2021

2021 was supposed to be better.
Better than what?
I guess it was better than 2020,
but ...
really?
However ...
perspective is everything ...
if you choose to look carefully,
there are beautiful things
that 2021 brought to us.
It taught us to slow down,
to reconnect - on a plethora of facets,
to pause and reflect,
to mourn loss with dignity,
to welcome new love and new life,
to try to things,
to tackle new tasks,
to not just be outside of our comfort zones,
but to actually be outside,
to enjoy one another,
to choose to see the good,
to chase the dreams,
to realize our potential and our worth.
There is still much work to do ...
to be kinder,
nicer,
gentler people.
Perhaps we will meet those goals
in 2022.
Be safe. Be well. Be happy. Be.
Happy New Year's Eve!

A little swed on you

A Swedish proverb caught my eye.
Thought I'd share:

Those
who wish to sing
always
find a song.

Pay Attention!

from Glennon Doyle Melton:

I understand now
that I'm not a mess
but a deeply feeling person
in a messy world.
I explain that now,
when someone asks me
why I cry so often,
I say,
"For the same reason
I laugh so often -
because
I'm paying attention."

Some Stanley

On this fine Tuesday morning,
I thought I'd offer up a little Stanley Kubrick for you.

However vast the darkness,
we must supply our own light.

Now read that again.
Then go be your own light
and in doing so,
shine for countless others, too.

One Day

I didn't write all of this.
I expounded on something I saw.

One day,
you will be
just a memory
for some people.
Do your best
to be a
good one.
Do your best
to be a
bright one.
Do your best
to be one
that brings smiles
and laughter
and lessons
and hope
and faith
and joy
and love.

Angels Among Us

Oh, I believe there are Angels Among Us.

So yesterday, I posted about finding the positives instead of accepting the negatives.
Here is yesterday's story.

God shared my shoulders with not one, not two, but three people yesterday morning.
I was their go-to vent and they let it all go.
I listened, talked, virtually hugged them, tried to lift them up,
and tried to be what they needed at that time.
I was thankful they chose me, but, truth be told ...
it was very draining.
I wouldn't want to change their choice, but my heart was heavy.
So, on about my daily chores.
I found myself at a second grocery store for a few items.
A very tiny, frail-ish older woman was standing behind me.
We were just two of many, many people in the store.
As I finally reached the belt and was able to put my few items on,
I turned to see she really had just a few small item; probably less than 20.
For whatever reason, I asked if I could help her put her items on the belt.
And that was that ...
she smiled a beautiful smile and told me that would be wonderful
as her sciatic was acting up and her husband was sick and couldn't come to the store.
She was wondering how she was going to manage.
I unloaded her buggy and she proceeded to tell me
she was thankful, at 85, to be out and about
and she thought it was because God needed her to teach Sunday School each week,
that she was lucky to be around and able to do so much because her husband was so good to her.
She added that they ought to change the name from
"The Golden Years" to "The Tarnished Years".
I interrupted her, just the once, and said,
"Ma'm, you have no idea how well you shine.
Thank you for being you and for being here."
She thanked me and wished me a blessed Christmas.
Sometimes ... Angels don't have wings ...
they are tiny and frail and push grocery carts.
Enjoy your days.

Oh My ... This

This, my dear,
is the biggest challenge
of being alive.

To witness
the injustice
of the world,
and not
allow it
to consume
our light.

Not sure who said it,
but dadgummit ...
it couldn't be more true!

Claude

Claude Monet said:

I would like to paint
the way a bird sings.

Now think ...
for just a minute ...
on how beautiful
that statement is.
It is not a tangible.
It is felt.
And to try to capture that
in another medium
for someone else
to feel ...
wow!

I would like to behave
in such a manner
that I alleviate
just a tiny bit
of whatever pains
life has caused you ...
if only passing you by
in a shopping mall.

Same dadgum thing.
Enjoy your day.

Ch-Angels

Hey there, Ch-Angels!
You know who you are.
Those childhood friends,
who still are friends.
The ones who stood by me,
always,
lifting my spirits
and raising my hopes.
The young adult friends,
who still are friends.
The ones who stood by me,
always,
guiding my choices
and holding my hand.
The older adult friends,
who still are friends.
The ones who stand by me,
always,
cheering,
supporting,
loving,
caring,
listening,
hugging,
accepting.
Some are all three.
I am blessed
and so incredibly thankful
for you all ...
My Ch-Angels.

Worth

I do hope you enjoy another original ...

Worth
by Lyn Marinello

Scars and spots and wrinkles and grays
Are nothing more than a sign of the life in my days
The storms I have weathered and battles I've fought
These badges of honor bare what I've been taught
My beauty may have been outwardly altered
But I'm better for rising each time I have faltered
The lessons I've learned from each scab I've received
Bolsters my worth on which I've desperately cleaved
My skin may have sagged, my curves have evolved
Though my self-doubt has suffered, my soul's been absolved
My core has developed Herculean intent
Broadening horizons, life sans lament
Know that the mirror holds only reflection
See something of value and not of rejection
Time molds the body, but life holds the grit
Your worth can be found in what you permit

Bravery

This is a quote by Franklin P. Jones.
I do not know its reference point,
but boy, howdy, is this little sentence powerful.

Bravery
is being the only one
who knows you're afraid.

Baby Boy

You kids that get the blog get a sneak peek at this.
Enjoy!

Baby Boy
by Lyn Marinello

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the land
Spirits seemed heavy, perhaps a bit bland
Confounded with wearing these dang covid masks
It hid all the smiles accompanying holiday tasks
The children were hoping that school would soon end
But sat rapt in algebra, or so they pretend
Dad in the car line; I'm checking on files
The Amazon driver just keeps leaving piles
When all of a sudden, a brief, fleeting thought,
Perhaps Christmas memories don't have to be bought
Away to the Publix I drove like a fool
I just had to beat those kids home from school
I grabbed us some popcorn and movies galore
Sorry, Checkers and Twister, we'd play on the floor
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But all kinds of baking stuff, the mission was clear
Behind an old driver, neither lively nor quick
I raced right around him, he shared a festive one-finger flick
I pulled in the drive, grabbed every bag, box and can
Rushed in the house and set forth my plan
Now honey! Now children! And even the hound!
They all looked right at me and made not a sound
From the top of the counter to the dining room table
They cleared it all off so we would be able
They popped all the popcorn but none of them fed
They grabbed needle and string and made garland instead
We played many games and laughed the whole while
And it struck me how gifted I am with each smile
Next day, we baked. Made cake, cookies and fudge
Friends called and texted, but not one kid budged
They stayed and requested making Christmas treat platters
They said, "It's not the receiving, but the giving that matters!"
So we all dressed up festive, holiday masks as we should
And delivered great cheer wherever we could
A carload of goodies, just trying to give back
Kind of like Santa, just opening his sack
Their eyes, how they twinkled! Their smiles, how merry!
"What do we do now?" was the children's next query
We pondered a moment and came up with a scheme
We couldn't do it alone, we'd have to work as a team
We went to the church and asked who was in need
We had our directive and we'd meet it indeed
There was a young family with quite a big brood
Both parents were jobless, in a destitute mood
We took a big wish list, shopped till we collapsed
Then took it all home, bagged it, boxed it and wrapped
Dad dressed in a suit, a right jolly old elf
Snuck all of those presents on their porch by himself
The parents peered out, just a silhouette of each head
And they hugged one another, they had nothing to dread
And as we lay down on that cold Christmas eve
We reveled in knowing that because we believe
In the real and true Christmas meaning and reason
Those children, and ours, would have a memorable season
Of laughter and kindness and of faith and of joy
Merry Christmas and thank you, sweet swaddled Baby Boy.

