Time for a Ch-Angel!

With all the craziness whirling around us,
it is of incredible import
to acknowledge the Ch-Angels around us.
Those that put others first.
Those that are generous.
Those that are genuinely caring.
Those that lift and support others.
Those that laugh and love you.
Those that are strong despite the surroundings.
Those that keep others strong -
despite the surroundings.
Those that raise and support
good and decent human beings.
Those that discuss, not argue;
listen, not preach;
respond, not react;
support, not suppress.
The Ch-Angel whose wings are cloaked
by familial hugs
and unwavering patriotism.
The Ch-Angel whose name invokes
everything she is.
Thanks for being you Hope.

Impact

You never know.
You don't know how badly
someone needed that smile you just flashed.
You don't know how much
someone was aching for that compliment.
You don't know how important
that hug was that you just gave.
You don't know how vital
listening to that person was.
You don't know how deeply
someone was touched by your kind words.
You don't understand
how your quiet coexistence
bolsters the strength of those around you.
You don't know how inspiring
your positive thoughts and actions are.
You have no idea
of the impact that you have.
Just keep being you.
YOU is beautiful.

Purpose

Saw this quote yesterday
and simply fell in love with it.

You had a purpose
before anyone
had an opinion.

Just love it!

See the truth

The truth is simply this:

There will always be someone
who cannot see your worth.

Don't let it be you.

Kleenex and Closets

This blog is inspired by one of my most favorite Ch-Angels of all time.
You know who you are!

There are times when this crazy world
and whatever life you're living
seems to all go bonkers at the same time.
That dark cloud seems to simply hover directly overhead.
Know a few things:
1. You are not alone.
Whether figuratively or spiritually,
you are not going through this isolated.
There is someone out there
who knows your pain, who has 'been there'
and there is a Larger Entity that will never leave you.
2. Kleenex and Closets
When I faced uncertainties with both kids,
jobs, financial, social, whatever ...
I went into my closet and just sobbed myself silly.
I would cleanse my soul and exhaust my woes
and re-emerge as a whole new person.
I might not have gained a cape,
but I realized that it is okay to express myself,
to 'lost my sh*t,' to fall apart.
BUT ... that is no place to dwell -
mentally, physically, emotionally.

God made Kleenex and Closets for a reason.
You got this.
You are stronger and braver and wiser
than you will ever give yourself credit for.
One step at a time, one hurdle after the next
with your Kleenex and your Closet
never too far away.

One Broad Stroke

It seems to me that lately
there's far too many folk
who try so hard to generalize
and paint with one broad stroke.
Part of our societal problem,
what's so fundamentally broke
is you try to create an answer
with the swipe of one broad stroke.
We cannot lump together issues
under a single collective cloak
and you cannot remedy anything
with the might of one broad stroke.
If we do not sit at a table
discuss what continues to make us choke
history's doomed to repeat itself
no matter the breadth of your one broad stroke.
Destroying everything in sight
is but a fire dangerously stoked
an ineffectual tantrum
blurred with this one broad stroke.
Inequalities exist
from this nightmare we must be woke
but a different band-aid of hate does not heal
it just muddies your one broad stroke.
We must get right down to the root
clean the grease from the wheel's spoke
create a positive course ... a fragile line
instead of your harmful one broad stroke.

Sometimes

Sometimes ...
you simply need to breathe.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to listen.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to sit.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to stand.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to speak.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to cry.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to write.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to hug.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to sing.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to love.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to pray.
Sometimes ...
you simply need to walk away.

A Story

There's a story
behind those eyes;
a tale
beyond those hands;
a hurt
beneath the smile;
a question
at wrinkled brow;
troubles
in that aching heart;
history
in each cell
of
every
single
person.

Father

Sometimes,
I get a little 'jelly'
about all the 'I love my dad' posts
on Father's Day.
Although I had a varied assortment,
few stand out.
Number one drank.
He failed at fathering, but flourished as a friend.
Number two … yeah.
Instilled a lot of anger, but also tenacity and determination.
Number three was historic.
The stories and information he shared far outweighed his awkwardness.
The in-law - extraordinary.
Gave tirelessly, selflessly, lovingly all the years I was blessed to know him.
The countless Ch-Angel father figures
who stepped in, stepped up, guided, listened, taught, hugged, helped -
Lenny, Conrad, Harold, Tom, Jon, and many more -
thank you for every step you walked with me.
The father of my children … priceless!
I could not ask for anyone more loving, caring, devoted, dedicated, stable.
And to The Father ...
I am graced with your guidance and ceaseless love.
You gave me many opportunities to learn and grow.
I am thankful for your steadfast and solid arms around me.
To you all ...
Thank You
and enjoy the day and weekend that we celebrate you!

Ch-Angels

Ch-Angels:
Those that give,
to exhaustion,
of their time, talent, self,
without want nor need
of recognition
for the betterment and benefit
of others.

