2021

2021
by Lyn Marinello

It's just another New Year's Eve
2020, please, take your leave
chaos, mayhem, hate and fear
are welcome to walk out with this year
take with you, too, your divisive way,
and all the anger you've displayed,
the crooked cops and violent mobs
and the politicians who brought these probs
take the sickness, death, and tears
pack it away as the new year nears
let's put politics aside,
come together in single stride
toward generosity, peace and hope,
in a world where each of us can cope
where love abounds and understands
and we're not plagued with meandering demands
where ethics of the highest sense
are embraced and not some court defense
where the whole world might be color blind
and adopt the mantra of 'Just Be Kind'
wishful thinking at its best
but so much better than this unrest
so with tomorrow's rising sun
I wish you a peaceful, positive 2021

The Past

The past cannot be
changed,
forgotten,
edited,
or erased.
It must be accepted.
And learned from,
built on,
bettered,
and embraced.
We can only become stronger
when we grasp
where we've been
and find ways
to improve it.

Freedom

Saw this quote and was like, ... "Hey! That's me!"

Joy and hope are never separate.
I have never met a hopeful person
who was depressed
or a joyful person
who had lost hope ...
It is important to become aware
that at every moment of our life
we have the opportunity
to choose joy.
It is in that choice
that our true freedom lies,
and that freedom is,
in the final analysis,
the freedom to love

Choose Hope

Well, it didn't start out this way,
but sometimes I am directed truly without my knowledge.
My cover photo was about hope.
My page post was about hope.
And so ... so shall my blog.

There will always be hate.
There will always be anger.
There will always be jealousy.
There will always be envy.
There will always be bullying.
But ...

I will always Choose Hope.
Hope to show hate love.
Hope to show anger peace
Hope to show jealousy inclusion.
Hope to show envy acceptance.
Hope to show bullying kindness.

And with each bit of hope
we will diminish the negative,
we will be gracious and giving,
we will uplift and enlighten,
we will envelope and love
and that hope will spread.
I will always Choose Hope.

Yes, please

For the remainder of this year,
for the start and duration of the next,
and for many more to come ...
this!

But groundless hope,
like unconditional love,
is the only kind
worth having.

Peace and Blessings

To cover everyone and realize the Reason for the Season:

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small
And the glory of the Lord shone round about them:
Was singing without any presents at all
And they were sore afraid
He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming. It came!
And the angel said unto them,
Somehow or other, it came just the same.
"Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy,"
And the Grinch, with his Grinch feet ice-cold in the snow
"Which shall be to all people."
Stood puzzling and puzzling. "How could it be so?"
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David"
"It came without ribbons! It came without tags!"
"A Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
"It came without packages, boxes, or bags!"
"And this shall be a sign unto you;"
He puzzled and puzzed till his puzzler was sore
"Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger"
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.
And suddenly there was an angel with a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store.
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,"
Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!
"Good will toward men."

Merry Christmas!
Peace and Blessings.

Normalcy

Whenever life seems a little hectic,
a bit overwhelming,
a tad stressful,
find a tiny shred of normalcy.
An opportunity to relax,
if it only means doing a little deep breathing
in the front seat of your car
before the next meeting.
Read a book ... or an article.
Take a nap ... or simply close your eyes.
Listen to some music.
Paint or write or draw or dance
or worship or pray or laugh or converse.
A minute moment of normalcy
can fix an enormity of nonsense.
Find your center -
even if it's ragged and exhausted -
and bask in that instant.

First Hand

Through early morning mist I see
Glassy waters mesmerizing me
Pelicans perched atop pilings strong
Nestled snug but not for long
Cormorants just gliding by
Lapping waves roll in to say hi
A struggling sun defies the gray
She rises brightly to greet the day
The quiet reigns with silent clout
Til the birds begin their joyous shout
One last fog rolls 'cross the bay
The final performance of this morn's ballet
The trees upon the distant shore
Create a horizon from beautiful lore
Good morning world from nature's hand
So blessed to see it all first hand.

Goodness

There really is
an innate goodness in people.
A want
to do the right thing;
to be charitable;
to be philanthropic;
to be kind;
to be supportive;
to be human.
That may be
one of my favorite things
about this time of year.
Even in the chaos
that is 2020,
that goodness shines through
at the feet of the Babe.

The Search

Whether you are searching for
first steps,
first friend,
first job,
first accolade,
first date,
first mate,
first house ...
or the second or third or fourth,
enjoy the search.
Realize the value
of every lesson along the way.
Understand the depth
of each person and their attributes.
Relish the beauty
of every vista and each encounter.
Soak up the bounty
that you find in each smile, hug,
conversation and laugh.
Enjoy The Search.

Benefits

Sometimes,
things don't go
the way we hoped or planned.
That doesn't mean
we failed
or we should despair.
It simply means
we've been given
a different path,
a new venue,
an alternate course,
a change of adventure.
Embrace every second.
If it hurts, learn.
If it angers, breathe.
If it expands, thank.
If it benefits you,
give the glory.
And it all and always
benefits you.

Thursday Twain-age

A little Twain-age for your Thursday:

The two most important days in your life:
the day you are born
and
the day you find out why.

Each with a purpose,
whether small or grandiose,
we are integral
and vital
and necessary.
You have a beautiful intendment.

Little Quips

A series of little quips
that always seem to soothe my soul.
Hope they help you, too.

Follow your soul.
It knows the way.

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget
how you made them feel.

There are people
who take the heart out of you.
Ah, but, there are people
who will put it back.

My brokenness
is a beautiful bridge
for others who are hurting.

I opened two gifts this morning,
they were my eyes.

Light the way for others.
We are each others' keepers.

Mosaics

No matter
what occurs in your life;
no matter
the depth or width of your woes;
ponder this viewpoint ...
you, your life, your circumstances -
they are never shattered,
they are becoming
an incredible mosaic
patterned by your triumphs,
your over-comings,
and your victories.
You might be broken,
but you are beautiful.
We are all
magical, momentous mosaics
formed by our frailties,
made more spectacular
by our hardships and healing.

The Journey

Whether you are starting life,
starting school,
starting a marriage,
starting a job,
starting a home,
starting a divorce,
starting a treatment,
starting a friendship,
starting a relationship,
or whatever ...
it is not the starting
that is so important.
It is the journey!
Embrace every second.
Bask in each moment.
Hold tight to the memories you make
and the joys that you find.
The road may be rocky,
the potholes might be monstrous,
but the destination will be worth it
and the journey
is what life is all about.

New Adventures

The world keeps spinning.
The clock keeps ticking.
And life keeps lifing.
Where we fit in
and how we respond
to the spinning,
ticking,
and lifing,
is entirely up to us.
Create an adventure
worthy of writing about.
Find the awe and inspiring
in all that you come across.
Absorb the beauty
and the smallness
and the greatness
of every single second.

Farewell Franklin

As we pack up the last of our belongings
and head for sandier paths,
I just wanted to touch on a few grand points
as we bid Farewell to Franklin!
We waltzed into a town we knew no one in.
We made friends, made an impact and
tried to make a positive difference.
There were a plethora of Ch-Angels
that crossed our paths -
I'd list them, but would not want to leave anyone out.
We loved the views and vistas,
were charmed by the critters and character,
laughed at some of the quirks,
and overcame most of the hurdles.
The rogue horse AND cow that wandered down our road,
and the cows that invaded my cabin yard earlier.
The friendly mayor that seems to be sadly selective.
The Drakes - who throw one heck of a Pumpkinfest
and decorate like nobody's business.
The mysterious silver van with yellow magnets
that everyone knows and stays very far away from.
The neighbors and co-workers and friends and faith -
it is something of true small-town, tight-knit congruity.
I will carry it with me and hope to infuse it
wherever we land.
Farewell Franklin - you've allowed us
rest, laughter, respite and love.