A little reminder ...

Hey you ...

Yes, you,
who is feeling down,
overwhelmed,
lost,
unloved,
unwelcome,
sad,
bitter,
and/or lonely.

Here's
a little reminder ...

You are incredible.
You make this world
a bit better by being in it.
You are so strong
and have so much potential.
You are beautiful
and bold
and brave
and blessed.
You are important
and integral
and loved.

Double Dose

These are two separate quotes I found,
but I kind of really like them together.
Sometimes,
in the connecting,
there is more to see and
more to reach.

Everyone we encounter
is a messenger.

and

Maybe
you are searching
among the branches
for what only appears
in the roots.

Glittering Eyes

A Roald Dahl quote:

And above all,
watch with glittering eyes
the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets
are always hidden
in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic
will never find it.

Lines

Came across this tidbit yesterday.
Fell in love and thought I'd share.
Hope it reaches who it needs to ...

You can
waste your life
drawing lines
or
you can
live your life
crossing them.

The Difference

You and your attitude
are the difference
between an ordeal
and an adventure;
between a lesson
and a blessing;
between happy
and crappy;
between joyful acceptance
and tearful remorse;
between walking in faith
and stumbling in sight;
between positives
and negatives.
The difference
begins with you
and radiates outward.
Make a difference ...
for you
and others.

Remember This

The darkest nights
produce
the brightest stars.
When you see someone
without a smile,
give them
one of yours.
When you find a soul
that's in a rage,
sit and share
some of your peace.
When you see the opportunity
do the right thing.
In the dark,
be the bright.

Tired?

Tired?

Do you often feel tired?
It's not because
you've done too much,
but because
you've done too little
of what sparks a light
in you.

Saturday, December 4, 2021

Reach Out

I did not write this.
I wish I had.
My brain is too tired to think right now and this seemed
like something some folks might need to hear.

Reach Out
to someone you know,
tell them how
they make your life better
and how
they are important to you.
It only takes a moment
to give new hope
to someone
that is trying to find light
in the darkness.

Thursday, December 2, 2021

Joy

When you choose joy,
you feel good
and
when you feel good,
you do good
and
when you do good
it reminds others
of what joy
feels like
and
it just might
inspire them
to do the same.

Self

There is much to be said
for the care of one's self.
You cannot pour
from an empty cup.
You will not find someone
who makes you happy
until you make you happy.
You speak to yourself
the most;
speak kindly.
You are braver
than you believe,
stronger
than you seem,
and smarter
than you think.
You have purpose
and worth.
Fall down seven times,
stand up eight.
You are beautiful.
Take care of you.
I love you.

A Simple Empty Stocking

A Simple Empty Stocking
by Lyn Marinello

An eight foot balsam fir draped in lights of every hue
Glittering gold ornaments and ribbons of royal blue
Presents wrapped all shiny with fancy, pretty bows
There's a crackling of oak logs as the cozy fire glows
Garland frames the doorways, smell that snickerdoodle laden air
There is Christmas music playing as we scurry to prepare
The Reason for the season holds center stage in nativities
There's a joyous celebration in all activities
Yet by miles between us or Heavenly reservation
There's an underlying ache; a sad and timid trepidation
For upon that walnut mantel, hung with the utmost tender care
Is a simple empty stocking for someone who's no longer there
Their presence fills the void but not in a tangible sort of way
The gift of time we shared to be unwrapped when in dismay
Talk about them freely; of the zest for life they shared
Impart a little of their wisdom; about the things of which they cared
Carry on traditions. Hold dear the things they cherished
They still very much surround you, though their earthly vessel's perished
Gather while you're able. Take comfort in the flocking
There's a peace; a calm serenity in that simple empty stocking.

Mark

If you're coming
to leave your mark
on the world,
make that mark
something beautiful.

I didn't write this.
Just found it fabulous.

Two-fer

I was going to try
to find a nifty way
to mash these two together,
but
their mere existence
is simply brilliant.

Be authentic.
Speak sincerely.
Listen thoughtfully.
Act compassionately
and love.
ALWAYS love.
What we bring to life
becomes our life.

and

Every child
begins the world
again.

See & Shut

Mr. Benjamin Franklin
sure was spot on:

The way to see
by faith
is to shut the eye
of reason.

The more it sinks in,
the more sense it makes.

Stuffing

Oh that glorious accoutrement
that goes with the Thanksgiving bird,
but ...
am I ever really talking about
what I'm talking about?

:-)

Today,
I want you to think
about what you are stuffing
into your life.
Is it all work?
Is it stress?
Is it sadness, anger,
bitterness, resentment?
Remember
to stuff your days
with gratitude,
thankfulness,
and selflessness.

A recipe
for scrumptious days ahead.

Thankful

Not sure if I'll get on here tomorrow,
or if any of you will be reading,
but I will ensure that today
you are filled with all the love!

I am thankful for hard days
and difficult people.
I am thankful for hard work
and occasional bruises.
I am thankful for tears
and for heartache.
With each of the those things
and so many more
I have cunningly learned
to navigate life;
to be empathetic;
to be compassionate;
to be patient;
to be diligent;
to be tenacious;
to be brave;
to be humble;
to be happy.
I am thankful, too,
for you.
All you wonderful folks
who have lifted me up,
walked beside me,
pushed me along,
and backed me up.
Life is as good
as we choose to see it.
Mine is pretty dandy -
because of you all.
Thank you.

The Good

I was gifted
with lifting the spirits
of a sad soul
coming through my line yesterday.

I offered her
another viewpoint
to her loss.

Through teary eyes
we hugged one another;
strangers,
both enlightened
and bettered
by a random encounter.

This is The Good in life.

Enjoy.

Grass

Saw this quote
and boy, howdy,
did it scream at me.
Apparently,
someone needs to see this:

I was too busy
working on my own grass
to notice
if yours was greener.