They are such rare and special folks
I do hope you find a few
in your days
on this big blue ball.
I am overwhelmingly appreciative
for those
that have touched my life.

Thanks Chief

A quote I felt worth sharing
by Chief Seattle:

Humankind
has not woven
the web of life.
We are but one thread
within it.
Whatever we do
to the web,
we do to ourselves.
All things
are bound together.
All things
connect.

An outstretched hand

(a Lyn Marinello original)

A single raised and fisted hand
whose current use is race oppression
hundreds of years of being debased
daily angst and fear and suppression;
or could it be used to represent
the LGBTQIA
and their lack of complete acceptance
validity in the day to day;
perhaps for all of the females
who are beaten and battered and raped
overtly aware of mundane surroundings,
what they wear, how their hair may be draped;
maybe it's for the children
abused, neglected, exchanged
bandied about like yesterday's trash
by predators clearly deranged;
perchance it's for the babies
aborted for birth control
literally ripped apart while alive
a human unworthy of being whole.
All these rights worth fighting for
are tragic in their own clear way,
a single raised and fisted hand
sure has a lot to say.
But perhaps there is another choice
that conjures a whole other realm
an option that allows for positive change
to be squarely at the helm;
an image of hope and care, concern
an unconditional display of love
the proverbial and much cliched
olive branch held beneath the dove;
a symbol of hoping and helping
of support, of kindness and trust
that elusive dream of inclusion
that things can be equal and just;
instead of inciting division
demanding instant change to make things right
let's bring to the table some chatter
discussion and plans that might end the plight.

Instead of the raised fist of power
let us come to truly understand
there's so much more that you can do
with the promise of an outstretched hand.

Broader, Better

You cannot change the past
by destroying things
and removing statues.
Sometimes, the past is ugly.
Sometimes, the past is horrific.
Sometimes, the past is
something to teach about,
something to learn from,
something to educate by,
something to grow from,
something to not be or do again.
We can, however,
come together,
peacefully and intelligently,
to start today
and bring about
a broader, better tomorrow.

+

Plus.
This tiny little symbol
can be so vital,
so integral,
so powerful.
It can mean "to add".
It can mean "also".
It can mean "positive".
But without
that little stand up "I"
it means
an entirely different thing.
Be that 'stand up "I".'

Off grid for a couple of days.
Really ...
be that stand up "I".

Measure up?

There is a depth
to kindness
that cannot be seen.
A breadth
to acceptance
that cannot be measured.
A height
to passions
that cannot be contained.
An omnipotence
to love
that cannot be stopped.

Here's Your Sign

No Foxworthy silliness over here.
No protests either.
Simply put - for every one -
imagine if you will
that every single person
that you meet
on any given day
bears a sign that states:

Make Me Feel Important.
Make Me Feel Worthy.
Make Me Feel Loved.

If we follow these simple directives,
oh what a world we'd live in.

Here's hoping

Here's hoping
that this week brings you
peace and hope and love and light.
Remember ...
don't treat people
as bad as they are ...
treat them
as good as you are.

With

I am not blinded by cash.
I am not impressed by titles.
I am not awed by gadgets.
I am not distracted by sparkle.
I am not astonished by power.
I am humbled by compassion.
I am honored with support.
I am ecstatic with graciousness.
I am thrilled with kindness.
I am blessed with friendship.
I am overwhelmed with love.
Don't be dazzled by the light.
Become one with the light.

Cha-Cha-Cha-os

We all enjoy different kinds of music.
I grew up listening to a varied array
of everything from swing to heavy metal
and every single thing in between.
Music is very powerful.
It can invoke stamina and determination.
It can bring one to their knees and draw tears.
It can open hearts and command pride.
It can soothe the savage beast.
It can incite and ignite and raise and praise.
What you listen to and when
makes a tremendous difference for your
mood, temperament and actions.
So how will you be dancing today?
Simply tapping toes,
jamming joyously,
hoping through hymns,
re-energizing with rock,
steadfastly slow dancing,
banging heads,
or dancing into cha-cha-cha-os?

Sunshine and Smiles

I know that this seems very contradictory
to the current times,
but if every person crumbles
the world will lay in ruins.

What sunshine is to flowers,
smiles are to humanity.
These are but trifles, to be sure;
but scattered along life's pathways,
the good they do
is inconceivable.

Go

Oh ... the journey.
It is not always paved.
In fact, sometimes it's just an inkling of a path
into a scary unknown.
It is never straight.
It is full of switchbacks, walls, cliffs and dead-ends.
You might get lost, wander, wonder,
change direction completely.
But the journey really is the destination.
What you see and who you meet,
what repels you and what inspires you,
what you learn and what you absorb,
fears you overcome and strengths you find,
will forever be hidden
if you do not ever embark at all.
Go.