I might be out of blogging range for a day or two.
Please understand and know that I'll be back at it soon.

Go be that person

Came across this little nugget
and boy, howdy, did it hit home.
Much like the Golden Rule,
this mantra should be
written in stone and shared every where!

Be the type of person
that you would like to meet.

Fantastic, right?
No ...
go be that person.

Busy

This Thoreau quote,
especially in these chaotic times,
truly got me thinking.
Perhaps,
it will give you pause,
for just a moment,
to really consider its query.

It is not enough
to be busy,
so too are the ants.
The question is,
what
are we busy about?

Makes ya go ... hmmmmm.

LIBTYFI

One of my favorite acronyms!
LIBTYFI
Leave It Better Than You Found It!!!

As I reminisce
about my time in Franklin ...
I find peace in the knowledge
that I truly believe
I left it better than I found it.
I improved some work areas,
positively impacted some lives,
created a beautiful home and living space,
drew attention to the charm and beauty
of where I reside,
and will walk away with
fabulous memories and friendships.
Wherever you are,
whatever you are doing,
whatever you are dealing with,
you ALWAYS have the option of
Leaving It Better Than You Found It!
There is no need for
destruction or negativity.
Leave no footprints
but only imprints of love and grace,
kindness and generosity,
charity and peace.

Who are you?

Even though this year
has been rather ... umm ... interesting,
it has produced some
extraordinary things.
I have learned many new tasks,
found out how much nonsense I can tolerate,
realized the value of a hug,
learned that life is truly what you make of it,
birthdays with family are always best,
babies make the world a brighter place,
a good support system is crucial,
it's okay to walk away from things
that do not benefit or serve you positively,
friends, old and new, are beautiful gifts,
blessings are bountiful
if you choose to seek them out,
and a good and loving partner
is a joy beyond words and life itself,
and faith is truly powerful.
This year does not define me.
The chaos does not limit who I am.
I am me.
Who are you?

I Choose

I choose,
each morning,
to greet the day with gratitude.
I choose,
each day,
to see what is beautiful around me.
I choose,
in each person,
to realize and acknowledge the good.
I choose,
in each moment,
to seek the positive and affirming.
I choose,
each hour,
to fill it with communication and laughter.
I choose,
each night,
to pray for others,
to seek His guidance,
to acknowledge my blessings,
to be thankful for everything,
to express my gratefulness.

What do you choose?

Find and Share

Find peace
amongst the chaos.
Find joy
amid the pain.
Find strength
within the hardship.
Find love
within His reign.
Share peace
when you see struggle.
Share joy
in each victory.
Share strength
when there is sorrow.
Share love
with all abundantly.

Let's Not Go Dark

So I was reading a book of poetry
penned by a very old and dear friend.
Certain lines of certain poems
truly struck a nerve.
One of my favorites:
"Let's not go dark."
To me, these four words,
speak volumes.
Fear not ...
No matter the circumstance,
there is hope.
Despite the battle,
be a fighter.
In a world full of darkness,
be the light.
You might only be hanging
on by a thread,
but that thread's attached
to the hem of His robe.
Hatred and anger
is never the answer.
We are a beacon
for one another -
guiding each other
toward better things.
Let's not go dark.
Shine on.

Inspire someone ...

Inspire someone
to be kinder,
to be gentler,
to be compassionate,
to be hopeful,
to be happy,
to be adventurous,
to be self-confident,
to be smarter,
to be enabled,
to be fair,
to be giving,
to be wiser,
to be prayerful,
to be honest,
to be loving,
to be better,
to be consistent,
to be philanthropic,
to be brave,
to be bold,
to be beautiful,
to be
themselves!

Family is Everything

The ebb and flow of family
is an extraordinary thing
if you take a moment
to truly absorb it.
Birth and growth,
achievements and set backs,
hurdles and highlights,
marriages and divorces,
survival and loss,
pain and perseverance,
new birth and new brides,
new grooms and new growth,
boyfriends and girlfriends,
broken hearts and bonded vows,
last breaths and first words.
To be present in each moment
is a gift, a joy, a blessing.
To make memories
and be engrained within them
is just a beautiful grace.
Enjoy what you are surrounded by -
intertwined by blood
or simple sincere inclusion -
Family is Everything.

You're Welcomegiving

What follows "Thank You"?
Should always be "You're Welcome".
Today really is You're Welcomegiving!
So ... get out there
and do your share
to follow through.
If we've much to be thankful for,
there is much to 'you're welcome'.

Walking Each Other Home

Walking Each Other Home
by Lyn Marinello

We are born into an unknown morn, placed in outstretched arms
Showered in love and attention; protected from all and any harms
Taught to speak in kindness; to walk tall in faith and pride
In God's commandments and the Golden Rule eternally abide
In teenage years we might rebel and push the envelope we're in
Dye and pierce and smoke and drink; to parental-fatigued chagrin
We seem certain to known everything, til one day we find we don't
Those 'friends' we thought would have our back, simply can't or simply won't
And we once again find comfort in that envelope we left
We are unconditionally welcomed back, defeated and a bit bereft
College and adulthood open avenues unknown
One foot based, one set to bolt; we are stepping out on our own
Yet there's safety in the holidays, surrounded by familiarity
Re-grounding, reconnecting in sweet comfortability
As we age we find our way; unique to every single soul
Surround ourselves with good support; those folks who truly make us whole
Our blanket of security is tattered through the years
Patched by those around us as they comfort us through our tears
There are jobs and opportunities; sight to see, trails unexplored
Losses to be overcome and faith to be restored
Sometimes the road gets bumpy, life's potholes take a toll
We retreat to those we know and trust and they step up in their role
We wander through our highlights; stroll down memory lane
Realizing those connections are sometimes all that kept us sane
Take care of those around you; compliment, uplift
Your days on earth - unnumbered; every second is a gift
As the dinner bell rings on life; feast with loved ones at your table
Serve hope and faith to all who dine whenever you are able
And afterwards, enjoy dessert; and the company of those at hand
Savor the richness of both those things and try to understand
That the sun will set for each of us, no matter where we roam
We are our brother's keepers and we're just walking each other home.

Thankful

It is said
to be ceaseless in prayer.
I believe
in addition to that,
we should be ceaseless in our gratitude.
Thankful for each morning.
Thankful for another opportunity
to do a good and kind deed.
Thankful for the beauty around us.
Thankful for the gift of family -
which is not always related.
Thankful for support and understanding.
Thankful for learning and growing.
Thankful for our God-given gifts.
Thankful for one another.
Thankful for faith.
Thankful for hope.
Thankful for love.
Thankful for you.
Thankful!

Differences

Just because
I disagree with you,
doesn't make me wrong.
Just because
I see things differently,
doesn't make me inept.
Just because
I value things in
an altered order than you,
doesn't make my values
any less important.
State your case.
Make your point.
Move on.
I don't have to eat
what you're serving.
Nor do you
have to dine at my table.
But we can all feast together.
Our differences
do not need to make us enemies.
Indeed,
our differences are what drive progress
and positive change.

Love

I may have posted about this before,
but I think it's important,
especially in these times,
and in this moment,
to remember this:

You owe yourself
the love
that you so freely
give to others.