Beautiful and Necessary

Yesterday,
an early wake up calling
left a beautiful message.
Today,
my brain is all over the place.
Each day
is what it is.
Find the joy, find the hope,
find a way to increase
your positive impact
on yourself
and the world around you.
Will the manure turbine still turn?
You bet!
Does it matter?
Nope.
Keep doing you.
You're beautiful
and necessary.

Sitting at Life's Table

These words woke me at 4:30 am and tumbled out -
like me from bed.
Enjoy.

Sitting at Life's Table
by Lyn Marinello

Everyone is welcome
To life and its bountiful feast
From the great and very powerful
To the newborn, life at its least
The tables are not set the same
Some mahogany, some just a mere lap
Some drink days old beverages
Some sip the finest stuff on tap
Fine china graces tabletops
Others dine on paper
Some are warmed by steel drum fires
Some watch dancing flames on tapers
Silver spoons among the table wear
For others, plastic is a treat
Some might search through dumpsters
While other's repasts are replete
Some are clad in second hand
Some in fancy red carpet attire
Some soothe the air with classical
Other's serenaded by nature's choir
Some dine atop fine linens
Others on a thin plastic sheet
Some surrounded by familial chatter
Some by the harsh sounds of the street
Some bellies will be overstuffed
Some will ache for just one bite
Some retire to aperitifs
And some just fade into the night ...
But, lo, there is a table
Whose guest list is inclusive
Of every single person
Reservations un-elusive
Breaking bread is custom
Everyone shares the fare
It's a coming together of palate and peace
It begins and ends with prayer
Our Father serves the meal
A hearty menu on which to thrive
Nourishing both the body and soul
A promise to lift and revive
No matter your earthly stature
There's a chair etched with your name
We're all welcome at His supper
Individuals; all the same
Dining in His presence
Is a choice for each to make
The invitation is eternal
And eternity's at stake
We clasp hands at His table
Conjoined with higher cause
Brothers and sisters unified
With the opportunity to pause
We are one; we're equal
Each uniquely able
To dine together peacefully
Sitting at Life's Table.

As Long

Saw this three times yesterday.
When things recur, I pay attention.
Someone needs to see this.
It might have just been me,
but I've learned
that's probably not the case.

As Long as we have memories,
yesterday remains.
As Long as we have hope,
tomorrow awaits.
As Long as we have love,
today is beautiful.
As Long as we have God,
anything is possible.

Silence

Silence
gives
answers.

In the quiet
of the morning,
or the middle
of the night,
or perhaps,
in the center
of your self,
there are answers
to most things
you want
to know.

Nancy

I wrote this for my husband,
in hopes of capturing the best of his sister,
who passed away over Halloween weekend.
Although you may not have known her,
hopefully these words will paint a picture.
Respectfully ...

Nancy
by Lyn Marinello

I walked in the shadows
Played in the dark
Was afraid of the fire
But tempted the spark
Breathing life into others
Gave meaning to mine
Thankful to God
For peace time after time
I danced on the edge
Lived life at my pace
Saw beauty in others
I was thankful for grace
I loved a good wedding
I danced up a storm
Unconfined by labels
I challenged the norm
Family was everything
Arms open and caring
Unaffected by actions
Eternally sharing
Standing up here
Looking over all of you
I'm free of any pain
I am cleansed anew
No more misdirection
I'll no longer roam
Thank you for your love
It has guided me Home

Strength

Behind every strong person
is a story
that gave them no choice.
It is extraordinary
to realize
the strength
that lies within you.
There's a tenacity
that sits
at the core
of those who will not quit.
It doesn't matter
what is before them.
It is their mission
to put it behind them.
I believe
we have all
tasted this adversity
and victory.
Some
much more than others.
It is a
beautiful metamorphosis
to witness
and an
incredible gift
to be a part of.

THIS!

Sometimes,
we all need to be reminded
of this very simple thing:

Don't forget,
while you're busy
doubting yourself,
someone else
is admiring
your strength.

Aha!

A very HUGE thank you
to our Veterans today.
Your service is humbly appreciated.

and know ...
your 'Aha!' moment for the day ...

Do not get upset
with people
or situations;
both are powerless
without
your reaction.

Honest

I call BS on being 'stoic'.
Defined as: one who is free from passion,
unmoved by joy or grief,
and who submits without complaint to unavoidable necessity.

(Really? submits without complaint to unavoidable necessity?)

Be real. Be honest.
If there are tears ... cry.
If you feel grief ... grieve.
If you are overcome ... then let it go.
Life is too short
to put on facades and masks
only to try to remember
how you're supposed to behave
in front of whom.
There is no weakness
in tears,
in feeling,
in allowing yourself
to be washed in the moment.
There is tremendous strength
in hearts on sleeves,
in bravery of voice,
in the emotional outburst
that comes from love.
Be Honest.

Embers

Embers
by Lyn Marinello

Born of equal innocence, naked and pure and clean
Each of us unknowing of what our lives could mean
A product of what's around us or the culmination of our choices
Battered by adjacent bitterness or bolstered by tantamount voices
Limited only by boundaries built by societal fray
You're a stunning piece of artwork; a masterpiece of moldable clay
And as precious as you are, there's the occasional chip or crack
To reach the pinnacle of your grandeur, there is nothing that you lack
The path may seem so daunting. A dark and frightening, chasm-ed course
Your greatness dwells within you, in your soul, your strength, your source
We each possess a purpose; an impact to be gratefully shared
A humble being with a lesson if we allow those imperfections to be bared
Life may take its toll; dull your shine and steal your zeal
You were created for a reason. Don't let your mission be concealed
There are innumerable parasites looking to erode your worth
Dig deep to fully resurrect the simplistic beauty of your rebirth
Your value lies not in the tangible; but in your essence, an artful uncloaking
Those brilliant, flickering embers that are truly worth the stoking

Not.

This is not my poem,
but one I think a lot of folks
could use right now.

Not.
by Erin Hanson

You are not your age,
Nor the size of clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the color of your hair,
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak,
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You're the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you've cried,
You're the songs you sing so loudly,
When you know you're all alone,
You're the places that you've been to,
And the one that you call home,
You're the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You're the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of,
You're made of so much beauty,
But it seems that you forgot,
When you decided you're defined,
By all the things you're not.

Ain't that nice?
Off-grid for the weekend.
Be back on Monday.
Find those silver linings,
count those blessings,
be well and know you're loved.

Zig & Stevie

A pair of quotes
from two very different people
that truly are powerful.
Let them sink on in ...

Don't count
the things you do,
do the things
that count.

and

We all
have ability.
The difference
is how we use it.

Without Googling ...
who said which?

