stuff!

"Happiness always looks small while you hold it in  your hands,
but let it go,
and you learn at once how big and precious it is."

Share.
Happiness is exponentially infectious!

Move Along

So, as is usually the case, in the midst of conversing
and listening and trying to help a friend . . .
I have helped myself.
What a wonderful thing.

She wanted to know why people behave a certain way.
She wanted answers for their poor and despicable choices.
She wanted closure before allowing their betrayals to dissipate.
Today, I was going to post something directed at a specific someone, to make a point.
To create a statement.
To try to alter their thinking, their behavior, their choices.

I said to my dear friend,
'What difference does their behavior make?
Does it really matter to you and your situation?
Wouldn't it be better to surround yourself with positivity
instead of sinking in the mire that is their existence?'

And so . . . I am going to listen to myself.
Evil, ugly hearted, poor behaving people . . . have a nice day.
I will move along and enjoy all the blessings and beauty that surrounds me.
I will move along and absorb the sunshine, the kindnesses,
the countless good things that come my way
and not try to understand your sad, pitiful, woeful behavior.

I will move along.
Will you?

Ties that Bind

There are so many threads that hold us to the past
and connect us to the future.

Phrases we say.
Actions we take.
Songs.
Poetry.
Art.
Memories.
Laughter.
Moments.
Love.

I am thrilled to be bound
in this web of wonder.

Enjoy your day!

From Anatole France:

If the path be beautiful,
let us not ask where it leads.

Drink in what is available to you.
Absorb the splendor.
Digest the word, the tones, the blessings.

Enjoy your day!

Babies

There is nothing quite so grand as a wee little person.
Such innocence and pure joy.
I truly have a hard time at work not stealing people's babies
just to coddle and snuggle with them.
To welcome another Ch-Angel baby into the world
is such an indefinable privilege.
God bless you baby Thor!
I cannot wait to hold you and hug you and love you!
For those of you with little ones,
enjoy the smell, the softness, the tenderness, the sounds,
the giggles, the swelling heart, the love.
Babies are gifts!
Unwrap them gently and
shower them with every earthly bit of love
and protection you possess.

Bye Bye BB

What a loss to say goodbye to BB King.
But let us not mourn his absence.
Let us rejoice in the incredible gift he gave us:

Nearly 70 years of heartfelt blues;
mentor to some of the greats;
countless albums;
his girlfriend 'Lucille';
teaching us to 'feel' the music.

The Thrill is Gone, but you will live forever.

Your Heart

One of the simplest things you could ever do
is to give freely of your heart.
It is also one of the hardest things to do.

Any person who has ever been hurt, misled,
betrayed, lied to, or broken-hearted
knows the pain associated with that free giving.

It is imperative, however,
to realize that those injuries are not permanent.

They are wounds to teach.
They are scars to remind.
They are lessons learned.

A heart exists to love,
to give,
to offer itself.
Your heart expands the more you share it.

Bravery

This is for a few folks I know
that are going through scary, rough, and turbulent times.
You are the bravest folks I know . . .

Bravery is
being the only one who knows you're afraid.

~ Franklin P. Jones

Go . . . be brave!

Mother's Day

What an interesting time.
Such a push/pull day.
Yearning for just one more day with my amazing mother,
and yet wanting to spend as much time as possible with my 'babies'.
One could be moved to tears quite easily.

For those of you whose moms are still here . . .
Call them.
Go spoil them.
Love them.
Spend time with them.
Laugh with them.
Enjoy them.

For those of you who are moms . . .
Enjoy your children.
They are precious and each is perfect in their own way.
You created something extraordinary - love them.
Laugh and love and learn together.

And there are those who are pseudo-moms.
Incredibly selfless people who give of themselves
freely and unconditionally.
You are inspiring.
Thank you!

Enjoy your day!
Enjoy what you have!
Happy Mother's Day!