Saturday, November 21, 2020

Some things ...

Some things to remember -
today, this month, and always:

Enjoy Every Moment.
The good, the bad,
the gorgeous, the ugly,
the not-so-glamorous,
the dirty and messy,
the inspiring and the draining.
Be courageous enough
to break the patterns in your life
that no longer serve you;
and to stay committed to your dreams
although flexible in your approach.
Know that some battles are too big
to fight alone -
and it's okay to ask for help.
Never think that you
are insignificant;
there is someone out there
that precisely needs
to hear your story.
Be kind
and
you will always
be beautiful!

Be That Guy

Be That Guy!
You know,
the reason that someone feels
understood,
supported,
welcome,
worthy,
valued,
heard,
seen,
loved.
Yeah ... be that guy!

From the Prince of Preachers

Charles Hadden Spurgeon said:

A good character
is the best tombstone.
Those who loved you,
and were helped by you,
will remember you
when the forget-me-nots have withered.
Carve your name on hearts,
not marble.

Wait ...

Carve your name on hearts,
not marble.

Dang, people.
That's some good stuff.

Warmth

Warmth.
It is found in
smiles,
hugs,
conversations,
phone calls,
cards and letters,
held hands,
silent coexistence,
laughter,
faith,
friends,
family.
I wish you
warmth.

Today

Today.
Today matters.
Far too often
we are limited and hesitant
to do things,
to say things,
to try things.
When will there be
a perfect time?
Compliment the beautiful.
Bask in the moment.
Give it a shot.
Take that hike.
Smile at a kind word.
Take it all in.
Tomorrow is promised
to no one.
Today is here,
and now.
Have at it.

The grass

There are those that think
the grass is always greener
on the other side of the fence.
If you spent more time
watering your own,
your grass would be just as green.
Better yet,
take a moment,
find a few flowering trees or bushes,
and create a beautiful hedge
so you can't even see the fence.
Focus on you, what is yours,
and how you behave.

Fired Up

So,
a Henry Ford quote:

Chop your own wood,
it will warm you twice.

Just found this
to be quite poignant.
The more
I think about it,
the more
it fires me up.

(Did you see what I did there?)

World Kindness Day

When life's got ya against the ropes,
be kind anyway.
"Friend" got ya blocked?
Be kind anyway.
Nobody seems to care?
Be kind anyway.
Troubles got you worried?
Be kind anyway.
World kinda screwed up?
Be kind anyway.
You do not need to become
what you see, hear or feel.
Be you.
Be true.
Be kind.
And maybe ...
just maybe ...
the world will see YOU
and behave a little better.
Be kind today.

and always

The Pointed Finger

So, I sat at my computer, for no particular purpose
(as far as I knew)
until this fell out of my fingers. Hope you like it.

The Pointed Finger
by Lyn Marinello

Behind the pointed finger are three more pointed back
and every hateful barb is but a disesteemed attack.
Every single insult; each undignified response
beholds an injured inner core and the scars from which it haunts.
The sneering and the taunting come from insecurities
an infantile action based in self-obscurities.
The need to draw attention when the moment's surely passed
and placing blame haphazardly is a role that's certainly miscast.
Behind the pointed finger there's so much venom in your stance;
such resentment in your actions; motivation-filled askance.
Face the foes that mock you instead of taking wild jabs
and find a way to heal instead of picking at your scabs.
I've never caused you harm and you've never threatened me
I do not understand the hate that has muddled what you see.
Abhorrence is a heavy weight to bear within one's soul.
Revenge is never sated; it's a ceaseless, unquenched toll.
And with that pointed finger and its accusatory waste
there is no purpose served; it's just good energy misplaced.
An existence based on battle is lost before it begins.
There is never to be a victor; no one ever wins.
Differences exist but similarities abound.
You choose to see the former but the latter's what I've found.
Appendages, in my opine, in all the uses they've conveyed
were never meant for pointing, but instead to offer aid.

Thank You

So it is said that "The Great War" ended
with the signing of
the Treaty of Versailles in June of 1919,
but the fighting ceased seven months earlier
when an armistice when into effect
on the eleventh hour
of the eleventh day
of the eleventh month.
For that reason,
November 11
is generally regarded
as the end of
"the war to end all wars."

Wouldn't that be amazing?!
Thank you to our Veterans.
Our freedoms and liberties exist,
because of you.

Shine

If you cannot see the sunshine,
be the sunshine.
If you see someone without a smile,
give them one of yours.
When you've found a cold soul,
warm them with your grace.
When you find a shattered heart,
share a piece of yours.
When one can't speak the words,
use your voice to help.
If hate consumes the space,
plant some love.
When one's spirit is crushed,
remind them of their worth.
When one has lost their joy,
give them some of yours.
If the world seems rather dark,
shine.

Monday, November 9, 2020

Silence

Silence
isn't empty.
It is
full of answers.

I did not create this,
but I love it
and believe it.
In that quiet stillness
is the voice of God,
on the wind,
in a smile,
through a prayer.

Tapestry

Tumultuous times
make tenacious people.
Taking what is mine,
doesn't make you richer;
it makes you a thief.
Earning what you make
makes you want to work harder.
Giving of your time and effort
allows you the opportunity
to bless the lives of others.
There are a zillion ways
to express one's self.
Find a positive one.
We are minute
in a grand galaxy.
Each playing a vital role -
integrally linked to one another -
in a complex fabric
of incredible beauty and durability.
Unravelling and fraying
is a dangerous activity
for the tapestry we're part of.

A little early for Rudolph, but ...

This is from Wilma Rudolph, so, it's ok.
:-)

Never underestimate
the power of dreams
and the influence
of the human spirit.

We are all the same
in this notion.

The potential for greatness
lives within each of us.

Have a fantabulous day!

Passing Through

Dedicated to my Ch-Angel, Judy.
Thanks for sparking the fire to write this.
It's a little long, but incredibly worth the read.