A successful man
is one who can
lay a firm foundation
with the bricks
others have thrown at him.

Parenting

As promised, I am back and brought with me
the words that were rolling around in the old noggin'.
This is written for myself, my brand new moms, my mom
and a bazillion other people who will 'get it'.
I hope you enjoy. Please let me know.

Parenting
by Lyn Marinello

As you age you understand just a smidge of your parents' woes
The worries that they battled as each precious child grows
Work hard for what you want and play when you are able
Say your prayers before bed each night and keep your elbows off the table
Always say, "Please" and "Thank you"; treat strangers as though new friends
Apologize when you've made mistakes; always try to make amends
Eat up all your meat and veggies. Don't be afraid to enjoy dessert
Don't be afraid to speak your mind, but be mindful that words can hurt
These are simple tasks of parenting, though none of them are easy
Parenting's not for the faint of heart or for those who are quickly queasy
As children grow you navigate on terribly thin ice
You hope the foundation that you've laid is solid enough to suffice
You must build up a little ego, but not to boisterous extreme
Raise a considerate, caring human with a bullet-proof self-esteem
You have to teach respect but debating tools as well
Obey the laws before you, but when wronged you fight like hell
You tilled the earth they walk on. Set down roots to keep them grounded
Redirected when they veered off course; offered guidance when confounded
You padded the nest they laid in; provided a haven of safety and rest
Imparted the passion to chase their dreams and the stamina to face said quest
You urged them in jumping from that nest, assured you'd catch them or they'd fly
You gave them strong and mighty wings with which to soar on high
When they're little you protect them, but a broken heart is hard to mend
So you sit and cry and listen, so they know you comprehend
You hug them back together; absorb all the pain and tears
Stand beside them undeterred as they battle down their fears
You celebrate the victories and coach them through defeat
You let them fall; the lesson learned, though the education's bittersweet
You've got to let them go and make errors all on their own
You pray they will take solace in the most basic seeds you've sown
You can't hold their hands forever, but hearts are eternally connected
The only true rule in parenting is that absolutely anything's expected
Without manuals or directions we all take on this blessed task
With nothing but each other to answer all the questions that we ask
Those apron strings must be untied, though the bond is never-ending
Parenting; that thankless, unpaid job is worth all the effort you're expending.

Boo!

Life's not too scary.
It's what you make of it.
Sometimes,
there are ghosties
and ghoulies
and even monsters.
But there's nothing
out there
that you cannot
handle and overcome.
Have a safe weekend.
Taking tomorrow off.
I'll see ya Monday.

Tired

We are often tired,
not because
we've done too much,
but because
we've done too little
of what sparks
a light in us.

Beyond

You did not
wake up today
to simply be
mediocre.
You were created
to be unique
and beautiful
and amazing
and bold
and a grand
difference maker.
Go beyond mediocrity.
Do what
you were meant to do!
Go Be You!

AHhhhhhh

A little Audrey for your Monday morning:

Pick the day.
Enjoy it - to the hilt.
The day as it comes.
People as they come ...
The past, I think,
has helped me
appreciate the present -
and I don't want to
spoil any of it
by fretting
about the future.

MAD

Today is
National Make A Difference Day!
I really shouldn't
have to say a whole lot more.
Y'all know me.
I'm all about
making a difference.
Leave it better
than you found it.
Do the right thing,
even when no one's watching.
Be the joy
for those who have lost theirs.
It's a great day
to make a difference.

Joy

Life
weighs heavy
on the heart.
The loss.
The ache.
The anger.
The angst.
The want.
Joy
lifts boldly
on the soul.
The chance.
The effort.
The love.
The peace.
The abundance.

There is joy
in a great many places.
Seek joy.

Thanks, Chuck!

A fabulously spot on quote
by Mr. Charles Dickens:

No one
is useless in this world
who lightens the burden of it
for anyone else.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Choose Wisely

God wants you to know
that there are only
two ways to live your life:

One is though
nothing is a miracle.
The other
is as if everything is.

I know my choice!
What's yours?

Cousins

This is a quote from Norman Cousins.
It is not somber or sad,
but rather a kind of wake up call
to many.

Death is not
the greatest loss
in life.
The greatest loss
is what dies
inside us
while we live.

Get out there
and do
what makes your
heart smile.

Monday, October 18, 2021

Yup!

Do not know the author ...
but definitely know this is the truth!

Behind
every strong person
is
a story that
gave them no choice.

Let's be Clear

A quote by James Clear
and something most of us
really, really, really need to work on.

Feel compliments
as deeply
as you feel insults.

My thoughts

There is kindness in a smile,
Hope in each selfless gesture,
Faith in every tiny step,
Love in every hug.

Life

I did not write this,
but I surely live this:

We are tender
and fierce.
We are soft
and strong.
We are fragile
and courageous.

Sometimes,
all in one day.

Hands

So, as I stated on a post, these words woke me up.
If you read my last poem - there is a vast difference.
Sometimes, there is deep and intricate meaning ...
sometimes ...
what is given to me is silly and lighthearted.
I'll take it all and share it.
Please enjoy!

Hands
by Lyn Marinello

You can show them to a face,
Run them, frantic, through your hair
Thumbs up when things are good
Two thumbs down when life's unfair
Pointer up for 'wait a minute'
'I love you's' three digits away
A purposefully rigid tall man
Screams that things are not okay
One finger ringed claims we're married
Four flicked 'neath the chin isn't wise
Two from eyes warn 'I'm watching you'
Four waved at the throat's your demise
We shake hands to keep our word
Do high fives to celebrate
Tap very impatient fingertips
When we simply cannot wait
We clasp hands in fervent prayer
On date, fingers intertwine
Wag them at another
When they may have crossed the line
There's congratulatory clapping
And wringing of the hands
Banging clenched fists on a table
Impels one to meet demands
White power's somehow misconstrued
From the simplest 'Okay'
Two paws, palms up has come to mean
'I don't know' in current day
Bunches fingers mean 'capeesh?'
A wave can mean 'Goodbye'
Hang ten is thumb and pinky
A wave can also be a 'Hi!'
Two fingers denote 'loser'
Two different guys gesture 'peace'
Turn the 'loser' on his side
Now you brandish a fingered 'piece'
Pointer and pinky can surely 'rock on'
You can cross some just for luck
Left or right, the pointer alone
Can direct you when you're stuck
Rubbing thumb and forefinger means money
Two hands cupped can create a heart
Right hand raised vows honesty
Lending one's a positive start
These fabulous little additions
At the end of everyone's wings
Are really quite communicative
Amazingly useful things

Spend more time
with people
who are good
for your soul,
not your ego.

Little

The little things?

The little moments?

The little memories?

The little laughs?

The little calls?

The little strolls?

The little conversations?

The little hugs?

They aren't little.

