It serves many purposes.

It gives me pause to realize that this person makes the day better.
No matter what's happening, it can get better now.

It allows you a moment to realize things aren't so bad.
No matter the weather, the sun will return.

It reminds me that things aren't so bad.
The warmth of the sun is never further away
than your choosing to bask in it.