Passing Through
by Lyn Marinello

Out for a walk, I found myself, at a large park near my home.
A little old man, alone on a bench, caught my eye whilst I did roam.
I watched him from a distance. He'd occasionally smile or laugh out loud.
I felt a little sorry that he might be lost in a dementia cloud.
Before I knew where I was headed, I stood in front of his wooden seat.
"I've seen you hear before," I said. "I thought we'd finally meet."
His cloudy eyes of blue looked up. A wrinkled hand patted weathered slats.
"Have a seat. I've seen you, too." And so began a most extraordinary chat.
"It's a beautiful day outside today." I spoke in a stiff, uncomfortable voice.
"Sure is!" he said quite gleefully. "So glad you're out! What a wonderful choice!"
I smiled at his positivity; asked him how he was doing today.
"I'm enjoying the sun and watching the birds. And how are you, if I may?"
Taken aback by his interest, the shock must have shown on my face.
He gently touched my arm and said, "My apologies if I was out of place."
I couldn't help but answer, "Not at all, but why would you ask?"
"We're sharing a seat and a moment. If I can help, I'm up to the task."
Any bit of apprehension simply lifted its weighty veil.
"I can't find work, my marriage is stressed, life just seems kind of stale."
He stared off into the woods. I thought perhaps he did not hear.
But after a bit, he turned and spoke in words quite eloquent and clear.
"Sir, work will come, I'm certain. Perhaps, expand your view.
And if you've got a marriage, you are blessed in all you do.
You see you have a purpose; someone you love, and provide for too.
Life is whatever you make it. It's all in your point of view.
Things aren't stale, as you stated. When's the last time you went on a date?
Enjoyed the world around you? It's really never too late."
And with a deep breath, he turned again, finding joy in a flitting bee.
And it was like a new awakening as his words washed over me.
"Are you married?" I inquired. "I was," was his reply.
"I'm sorry," I said with true remorse. He smiled and asked me why.
"My wife of nearly 60 years filled my heart and life with glee
I don't dwell on her passing, but rather the life she shared with me.
She gave me several children. We shared many a laugh and tear.
I held her hand. She held my heart. She knew the man beneath the veneer."
In disbelief I listened. Such profundity so close.
I found myself transfixed. I was totally engrossed.
"I worked a couple lengthy jobs. Some time off with due concern,
But every door I entered held a lesson for me to learn.
Believe me when I tell you, son, life's a bumpy, ragged road.
It's not about the vessel you take, but who helps you carry the load."
For a moment we sat in silence. His gaze focused on skittish squirrels.
Before I could ask the question, he spoke, "Two fine boys. Two beautiful girls."
I asked how old they were. He smiled, "All married with kids of their own.
Even got a couple of grandkids - the gems of seeds that I have sown.
And how 'bout you, a sturdy lad, have you any offspring yet?"
"My wife's expecting, a boy and a girl, twins." "Fantastic! A matching set!"
Floored by his response, I gently reminded this man.
"I just told you, I'm unemployed." He smiled, "Life doesn't always go as planned."
"How will I provide? How will I make ends meet?"
"Sometimes," he said, "you work best on your knees, not on your feet.
You've got to have faith in yourself. You seem smart and able and apt.
When faced with tribulations, you've got to overcome, adapt."
He laughed at a passing puppy quite tangled up in his lead,
And the antics of the owner as he tried to get him freed.
"Life," he resumed, "will find a way. That's a dinosaur movie line."
"Didn't turn out well for the dinosaur." "Nor the man that fiddled with God's design."
Although I was completely sarcastic, his words cut right to my very core
He noticed my pain and spoke again, "Your attitude is everything. Amend it, I implore.
Take count of all of your blessings; numerous, I bet. Have you tried?
Life's not defined by a bank account. Wealth's measured by those at your side."
The weight of his words nearly crushed me. And yet, somehow, I felt enlightened.
A few simple words from a little old man and every one of my senses seemed heightened.
I turned to him, eyes glistening. "I'm not sure how to properly thank you."
"You already have, my dear young man. Isn't the sky an amazing blue?"
And I leaned back and took a long look at a beautifully clear azure sky.
At puffy white clouds and chipmunks at play and the clasped hands of those walking by.
The chirping of my cell phone brought the moment to a bittersweet end.
I excused myself and answered and could barely comprehend.
I thought it might be my wife, but it was from a job to which I'd applied.
A better offer than what I'd hoped; vacation and benefits supplied.
Overwhelmed, I shared my joyous news. He simply grinned and said, "You see?
A change of view changes so much more. I'm so glad you ran into me."
Humbled by his kindness. Inspired by his wit and grace.
"I'm just a few moment's walk from here. Would you like to come back to my place?
My wife would love to meet you. I've got to share this news."
"You go ahead, enjoy the day. I've got to shuffle these old shoes."
"I'd love to come and meet again; enjoy another chat with you."
"Young sir, my work is done right here. I'm simply passing through.
But sometime in the future, you may meet a beaten, battered soul.
Return your thoughts to this old bench; take your turn and make him whole."

When one door shuts ...

So,
when faced with some difficulties,
you learn to adapt and overcome.
It's not just for those Marine guys.
Any living person can do it.

Our internet
is just as kerflunkled as can be,
so ...
what did I do at 4 am?
Why,
I finished the poem I started a week ago.
Soon, I will share.

When one door shuts ...

Still Love You

So,
today ...
I may vote for Biden.
I may vote for Trump.
I may vote for third party.
I may stay the heck away from the polls.
But,
tomorrow ...
I will still be the same me I've been for 54 years.
If you loved me when I was young,
love me tomorrow.
If you loved me yesterday,
love me tomorrow.
If you base your relationships on voting choices,
I am very sorry for you,
but ...
since I loved you yesterday,
I will
still love you
tomorrow.

God bless America!
Land that I love,
stand beside her
and guide her
through the night
with a light
from above.

Goethe-ic Halloween

Who is the happiest of men?
He who values
the merits of others,
and in their pleasure
takes joy,
even as though
t'were his own.

WIF

WIF!
I learn this lesson
almost daily.
Most of us try to tip the scales;
sway the outcome;
bribe the barbarians;
make things happen.
But when we learn to WIF -
Walk In Faith -
truly and completely,
we understand
that those battles are not ours.
They're already fought.
We are destined -
each for our own greatness,
in ways we cannot imagine,
for a much grander purpose.
WIF away, people!
WIF away.
WIF!

I Can Promise

I cannot promise
to solve all your problems,
to heal all your pains,
to fix all your issues,
to amend your ailments,
to pay off your debts,
to mend your broken heart,
to make everything better,
but ...
I can promise
that I will be here
to see you through
each and every one
of those issues and more.
I can promise
that you will not
have to
scale those mountains
alone.

The key

So,
not quite sure
why this sits so heavy
on my heart this morning.
Perhaps someone really needs it.
And so ... I share.

The wound
is not your fault.
But the healing
is your responsibility.

We have all been hurt,
injured, broken, betrayed.
It is a lesson - not a life sentence.
Your reaction is the key.

What a Day

What a day!
If you're around to see today,
you've been gifted
with the chance to do amazing things.
Today is
Make A Difference Day.
Although we should strive to do this
every day,
we tend to follow guidelines much better.
So ...
get out there ...
Make A Difference.
It doesn't take mounds of money.
It doesn't take tons of time.
It takes a gracious, giving heart
and the selfless desire
to see someone else happy.
What a Day ...
go,
Make A Difference!!!

Have at it!

Normally, I busy my early mornings, with a positive photo for Facebook,
a scroll through friends and family, an upbeat message (most of the time) to begin the day,
and then something meaningful for the blog.
On occasion,
my blog becomes my post or my post becomes my blog.
Today ... the post finds its way over here.
Hope you enjoy ~ both the blog and the day.

While a lot of us would like to win the lottery,
it is in the priceless small acts of others
that we find our greatest windfalls.
Tiny tidbits of kindness,
beautiful bliss bombs,
simple gracious compliments
that find their way directly to your heart.
Once you begin to realize them,
you seem to find a multitude.
The richness of life is in the depth of the beauty
that you, yes YOU, find in it.
Don't wait for it to be
handed to you, gifted to you, or portioned for you.
It is there for you
to receive each and every day.
Have at it!

Continue the Ripple

In chatting with one of my favorite Ch-Angels yesterday,
there was an inquiry about sharing one of my posts.
Since I was sharing someone else's quote,
and it seemed to strike a chord with both of us,
in a positive and productive manner,
why not continue the ripple?
When someone shares a smile,
it may be all they have to give.
Continue the ripple.
When someone provides you a blessing,
continue the ripple.
When you are gifted with grace,
continue the ripple.
When light shines upon you,
continue the ripple.
You have no idea how far and wide
those little ripples may travel
and how much good
a simple smile does.
Continue the Ripple.

OMG This!

Mr. Adams is a wise, wise soul.
This quote belongs to him.
Thanks, George.
Here's hoping that a lot of folks,
a tremendous amount even,
take heed of your words.

Encouragement
is
the
oxygen
of
the
soul.