No More

I am fine - a little sniffly and stuffy, but fine.
I don't always know where the words come from,
but have learned to pour them out when they come.
Enjoy.

No More
by Lyn Marinello

I'm not being negative. Quite the opposite, in fact
I am simply pondering the weight, if any, of my impact
I try to live the motto: "Leave it better than it's found"
And, if you will allow me, I'll try further to expound
In the grand scheme of the universe, we're here merely for a blink
We need to focus more on action and far less on forcing what we think
If we spent the same amount of effort in acts of kindness and of grace
This little blue spinning marble would be a much more peaceful place
We cannot resurrect the dinosaurs, but we learn from when they were
The past is but a teaching tool, not a debt to be incurred
I've received what I have worked for. I've been passed over and passed by
It only spurred me to work harder; to try and try and try and try
There are things that I have done that I failed at really well
But I picked my sorry ass up each and every time I fell
There are things that I excelled at, so I strolled in that direction
Always pushing boundaries, challenging safety and protection
For nothing's ever gained from within your comfort zone
Both your mistakes and victories are things that you must own
So I walk eternally toward the light and I hope I shine on others, too
I'll gladly share my positivity, hoping a little adheres to you
I will share with you my struggles so you might not feel so all alone
I'll share my heart and my emotions. I am not a stoic stone
I will stand beside you when you need a little strength
And when you need to venture out, I'm but merely at arm's length
I will cheer your victories. I will care for you when you ache
I'll be steadfast by your side, know my support simply will not shake
We have truly very little that is really ours to give
Our word, our heart, our passion; an example in how we live
I've learned to walk away from the things that drag me down
And focus all my energy on the One that wears the crown
He's surrounded me with Angels, picked me up when things seemed mislaid
He's a constant, unconditional, blanket of blessing, love conveyed
You may judge my words and actions and that's within your right
But I've learned to walk within my truth in a pure and brilliant light
If you're within my circle, know you are etched upon my being
No matter to our differences, my love's not confined to agreeing
I will treat you pleasantly, respectfully and kind
Your soul is what I care about. I'm otherwise colorblind
Does a phrase of mine make you smile? What do you think when you hear "Lyn"?
Has my positivity lifted you up? My outlook lightened the trouble you're in?
If you've ever lifted my spirits, I am eternally in your debt
A kindness, however miniscule, is not something to forget
I've treasured every hug, every supportive word you've uttered
I'm appreciative of your clearing my path when it was cluttered
If you are my family, words can simply not define
The strength that you afford me; you are my heart, my soul, my spine
Shed no tears in my absence, I'm Home in the presence of something Great
Remember all the love we've shared. That'll make our reunion worth the wait
This is not written in depression, nor in a solemn state of mind
But to know that I'm content with the folks and the path that I've designed
I hope you've learned your value, your worth and the good in store
That you feel warmth and love with thoughts of me when I am here no more

Keep On

This is for my friends
(and maybe me - lol)
that are having a rough time
right now ... and always:

We can miss them.
We can mourn them.
But we cannot
die with them.
We have to go on.
We have to
remember them.
Keep on
loving them.
We have to
keep that connection
alive.
Until it's our time,
and we meet them
again
on the other side.

Signs

The sign
of a beautiful person
is that they always
see the beauty
in others.
The sign
of a gracious person
is that they always
pass on blessings
to others.
The sign
of a plentiful soul
is that they always
find a way to give
to others.
The sign
of a contented heart
is that they always
choose to love
others.

I am

I did not write this.
The author was not attached
or I would acknowledge.
I just think it's important
for the 'searchers' ...

It took me
so long to realize
that
I am
the only one
who can save myself.
What I was
searching all around
has always been
buried
deep within the dust
of my soul
and the marrow
of my bones.

Trust the Wait

This is not mine,
but so worth the share.

Trust the wait.
Embrace the uncertainty.
Enjoy the beauty
of becoming.
When nothing is certain,
anything is possible.

You're In Control

 Hey there peeps!

Trying to elude technical difficulties and some other snafus, but wanted to make sure I reached out to positively impact your Friday.

Remember that we cannot always control the moment, but we can always control how we react to it.

Enjoy your day, your weekend and one another.

All Of This

This is being shared and re-shared and clipped and amended.
I hope it finds the hearts and heads it needs to fill today.

I've been struggling with a lot of things lately,
and I thought maybe writing them down and putting them out into the universe
will help heal some emotional wounds of my own and maybe for some others, too.

I've learned a lot over the past few years. Some good things, some not so good things.
But, I'm sharing them all.

No matter how good you are to some people, they will turn their backs on you.
Don't take it personally. Just keep being good to people.

You're the villain in someone's story. And that's ok.
Everyone has their truth. Stick to yours and don't try to defend yourself.
Your actions speak much louder than your words ever will.

No matter how nice your pictures are, some people just won't hit the like button. Because it's you.
Post anyway. Share your pictures. And, your stories. They put a smile on someone's face.

Not everyone has the same heart as you.
Just because you will do it for them, doesn't mean they will do it for you.
And, it's unfair to both of you to expect that.

You will be excluded. And, it will hurt. A lot.
You'll never understand why. But, you will remember the pain of being left out,
and you will make sure to include everyone so no one has to feel the way that you did.
Your kids (or future kids) will be excluded. And trust me, that hurts even more.
But, it's a great teachable opportunity.

When you put good out into the world, good comes back.
If you are kind, kindness will flood your doorsteps.

Friends come and go, unfortunately. It's life.
Sometimes friendships you thought would last forever end abruptly and you're left wondering why.
Stop wondering.
You're never going to feel satisfied with any answer they give you.
Own your part in it, learn from it, and then close that door.
That chapter has ended. Allow a new one to begin.

A simple text just to see how someone is doing, can mean the world.
Just to know someone is thinking about you and cares, can turn a whole day around.
Send the text.

No one owes you anything.

Forgive even if you don't get an apology.
You can't begin to heal while you're still holding on to the hurt.
Let it hurt for a moment. Forgive, and let it go.

You're going to be too much for some people.
Too loud. Too opinionated. Too talkative. Too positive. Too passionate.
Those people will never get you. Find the ones who do... and love them hard!

People are going to talk about you. Give them good material.

Extend grace to those who need it. We all struggle sometimes.

Life is tough. It's messy. And it's ugly at times.
But, its also so beautiful. And exciting. And full of adventure. Absorb it all!

Be a light. Don't let anyone dull your shine.
You never know who may be looking to you for a little bit of joy. Be that joy.

And, most importantly learn to love yourself.
And forgive yourself for not being perfect. Perfect is boring.

These Three

 ...

and now these three

remain:

faith, hope and love.

But

the greatest of these

is love.

I so agree ...

