As of late, I've had several people seriously complaining to me about their situation - whatever it might be. It might be their employment. It might be their schedule. It might be their health. It might be the welfare of someone they love. It might just be an opportunity to vent.
I'm all for being available. I will always be here for folks to talk to, scream at, cry on, discuss things with and just to simply coexist. I think that is vitally important in the big picture. And the big picture is what I'm asking you all to ponder.
First of all, you can complain all you want about your job, but there are gazillions of people out there that would happily and eagerly take your place. They've been searching for a long, long time. If you don't have the hours you'd like, ponder NO hours. Or ponder those salaried folks who work 80+ hours a week. If you have an ailment, please remember that there are people with much worse health issues than you. And if you're worried about sitting bedside with a loved one . . . it is much better than graveside.
The Big Picture is a broader vision. It's like putting the 13 inch black & white tv you maybe had in your college dorm a hundred years ago next to your 60 inch plasma you currently watch. The view is of the same show, but the clarity is vastly different.
I have friends who complain or are unhappy about having to go visit with their mom for an evening. I, personally, would hurt people to have that opportunity. I have friends who complain about their jobs and their paychecks, and yet they live quite nicely and comfortably in moderate homes with every amenity available to them. I have friends who are battling illnesses or injured family members and they complain about those trials and the hurdles they must overcome. Better that you are able to battle them than to succumb to no tomorrow.
The Big Picture! Be thankful for your blessings. Be vehement about your victories. Be passionate about your positives. And always remember that your current burdens may be preparing you to help someone with theirs in the future. Learn well! Enjoy the view of The Big Picture!