Possible

Be kind
whenever it is possible.
It is always possible.
Be generous
whenever it is possible.
It is always possible.
Be compassionate
whenever it is possible.
It is always possible.
Be loving

It is always possible.

Dirt

Of all the paths
you choose
to take in life
be sure
a few of them
are dirt.

Moments

If you are gifted
with the morning sun,
that is a beautiful moment.
You have a deliberate choice
each day
to celebrate moments,
big and small,
grand and minute,
tenuous and chill,
breathtaking and blasé,
challenging and triumphant.
Take nothing for granted.
Every second is special.
Take your moments
and make memories.
Live, love, laugh ~
always!

Find Your Voice

I am embellishing what was today's zodiac blip.
It seemed to me, more about every body, than just us Leos.
I hope you're able to find a little wisdom in it:

Finding your voice
in a world chock full
of screaming people
is no easy feat.
Remember, though,
that your task is to discover
the most unique aspects of yourself
and work tirelessly
to share them with the rest of the world.
You are here for a reason,
a purpose.
You are a gift.
Find Your Voice.

Beautiful People

This is not mine, but very much worth the share.

The most beautiful people
that we have known
are those
who have tasted defeat,
known suffering and struggle,
ached in longing and loss,
and have found their way
out of the depths.
These persons have
an appreciation,
a sensitivity,
and an understanding of life
that fills them with
compassion,
gentleness,
acceptance,
and a
deep loving concern.
Beautiful people
do not just happen.

Don't Be A Bully

Today is National Stop Bullying Day.
Some folks truly need to
rethink and re-prioritize
the things they say and do.
Here's a bit of good medicine for ya
(not mine):

My friends,
love is better than anger.
Hope is better than fear.
Optimism is better than despair.
So let us be
loving, hopeful and optimistic;
and we will
change
the world.

A Thin Blue Line

In honor of Lenny, Conrad, Herb, Edie, Justin, Dylan and so very many more.
To your spouses and families, too, my love and deepest respect.

A Thin Blue Line
~ by Lyn Marinello

Perhaps it is a heartbeat stretched ridiculously tight
Choose so unselfishly to take an oath to do what's right
Maybe it's a tight rope on which they tip-toe cautiously
Defending whomever needs it with dutiful ferocity
It is the fragile-ist of fibers conducting communal civility
Risking life without regret; a choice made without apology
It's that ever-proverbial limit that is drawn within the sand
Millisecond decisions in which they have to take a stand
It's the boundary they protect but by which they're also bound
No guarantee of coming home from work, an open made when boots meet ground
A perimeter that's maintained without question or debate
Subject to threats unfathomable and a plethora of misdirected hate
The vast majority beneath that badge serve selflessly shift by shift
Blessed are the peacemakers; a real and true societal gift
In unimaginable moments they promise to protect and serve
Respect and honor and our total pride are the benefits they all deserve
For they're not paid what they're worth as they stand only to define
The law, what's right, and you and me and that incredibly thin blue line.

Clearly

Completely re-imagining a quote I read.
Wouldn't be me if I didn't.

How incredibly sad it is
that you want to be
like everyone else;
to conform;
to imitate;
to fit in;
when you are so clearly
created to be
extraordinary!

Par-tay!!!

Saw this actually painted on a stair case
and found it quite compelling.
Hope it makes you stop and
realize the blessings all around you.

Life
is the
best party
I've ever
been
invited
to.

Beyond

Beyond the storm
is the rainbow.
Beyond the heartache
is the new love.
Beyond on the loss
are the memories.
Beyond the suffering
is the overcoming.
Beyond the set back
is the triumph.
Beyond the betrayal
is the support.
Beyond the lesson
is the growth.
Beyond the beating
is the strength.
I will always do
what I can do
to focus on
beyond.

Carry It

During your lifetime
you will be hurt.
You'll be sad, but take the lesson
and carry it with you.
During your lifetime
you will lose.
You'll be beaten, but gather your strength
and carry it with you.
During your lifetime
you will be betrayed.
You'll be broken, but find inner light
and carry it with you.
We will lose people -
by death and disagreement.
Don't be resentful.
Take the qualities you admire
and the memories you cherish
and carry it with you.
Don't be defined
by your shortcomings or failures.
They are simply teaching you.
Carry it with you.
You may see a long road ahead,
but realize just how very far you've come.
Be glad - you are victorious.
Carry it with you.

A Little Better

We all know that
when we are out in nature
you take nothing but pictures
and leave nothing but footprints.

Well,
here's a small addition to that ...

Always try to leave people
a little better than you found them.
Hug the hurt.
Listen to the silent.
Give with reckless abandon.
Kiss the broken.
Guide the wayward.
Lead with peace.
Befriend the lost.
Hold the raging.
Love the lonely.

Rise and Shine

There are folks
that just aren't 'morning' people.
And that's okay.
You can sleep til 2 in the afternoon
and still Rise and Shine.
It is not in the hours -
but in the effort.
What you wish to see in the world
is what you need to be in the world.
If you Rise with a grateful heart;
purposeful and positive and productive,
you will bring those things into the world
and those things will be shown to you.
If you Shine for all to see;
giving and gracious and good,
you will bring those things into the world
and those things will be shown to you.
So do not worry about the clock.
Worry about your speech,
your efforts,
your actions,
your heart.
Rise and Shine!
The world needs your beautiful self today.

Inner Child

Every single human
has an inner child
that needs attention;
support,
acceptance,
forgiveness,
kindness,
guidance,
grace,
compliments,
and love.
No matter how old you are,
your inner child is always there,
begging for your attention.
Listen to that inner child.
Entertain that inner child.
Uplift that inner child.
Empower that inner child.
Forgive that inner child.
Grow that inner child.
Love that inner child.

Wow! Just this ...

Imagine if we all did this ...
not fight, hate, blame, wallow ...

~ Erma Bombeck
When I stand before God
at the end of my life,
I would hope
that I would not have
a single bit of talent left
and could say,
"I used everything you gave me."

Smile

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile - what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth while
If you just smile
Oh that's the time you must keep on trying

Smile what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth while
If you just smile.

The American Dream

I wrote this over the past week.
Was concerned it was not positive enough to be blog-worthy.
I have been assured - it is as positive as can be.
The American Dream is ALWAYS positive.
For those that view it twice, my apologies, but feel free to share.

The American Dream
~ by Lynette Marinello

In the dank, dark, slimy corners of our Washington DC
Pacts are made, sweaty palms meet, with no regard for you and me
Pockets lined and prices paid, corruption runs amok
Secrets kept, laws tossed aside, in the name of 'deals' being struck
There is no better party, both have failed us at the base
Electoral promises are nothing but lies told to our collective face
They are puppeteers pulling strings, inciting hate from right and left
Stealing, bit by bit, our freedoms; a most egregious theft
You cannot honestly believe that 'your' side is above reproach
Both sides lie and cheat and steal - the charisma's all in the approach
Beliefs are swayed and bought, bills packed with favors galore
Neither side is free of this; just one big giant political whore
Four entire years mired in vitriolic hate
Right and wrong and left and right, a continuous ugly debate
A coddled generation based on 'self' and 'what's for me?'
Entitled, spoiled, trophy-laden, everything for free
The little orange man did not start the great divide
It's up to us, Americans, to ensure the chasm's width subsides
Remember when the news used to actually tell the news?
And weight was not afforded to what some entertainer spews
The Lady in the Harbor stood for limitless inclusion
Now she weeps in horror at all the greed and grand delusion
A peaceful right to protest is a gift of voice and might
Not an open invitation to loot and riot through the night.
America's a country in which you're free to stand or take a knee
But we've forgotten that we're also blessed with the choice to disagree
I may not believe what you believe and you may disapprove of my opine
But the differing of viewpoints does not an enemy define
For in the compromise of causes, there is always common ground
A place to begin rebuilding where we are equally yoked and bound
Greatness comes from struggles, violence blocks the path
Communication opens doors and open minds can quell the wrath
Due process is the judgement made with face and rule of law
Not swayed by your emotion or the cell-phone camera in your paw
America, America, God shed his grace on thee
Black and blue and ALL lives matter, that's true equality
We're an extraordinary country, founded in diversity
Countless overcomings with the strength of unity
So while you take a knee, perhaps you'll say a prayer
And while you stand in judgement, perhaps you'll do your share
Beyond the noise and static, patriotism reigns supreme
Stand tall, it still exists, that beautiful American dream.