Short And Simply Sublime:

I will never
fit in.
That's one of
my best qualities.

There are a great many people
who need to read this

Your uniqueness
is extraordinary.
Why fit in

A little extra

Do not go gentle
into that good night.
Rage.
Rage against
the dying of the light.
Fight.
Fight with every ounce
of all your might.
Do.
Do the hard things,
because they're right.
Stand.
Stand against the
egregious plight.
Choose.
Choose to create
a world that's bright.
Do not go gentle
into that good night.

Heart

Found this
calling to me.
Perhaps
someone needs to
read or see this today:

What is stronger

human heart
which shatters
over and over
and
still lives

Stirs the Soul

I was actually watching some boxing stuff
waiting on family to arrive
and on one of the intros
there was this ...
rather soul-stirring
and invigorating piece ...
kind of appropriate
at this juncture.

Invictus
by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matter not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Magical Thing

So,
I always try
to make these blogs
as positive as can be.
Occasionally,
one must stumble
however
in the dark
before
finding the light.
It is okay
to walk away
from the things
that drain you,
that damage you,
that weaken you.
You can still
love and care and pray
for those folks
and those things,
but a little distance
can be a
magical thing
for your
soul
and your
heart
and your
self.

Notice

Not mine,
but so worth sharing.

May you
always be
the one
to notice
the
merciful nature
of an all-new
sunrise.

Chasing Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows
by Lyn Marinello

We've all sung the lyrics
"Red and yellow, black and white"
Simple, basic, honest truth
"We're all precious in His sight"
We can be green with envy
Or eerily white hot mad
A yellow-bellied coward
Or blue when inconsolably sad
We can be tickled pink or peachy keen
Or maybe green at the gills
You can be fiscally in the black
Or in the red with unpaid bills
The boys in blue protect us
Some dream of visiting the Emerald Isle
All that glitters is not gold
We all chase that perfect pearly white smile
You can be a shrinking violet
Or go out and paint the town red
You can follow the yellow brick road
Or be ordinary as plain white bread
You can see through rose-colored glasses
You can speak with a silver tongue
You can get caught red-handed
Think you're the black sheep when you're young
We can roll out the red carpet
If cream of the crop is entertained
Eat with the proverbial silver spoon
Grass is greener when watered and properly drained
You can surely be blue-ribbon worthy
Or maybe tell a little white lie
You can follow the golden rule
And I pray that wool won't ever dye
For purple mountain's majesty
And amber waves of grain
Such vivid illustrations
And yet just grey matter for our brain
We can be out chasing rainbows
But they're everywhere all the time
They dwell within each one of us
Beneath the grunge of societal grime
These worldly colors are beautiful
Gracing every day in which we live
Each integral and important
A most beautiful ROYGBIV

Peace

Peace.
Peace begins
within us ~
we cannot bring
to the world
what we
do not have
to offer.

This is not my quote,
but oh,
so incredibly needed.

WCYD

Found these quotes
to truly correspond
to one another
and to mean
a great deal ...
especially
in this climate.

Ask yourself:
"What can I
control right now?"
and
When I
stop struggling,
I float.

Terri-fic!

Saw this quote from Terri Willingham
and thought that perhaps
some people need
to read this
or be reminded of it.

I will
never fit in.
That's one
of my
best qualities.

Never Forget!

Never Forget!

Not the loss.
Not the chaos.
Not the carnage.

Never Forget!

Not the cohesion.
Not the solidarity.
Not the patriotism.
Not the community.
Not the unity.

Ch-Angels

Hey friends!
I'm acknowledging some Ch-Angels today.
Those beings who strive
to be good, to do good,
to go beyond,
without expectation,
because it is right,
because it is
what we were
ultimately
created to do.
And so ...
for your support,
your kindness,
your love,
your efforts
at being better humans,
thank you:
Victor, Deanna, Miles, Nicholas, Kelly,
Cal, Bill, Dan, Jim, Eric,
Susie, Billy, Donald, Lenny,
Amie, Ann, Carol, Dianna, Nancy, Norma, Wilma
and a few hundred other people.
I am better
because you exist.
God bless and keep you.

For You

Be a stronger you,
for you.
Be a kinder you,
for you.
Be a braver you,
for you.
Be a better you,
for you.

From Zelda

Zelda Fitzgerald said:

Nobody has ever measured,
not even poets,
how much
the heart can hold.

Whether it is
hurt,
love,
pain,
joy,
guilt,
pride,
breaking,
faith,
or a multitude
of other things,
your heart
is an extraordinary item -
capable of much more
than you could ever
imagine.

Change

This!
This is so powerful.
Yet, so very many people
believe that
it is in how loud they yell
or rant and rave
that their point is made.
That's sad.

The world
is changed
by
your example
not
your opinion.

The Mash

Found these two quotes
and, although they seem to come
from vastly different view points,
I think they arrive at the same spot
really quite nicely.

You either get better
or you get bitter.
It's simple.
You either take
what has been dealt to you
and allow it
to make you a better person,
or
you allow it
to tear you down.
The choice does not
belong to fate,
it belongs to you.
and
When life
puts you in
tough situations,
don't say "Why me?".
Say, "Try me!"

A Truly Extraordinary Soul

A simple lead
to a powerful quote.
Some folks are givers.
These givers
give with selflessness,
no hope of acknowledgement
or reciprocation.
Some folks are appreciative.
They have known loss,
heartache,
pain,
betrayal,
and still look
for what buoys them.
Find the giver
that looks for good,
and you've found
a truly extraordinary soul.

Expect Nothing.
Appreciate Everything.

Roar Leo

A quote from Leo Buscaglia:

Too often we underestimate
the power of a touch,
a smile,
a kind word,
a listening ear,
an honest compliment,
or the smallest act
of caring,
all of which
have the potential
to turn a life around.

Roar, Leo. Roar!

Beautiful Destinations

Some difficult paths
cannot be found
without first getting lost
and then
through the brambles,
over the impasses,
under the tangled mass,
we stumble upon
beautiful destinations.

Thoughtful

Today is
National Thoughtful Day!

Thoughtful:
defined as being
considerate of others.

To move beyond yourself.
To give without expectation.
To share without hesitation.
To listen without interrupting.
To care without ceasing.
To love without exception.
It does not require
grand or overwhelming gestures.
A simple smile,
compliment,
bit of assistance,
show of kindness.
We are all capable
and able
to be thoughtful.
Today
and every day.

Two Things

Love this
and believe it
wholeheartedly.

Two things define us:
Our patience
when we have nothing,
and
our attitude
when we have everything.

As I sit and let that sink in,
it is not just the peaks and valleys
that create the beautiful journey
of this thing called life.
It is in what you do with them.
It is in how you share them.
It is in how you preserve them.
It is in how you protect them.
It is in how you respond to them.
Just two things.
Patience and Attitude.
In every peak and every valley.
In every little thing.

Women's Equality Day

So today is Women's Equality Day.
Hmmm.
My most favorite quote on this topic
is the following
by Sir William Gerald Golding:

I think women are foolish
to pretend
they are equal to men.
They are
far superior
and always have been.

You're welcome
and have a nice day.

Wednesday, August 25, 2021

Why?

Why fit in
when you were made
to stand out?
Why be equal
when you were created
to do superior things?
Why contemplate
if it's half full or half empty?
You have a glass!
Why hide
when you are clearly
meant to be seen?
Why fade
when you are
destined to shine?
You were created
to be your most
extraordinary self;
unique,
spectacular,
inspiring,
purposeful.
Why be
anything else?

Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Light

See the light in others
and treat them
as if that is
ALL
you see.

Monday, August 23, 2021

You Are

You Are
somebody's reason
to smile;
to rise;
to conquer;
to take the next step;
to speak up;
to stand up;
to try again;
to listen;
to learn;
to thrive;
to love;
to live.
You Are
THAT important.

Saturday, August 21, 2021

Parts

Use your voice
for kindness;
your ears
for compassion;
your eyes
for seeing good;
your hands
for charity;
your mind
for truth;
your heart
for love.
Use all your parts
and use them wisely.

My Ch-Angels

I have a great many inspiring friends,
Ch-Angels, even,
who thrive in the face of
torturous adversity;
who give selflessly
in the void of life's hand;
who offer guidance and solace
in the midst of their chaos;
who love unconditionally
in this world full of hate.
It is in those hearts,
those souls,
those lives,
those people,
in which I connect
and dwell
and flourish.
Hate begets hate.
Anger makes it worse.
Bullying is just self-loathing.
I will stick
with my Ch-Angels.
They make it better.
I thank you.
I love you.

Girls

For a few of my friends,
you know who you are,
(to include my daughter
and hopefully future DIL),
this is FANTASTIC!

Not all girls
are made of
sugar and spice
and everything nice.
Some girls
are made of
adventure,

Beautiful Paths

getting lost.

Burn Bright

Not sure who said it, but ...

Do not
put our your fire
because
someone else
does not
understand
your flame.

Burn on!
Burn bright!

Go a Little Wilde

To love oneself
is the beginning
of a
life-long romance.

~ Oscar Wilde

Be and Do

There will always be obstacles, go anyway.
There will always be hate, love anyway.
There will always be negativity, be positive anyway.
There will always be anger, be peaceful anyway.
There will always be ugly, be beautiful anyway.
There will always be darkness, shine anyway.
Be and do all the things that you,
in all of your uniqueness,
were created to be and do.

Legacy

Legacy
by Lyn Marinello

You can't discern your value
By the years within your life
By your accolades and trophies
By the absence of any strife

Did you try to help your neighbor?
Do you best to just inspire?
Did you give when you were able?
Were you someone you'd admire?

Were you kind to every stranger?
Amongst abused, did you defend?
Did you seek out silver linings?
Would you want to be your friend?

Did you look to right the wrongs?
Make improprieties well known?
Would you want to reap the harvest
of the seeds that you have sown?

Was your door an open passageway?
Your arms welcome to receive?
Did you lift your fellow beings
with the faith that you believe?

Were you always at the ready
to resurrect what may be crushed?
Did your keep your word as promised?
Were you someone that you'd trust?

Did you listen without judgement?
Find ways to constantly connect?
Commit to random acts of kindness?
Were you someone you'd respect?

You're not measured by your wealth
Nor the length of your careers
Rather, legacies are built
By the life within your years.

Kwitchyerbellyakin

So, in my house,
there was this needlepointed sign:

KWITCHYERBELLYAKIN

It hung in our kitchen for a very long time.
It was a source of great entertainment,
many discussions,
fantastic phonetics,
and much laughter.
It also was the answer to a lot of whining.
With seven kids,
two adults,
a revolving door of friends, family,
and folks who lived with us ...
there was always whining.
Someone always had some chaos.
Someone was always in a mess.
And there would be chatter,
there would be listening,
there would be guidance,
there would be support,
there would be love,
and ...
eventually,

KWITCHYERBELLYAKIN

and next!
I wonder where that sign is now.

A Love Like That

And still,
after all this time
the sun never says
to the earth,
'You owe me.'

Look what happens
with a love like that.
It lights the whole sky.

in humble places,
where other people
see nothing ...

Remnants

Remnants
by Lyn Marinello

Handwritten letters in aged envelopes
Tattered lift passes from wintery slopes
Polaroid photos, a dried prom corsage
A mix tape of music, conjures such a mirage
Fragile collectibles inscribed with delicate words
Menus from restaurants, paper origami birds
Dainty flower petals crushed flat forever more
Trophies and medallions holding victories of lore
Matchbooks from weddings, a garter caught upon display
A yearbook full of signatures and well wishes sent your way
Hospital bands from childbirth. Announcements from the same
A pair of tickets that you kept from his very first football game
The first soft lock of hair and the initial lost tiny tooth
The patching of a broken heart when crushed by less than truth
Learning how to bait a hook, taking off the training wheels
Gentle nuances of make-up; how to walk in those high heels
Starting with the doggie-paddle, graduate to learning dives
A first job, paychecks, shopping, taking charge of their own lives
Guiding when to take charge and when to let things go
When to teach a lesson and when to let it make you grow
Gatherings at Thanksgiving. Christmas rituals take root
The proper grip on golf clubs, how to load a gun and shoot
The sad realization that life's not absolute
A folded flag at graveside after a 21-gun salute
Anniversary pictures of family now passed
These pieces of life allow your memories to last
We bid farewell to those who've shaped us in so many ways
We mourn the loss, yet hang on tight, to shared years and months and days
A glossary of memories we keep tucked away internal
Fragments we hold onto offer comfort deep, eternal
The good, the bad, all intertwined; a dance that is collaborative
The heart of who we truly are. Remnants of a life well lived.

Learning

I am learning
to listen.
When 'that little voice'
speaks to me,
I pay attention.
Most times,
it is to write.
To take some phrase,
a quote,
some lyrics,
or a single word,
and make a message.
Whether a gift
or a call to action,
or both,
it works best
when I stop
whatever it is
that I am doing,
and take heed.
There is a gift
on its way.
From a single word
spoken during a sermon
by my preacher brother.
Hope it hits its mark.
Keep an eye out for ...

What do you see?

So,
in an attempt,
to be your
'good morning', 'good day' person,
I look for the good.
I am not -
I repeat NOT -
constantly positive.
I feel anger and hurt,
bitterness and betrayal,
loss and pain and sorrow.
But ...
dwelling in those places
for too long,
does no one any good.
And so I look for happy,
I search for kind,
I seek out love,
I hunt for silver linings,
I chase positive,
I pursue light.
And in searching for those things,
in my day and within others,
I dig myself out of the mire,
and am better prepared,
to do the same for others.
What do you see?