National Love People Day

Today is National Love People Day.
As defined in its description:

On September 30, National Love People Day asks us
to lift others up through the profound power
of unconditional love.
The human condition is a limiting and varying thing.
How and when and where we get to use it
is vaguely and oddly defined.
What is certain is a rollercoaster-filled life
of celebrations and trials.
National Love People Day tasks us
with an understanding that unconditional love
requires a dedication most human being aren't given.
But, when we wholeheartedly love our neighbors
with steadfast devotion,
the world is a better place.
It is the practical application of
"love your neighbor as yourself."
The word "unconditional" on its own
is quite profound.
Look at its synonyms:
wholehearted, unrestricted, complete, unequivocal.
Those words are dedicated, solid, and unwavering
from their commitment to something.
There are no boundaries or limitations
with the word "unconditional."
Add the word "love," and the power of the phrase is multiplied.
So, on National Love People Day,
offer kindness and care to the people in your community
and beyond.

It is only fuel

Go ahead.
Underestimate me.
Challenge me.
Tell me I can't.
It is in those very
words and actions
that I find the most motivation.
I have heard
all kinds of negativity.
It is only fuel.
I have seen
all kinds of nastiness.
It is only fuel.
I have felt
all kinds of bitterness.
It is only fuel.
Do not be hushed or quieted,
squelched or subdued,
minimized or marginalized.
Use every bit of it.
It is only fuel.

Your Purpose

As we traverse this big blue marble,
searching for our purpose,
there is a secondary function that we fill ...

You were created
to improve the life of someone else;
somebody needs your smile,
your encouragement,
your support,
your ear,
your hug,
your love,
your gifts.

A Few Good Thoughts

You cannot do much
about the length of your life,
but you can do wonders
about its width and depth.

How beautiful it is
to stay silent
when someone expects you
to be outraged.

The true secret to happiness
lies in taking a genuine interest
in all the tiny details
of daily life.

Go expand your horizons,
control your reactions
and count your every blessing.

Every Single Step

Occasionally, remaining positive becomes difficult.
And still ... I try.

Don't wait
until you reach that goal,
until you get that job,
until you earn that degree,
until you run that marathon,
until you hit that weight,
until you score the shot,
until you write the best seller,
until you catch the big one,
until you become a star,
until you finish what you started;
be proud
of
Every
Single
Step
along the way!
You are a fighter,
a warrior,
a champion,
a winner.

Worthy of Repeating (if I am)

A quote by John Wesley states:

Do all the good you can,
by all the means you can,
in all the ways you can,
in all the places you can,
at all the times you can,
to all the people you can,
as long as ever you can.

If I have posted this before,
my apologies,
but this is my mantra,
my entire thought process,
my life.
If we all did this ...
wow!
What a difference there would be
in this world.

Wednesday, September 23, 2020

Think about this ...

Kindness is when
you loan someone your strength
instead of reminding them
of their weakness;
and we each possess the courage
to be the
happiest
healthiest
kindest
versions of ourselves.

The Moon

And if you are to love,
love as the moon loves;
it does not steal the night -
it only unveils
the beauty of the dark.

I did not write this,
but I do believe
I found it
for a reason.

Monday, September 21, 2020

Judge not

Do not judge others
until you've walked a mile
in their tattered shoes;
until you sat at their
dysfunctional kitchen table;
until you wandered around
in their tsunami of garbled thoughts;
until you stood
in the path of their troubles;
until you survived
half of what they've gone through.
There is only one judge.
Be so busy working on improving yourself,
that you've no time to judge another.

Your House

Saw this quote ...

The words you speak
become the house you live in.

Simple, right?
Yet so powerful.
Does your walkway entertain every guest?
Do you graciously open the front door,
while locking all the windows?
Do you save the fine china
for 'those that deserve it'?
Is it an open floor plan
or full of secret, dark and hidden spaces?
What you build with your speech
becomes the foundation for your future.

Speak wisely.
Speak kindly.
Build a house that truly is inviting.

One Good Deed

You need not be Mother Teresa.
You need not be one destined for sainthood.
You need not be the poster child for philanthropy.
You simply need to perform
One Good Deed.

One random act of simple kindness.
One selfless bit of beautiful behavior.
One unseen feat of uncomplicated favor.
One positive action without acknowledgement.
One Good Deed.

The repercussions and ripples
create a wave of goodness
the likes of which you may never see,
but may very well be rooted in you.
Be content in that.
Go and do
One Good Deed.

All Of This

Happened upon this
and ...
YES!

Good things happen.
Underdogs win.
Hugs help.
Love is real.
We will be okay.

Raise

A simple, embellished quote
with much power.

Raise your words,
not your voice.
It is rain
that grows the flowers,
not the thunder.
It is selfless action
that serves the need,
not the applause.
It is heroism
that spares the lives,
not the parade.

Choose Happy

By now, most of you know
that I will stand up and fight
most anything that comes my way.
I might cower at first,
I may even cry,
but go ahead ...
underestimate me ...
that'll be fun.
And even though my cup is full,
it sometimes feels
like I'm drinking from a cheese grater.
And I may seem to be a light,
but my candle has burned so much from both ends,
it's occasionally just a pile of wax.
And to some I may seem awfully strong,
but there are definitely days
when I just want to curl up with my pooch
and remember what unconditional love is.
My point is this:
Positivity may sometimes be fleeting;
Hope can intermittently feel lost;
Stress can occasionally be overwhelming;
but ...
you've always got a choice in your response.
You can choose unity.
You can choose kindness.
You can choose support.
You can choose faith.
You can choose love.
You can choose happy.

Eating Alone

I saw this quote
and was immediately
and deeply struck
by its power
and simplicity:

I know
what I bring
to the table
...
so trust me
when I say
I'm not afraid
to eat alone.

The Dickens You Say

From Chuck:

Have a heart
that never hardens,
and a temper
that never tires,
and a touch
that never hurts.

Friday, September 11, 2020

God Bless America

I will simply reiterate
what I stated elsewhere,
from a plaque I happened upon:

Through blurred eyes
we find the strength and courage
to soar beyond the moment.
We look to the future
knowing we can never forget
the past.
God Bless America!

A note to strike a chord

Coming from a very diverse musical background,
this little ditty truly tops the charts:

Some days
I need the music.
Some days
I need the lyrics.

Best Friends

You got this.
No matter what's in your way,
what you're facing,
why you're down,
you can do this.

You are smarter,
braver,
more resilient,
tougher,
more tenacious,
grittier,
grander,
bolder,
and more amazing
than you understand
and give yourself credit for.

I'm not sure who needs to read this today,
but someone must
because it was on my heart.

I hope you find your inner strength
and become best friends.

A favorite ...

Not sure whose quote this is,
but every time I read it,
I couldn't agree more.
And, perhaps,
it is more prophetic now
more than ever ...

People will love you.
People will hate you.
And none of it
will have anything
to do with you.

A Beautiful Place

A grand quote by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. to start your week (or holiday).

Be soft.
Do not let the world make you hard.
Do not let pain make you hate.
Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness.
Take pride that even though
the rest of the world may disagree,
you still believe it to be
a beautiful place.

A Pair of Ch-Angels

Y'all know I love my Ch-Angels.
Those folks that just do the right thing,
regardless of who's watching,
to make the world a little bit better.
I have been blessed with a special pair
of these beautifully cherished Ch-Angels.
Ch-Angel Lenny and Ch-Angel Conrad.
I tumbled into these two over 40 years ago.
Occasionally crass, I find that to be
one of their most endearing qualities.
They have never been anything but
loving, kind, giving, supportive, caring,
thoughtful, generous, inviting, welcoming,
inclusive, inspirational, motivational,
guiding, accepting, sincere and honest
and more.
I wish everyone in the world
had a Ch-Angels like these.
I am abundantly blessed.
Thank you!

Treat Yourself Accordingly

Never
EVER
love anybody
who treats you
like
you're ordinary.
You are
a gift,
unique,
precious
and priceless.
Be treated accordingly.
Treat yourself accordingly.

Be That Guy

Be the reason
someone feels
welcomed,
seen
heard,
supported,
valued,
understood,
included,
worthy,
wonderful,
and loved.
Be the reason
someone smiles.
Be That Guy!

A Little Irish For Ya

Today,
a little light
a little love
a little hope.

May you always be blessed
with walls for the wind,
a roof for the rain,
warmth by the fire.
Laughter to cheer you,
those you love near you,
and all that your heart might desire.

Shh! Listen ...

More times than not, we spend our time
shouting our feelings and screaming our emotions.
While this, momentarily, may release the anger,
after a while, the effect is lost and falls on deaf ears.
I was watching a program on the Shoah Foundation,
(very interesting if you'd like to research it),
in which Holocaust survivors are interviewed
and recorded to become interactive voices from the past.
Two statements that really hit home -
specifically in today's world -
were these:

Question:  What would you like to say to any Nazi's or war criminals?
Answer:  I would like to absolve them and forgive them.

Question:  Do you hate the Nazi's and their families?
Answer:  Most of the Nazi's are dead. What am I going to do -
hate their children and grandchildren? They didn't do anything.

Both had been back to their internment camps.
I believe both had lost their entire families to those camps.
The past is not always beautiful,
but that doesn't mean that we can't be.

I Am Here

As usual, found this post,
and couldn't leave it alone.
Had to embellish, just a smidge.
Enjoy!

For every fear that shakes your peace,
for every doubt that shatters your confidence,
for every ache that pains your heart,
for every night you feel alone,
for every injustice that pierces your soul,
for every loss that rattles your core,
for every moment you lose a little hope,
there is an Angel that whispers,
"I Am Here."

Spot On

Just some random snippets
that truly seem to fit all together.

The past
is in your head.
The future
is in your hands.
If you never heal
from what hurt you,
you'll bleed on people
who didn't cut you.
Don't shine
so that others can see you,
Shine so brightly
that through you
others can see Him.
Your first thought
in the morning
should be:
"Thank You"
and
inner peace begins
the moment you choose
not to allow
another person or event
to control you or your emotions.

BE

If you want to see change,
BE the change you want to see.
If you want to make a difference,
BE the difference you want to make.
If you want to see inclusion,
BE inclusive of every body.
If you want to have acceptance,
BE accepting of all people.
If you want to attain peace,
BE peaceful in your actions.
If you want to live in kindness,
BE kind in your speech and efforts.
If you want to acquire equality,
BE equal in your actions and expectations.
If we demand change and difference,
inclusion and acceptance,
peace and kindness and equality,
but behave with stagnation and mindless conformity,
division and dissension,
anger and hate and superiority,
we will never BE what we hope to BE.
BE what you were created to be.
BE extraordinary.
BE amazing.
BE love.
BE.

Just Because

Today is National Just Because Day.

So share
a compliment,
a smile,
a hug,
a task.
Just Because.

So give
your time,
your efforts,
your talents,
your support.
Just Because.

So do
the right thing,
what you can,
good deeds,
only positive works.
Just Because.

No applause.
No accolades.
No awards or neon lights.
Just
Because.

Plenty

A quote by Jack Anthony:

I have never been a millionaire.
But I have enjoyed a great meal,
a crackling fire,
a glorious sunset,
a walk with a friend,
a hug from a child,
a cup of soup,
a kiss behind the ear.
There are plenty
of life's tiny delights
for all of us.

Success

Success
is not always best measured
by wealth
and accumulation.
Rather
it is tallied
by the hands you've held,
the hearts you've impacted,
the lives you've touched,
the souls you've supported,
the memories you've made,
the inspiration you've provided,
the legacy you've left,
the love you've shared.
How successful are you?

Make 'Em Count!

There are precisely
86,400 seconds
in a day.
How many of them
does it take
to say 'Thank You'?
to say 'I Love You'?
to say 'I'm Sorry'?
to be kind?
to share a compliment?
to be positive?
to give a hug?

Make 'Em Count, people!!!

My Birthday Wish For You

You,
yes you,
you deserve
the love
you so freely give
to everyone else.

Enjoy your day.

Simple and Easy

I enjoy the people who get excited about
the beauty of a sunrise,
the change of seasons,
the sound of the ocean,
children's laughter,
watching the sunset,
a real, sincere hug,
the smell of rain,
an unexpected compliment,
a walk in the woods,
quiet connections,
slow dancing without music,
blooming flowers,
sharing a meal,
holding hands,
endless chatter with those you love,
making moments into memories,
giving,
staring at a starry sky.

Because of You

Rivers do not drink their own water;
trees do not eat their own fruit;
the sun does not shine on itself
and flowers do not spread their fragrance
for themselves.
Living for others
is a rule of nature.
We are all born to help each other.
Not matter how difficult it is ...
Life is good when you are happy;
but much better
when others are happy
because of you.

~ Pope Francis

Wise Words

From Martha:

I've learned that
the greater part of our happiness
depends not upon our circumstances
but on our dispositions.

And, from a beautiful friend's post:

"Which is more important,"
asked the Giant Panda.
"the journey or the destination?"
The Tiny Dragon replied,
"The company."

Say Your Name

If I asked you
to name
all of the things
that you love,
how long
would it take
to
name
yourself?

Live

I kind of liked this and wanted to share:

Your purpose
is not to spend your entire life
wandering around
looking for your purpose.
Your purpose is
to walk in your magic
and move in your power.
Your purpose is
to be fully alive.
That's it.
The rest will come naturally.
Stop searching and just live.

Small Things

Maybe we ought to live
for the small things,
like handwritten notes,
the soft light at day's end,
soft and gentle kisses,
rainy days curled up on couches,
unexpected chats,
fireside hand-holding,
put-you-back together hugs,
the beauty of the first snow,
or the smell of spring.
Maybe,
in the end,
it's those small things
that will mean and we'll remember
most.

For You

For You
out there, some where
that might need to read this
and reread it.

Don't take criticism from people
you would never go to for advice.

Sometimes that 'you' is me,
but I'm sure there's some other you's
that need this.

Have a beautiful day!
Remember how extraordinary you are.

Gotta Love Lord Byron

There is a pleasure
in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture
on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
by the deep sea and music in its roar,
I love not man the less,
but nature more.

Proof

Simplistic truth today:

Sunsets are proof
that endings
can be beautiful.

Enjoy your day.

Pay Attention

I love this quote ... and it's very "me".
People, pay attention ...

I understand now that I'm not a mess
but a deeply feeling person
in a messy world.
I explain that now,
when someone asks me why I cry so often,
I say,
"For the same reason I laugh so often -
because I'm paying attention."

Be you, bravely and boldly.

With Only

We have all read the quote:
Take only pictures. Leave only footprints.

Of course I can never leave well enough alone.
So ...
let me embellish ...

Let us leave this earth,
not with monuments of our accomplishments,
not with sculptures of our idolized,
not with ruins from our outrage,
not with neon names lit up;
but with only footprints of our explorations,
mended hearts we've helped to heal,
lessons we have grasped to teach,
lives we took a moment to improve,
smiles we have shared and induced,
and love we have freely given to others.

Happiness Happens

Today is
National Happiness Happens Day!
Do I really need
to say anything else?
Whether you're out there
making it happy,
or out there
just soaking happy up,
let all of the happiness happen.
The world could use
more happy.

Dear Self

 Sometimes,

in this crazy little world,

we need to take a moment

to realize our own worth.

We spend so much time

taking care of others

that we forget that

we need to take care

of ourselves.

Write yourself a note;

heck, write several.

Leave them strewn around

to regularly recollect

how important you are.

Sign it: "With Love"

and

P.S. I hope you feel beautiful today.

Mustard Seed

The straps upon my boots have snapped,
the muscles in my chin are weak.
My knees are sore and calloused;
the future seems oh so bleak.
The bright side's dimmed a bit.
My glass may have a hole.
My stem of thorns has lost its rose.
I've lost all sense of control.
Both ends of my candle have met,
the brass ring's really aluminum foil.
My get up and go, got up and left
and my blood's too congealed to boil.
Despite the odds against me,
I will carpe this diem indeed
For I never fight all by myself
I'm armed with faith the size of a mustard seed.

Be the Blessing

When in sports, we've all heard
"Be the ball!"
Well, perhaps in life, we need to hear
"Be the Blessing!"

What kind of kindness would you like to see?
What kind of hope would you like to feel?
What kind of compassion would you like to realize?
What kind of trust would you like to know?
What kind of healing would you like to accept?
What kind of joy would you like to experience?
What kind of love would you like to be enveloped in?
What kind of blessing would you like to have?

Then ...
Be that kindness.
Be that hope.
Be that compassion.
Be that trust.
Be that healing.
Be that joy.
Be that love.
Be the Blessing.

Things I've Learned

As another birthday sneaks up on me,
I tend to reflect on life -
accomplishments,
disappointments,
lessons,
values,
all that jazz.
Here's a couple of things I've learned.
Perhaps someone out there
needs to see one ... or all ... of these.
Sometimes, a fresh perspective is an amazing thing.
1. Just because he/she doesn't love you the way you'd like,
doesn't mean he/she doesn't love you with everything they are.
2. Failures and betrayals are not negative events. They are lessons.
3. The mean people are not pointing out your flaws,
they are trying to hide and diminish their own.
4. I have had scraps and I have eaten well. My table is best set
with friends and family all around it.
5. Some friends are the best family I have ever had.
6. Listen with your heart. See with your soul. Feel with everything you are.
7. Selflessness is a gift unto itself.
8. Love and time are fleeting. Grab every bit of both.
9. You can be right without screaming or making a scene about it.
10. Change is difficult, but inevitable. Be pliable, patient, and positive.
Go and have yourself an extraordinary day.

Peacefulness

Do not succumb
to the negative energy
within a space.
Instead,
influence the energy
with positivity
and peacefulness.

A Beautiful Day

A beautiful day
begins with a beautiful frame of mind.
It starts with a grateful heart
and a positive thought.
It opens the door
to opportunities and possibilities.
It offers the chance
to see the incredible blessings
and beauty that surround you.
The 'wrong side of the bed'
need not ever exist.
Allow yourself the fortuitous moment
to believe you can.
Rise and shine, buttercup,
and have yourself
a beautiful day.

PPE

No. Ugh!
Not personal protective equipment.
I'm talking about Precious People Everywhere!

A subject I'm much better equipped to speak about.
Each of us is unique.
Each of us is inspiring.
Each of us is a marvel.
Each of us has a story.
Each of us has a journey.
Each of us loves differently.
Each of us shares subjectively.
Each of us oozes individuality.
Each of us matters.
Each of us make a difference.
Each of us has talents.
Each of us sees from our own perspective.
Each of us grows from our experiences.
Each of us is brilliantly beautiful.
Each of us envelopes hope.
Each of us can change the world.
Each of us is loved.
Each of us is love.
Each of us is precious.

Go out into the world and be your precious self.
And, while you're out there,
be certain you take note of every other precious soul.
There are Precious People Everywhere!

Angels

When the world seems to be crumbling and hate does abound
I search for my Angels they are always around.
When my heartstrings feel that Godly tug
Perhaps it is simply an Angel's mighty hug.
When lost in the chaos and bitterness stings
I wrap myself in the comfort of Angel's wings.
When you are fearful from the onslaught of craze
Remember God put Angels in charge to guide your ways.
And sometimes those Angels aren't clad in white cloaks
But appear in the clothing of ordinary folks.
We've each got our halo, it dwells within our soul
When we get a chance to share it, that is when we're whole.
Rise up my Angels and guard me in grace
With you by my side there's nothing I can't face.

To Be

In a world, currently,
where you can be
anything you choose to be ...

choose

to be kind
to be generous
to be compassionate
to be honest
to be open
to be supportive
to be faithful
to be determined
to be dedicated
to be uplifting
to be hard working
to be gracious
to be humble
to be prayerful
to be pleasant
to be complimentary
to be happy
to be positive
to be encouraging
to be loving
to be respectful
to be love.

Clean and Bright

Very much along the same lines as:
"People in glass houses ..."
is this snippet from George Bernard Shaw:

Better keep yourself
clean and bright.
You are the window
through which
you must see the world.

Smudge-free.
Streak-free.
Curtain-free.
Just Clean and Bright!

Listen

If you listen closely,
you will hear the plea
in the silence of a friend.
If you listen closely,
you will hear the happiness
of a beautiful sunrise.
If you listen closely,
you will hear the joy
of the abundant blessings.
If you listen closely,
you will hear the healing
of a simple, steadfast hug.
If you listen closely,
you will hear the love
that pours so thickly upon you.
If you listen closely,
you will hear the rustle of Angel wings
encompassing you in safety.

Goody Goody

Good actions give strength to ourselves
and inspire the good actions of others.

Today

Today is here!
Isn't it glorious?
This day will never come again.
Take a moment to care.
Let your voice uplift.
Let your actions inspire.
Be a friend.
Encourage someone.
Lend a hand.
Pray for others.
Share a smile.
Do the right thing.
Lighten someone's load.
Offer guidance.
Pray with others.
Share some knowledge.
Compliment often
and for no reason.
Be a blessing.
Enjoy Today!

your arms for hugging,
your mind for truth,
and your heart for love.

Shine

I used to be afraid
of the dark
until I learned
that
I am a light
and
the dark
is afraid of me.
Shine, people.
Shine.