Another short one,
but ... oh. so. fantastic!

has music
for those
who choose
to listen.

Time for a Ch-Angel

A few, actually.
It's been a hot minute
since I posted about a specific Ch-Angel.
It'll be another minute, too.
This Ch-Angel shout out is for my brothers.
I was blessed with SIX - four by blood, two steps
and we'll throw in a couple others who have more than made the cut.
Callie, Billy, Danny, Jimmy, Skipper, Skeeter!!!
One has actually already earned his wings.
These folks - basically all with the same upbringing -
are each completely unique and different.
Calculating, Hustling, Creative, Brave, Winged, Giving.
Billy and Donald - my brothers from another mother -
have just always been a grand foundation for me.
They never treat me 'like a girl',
rather just like one of the gang (and we could be).
They challenge me, support me, test me, request me,
listen to me, help me, and love me.
It is a gift and a privilege to have such an option
of ears and shoulders and hands and hearts.
I am truly blessed.
Thank you Ch-Angels.

Marbles

I will not take credit for this.
I saw it yesterday,
and found it very silly
and fairly true.
I hope it lifts your spirits
and brings a smile to your face.

I may not have lost
all my marbles yet,
but there is definitely
a small hole
in the bag somewhere.

Have a nice day.

A little Audrey

Seems very appropriate
for the times that we are in
(and perhaps, a tad sadly ironic):

The best thing in life
to hold on to is
each other.

~ Audrey Hepburn

Be the Magic

Be the person
that you'd like to meet.
"Above all,
watch with glittering eyes
the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets
are always hidden
in the most unlikely places.
Those who
don't believe in magic,
will never find it."
Be that unlikely place.
Be that great secret.
Be the person
that you'd like to meet.
Be the Magic.

MHN

From one Miss Morgan Harper Nichols:

Fall in love
with the masterpiece,
and also
the paint on the floor.

The more you ponder that,
the wider the grasp it takes.
Enjoy your day
and
all the paint.

All Of This

Hope
is the dream
that awakens
the soul.
Do not dampen
the light of another.
Stoke their fire.
Fill your life
with adventures
and memories,
not with gadgets
and gizmos.
Always believe
in the magic of you.
You are the light
you've been searching for.

The little things?

The little moments?

...

They aren't little.

Two Things Adjacent

Saw these two posts,
almost adjacent to one another,
and thought ...
hey,
somebody needs to see this.
So, if it's you, I hope it helps.
If it's not you,
maybe you're supposed to share it.

When thinking about life,
remember this:
no amount of guilt
can solve the past
and
no amount of anxiety
can change the future.
Let go
of what is gone.
Be grateful
for what remains.
Look forward
to what is coming next.

Pulse

Pulse
by Lyn Marinello

Whether steady or slow
Or maybe it's racing
Depends on the day
And the tasks I am facing
Stopping in fright
Or perhaps skipping a beat
On scary movie night
Or an encounter discreet
In fear I hear it's thunder
In the confines of my head
In hapless health I hear the term
Of being weak or like a thread
For many folks upon this earth
My pulse beats strong and true
But it's purpose courses through my veins
For the Alpha, Omega, You.

I am always intrigued and amazed
when my poetry comes from 'somewhere else'.
It is usually inspired or triggered
by the here and now, a person, an event, an emotion.
This just happened,
with pen in hand and paper nearby.
I hope you enjoy.

SASS

Short And Super Sweet
and completely true!

Whole

I am not sure
who said this.
I don't think
it matters.

Every soul
is whole,
no matter
how wounded
the mind is.

Happy Child

In all of this world,
there is
nothing so beautiful
as
a happy child.

~ L Frank Baum

Wake Up

No,
we don't need more sleep.
It is our souls that are tired,
not our bodies.
We need nature.
We need magic.
We need faith.
We need adventure.
We need freedom.
We need the truth.
We need air.
We need stillness.
We don't need more sleep.
We need to
wake up and live.

Purpose

Saw this and loved the message:
(I altered it just a smidge - or it wouldn't be me! LOL)

"What is my purpose in life?" I asked the sky.

"What if I told you that you fulfilled it
when you took an extra hour to talk
with that kid about life?
Or when you bought that couple
their dinner at the restaurant?
Or when you saved that dog
from traffic?
Or helped that woman
with her groceries.
Or gave that compliment
to the bedraggled stranger.
Or when you tied your
father's shoes?"

He continued ...

"The issue is that you equate your purpose
with goal-based achievement.
I am not interested in your achievements ...
just your heart.
When you choose to act out of
kindness, compassion, and love,
you are already aligned with your true purpose.
No need to look any further."

Cycle

I did NOT write this,
but it's sooooooooooo good.
I thought I'd share.

Be the person
who breaks the cycle.
If you were judged,
choose understanding.
If you were rejected,
choose acceptance.
If you were shamed,
choose compassion.
Be the person you needed
when you were hurting,
not the person who hurt you.
Vow to be better
than what broke you -
to heal
instead of becoming bitter
so you can act
from your heart,
not from your pain.

Yes!
ALL of that!!!

Celebrate

If you read me regularly,
you know that I'm all about
finding the positive.
Not only do I want you
to look for the good,
for the silver lining,
for the happy,
I want you to celebrate!

Celebrate the sunrise.
Celebrate the coffee.
Celebrate the workout.
Celebrate the job.
Celebrate the chirping birds.
Celebrate the flowers.
Celebrate the water.
Celebrate the woods.
Celebrate the air.
Celebrate the sun.
Celebrate the rain.
Celebrate the moon.
Celebrate the day.
Celebrate your friends.
Celebrate your self.
Celebrate breathing.

It is all a gift.

My Words

My Words
by Lyn Marinello

My words are like a life preserver
Thrown out upon rogue waves
A stable line tossed in the storm
To see who they might save
A buoy in the chaos
A beacon in the dark
A promise of plenty
When life seems so stark
A chance at maybe
A gift of perhaps
An opportunity to breathe
Amidst barraging white caps
Hope to believe in
Faith, boat and anchor in one,
A light to reach out to
When clouds obstruct the sun
This storm will surely pass
The rainbow stands in wait
The constant crashing waves
Will surely dissipate
Once again the water
Will gently kiss the shore
The sun will share its warmth
It is patience I implore
But until that time has come
Don't be afraid to ask for aid
My words are only useful
When they're read as I've conveyed

Laces Out

Saw this quote
and thought a few folks
might need to see it.

Don't let anyone
who hasn't been
in your shoes
tell you how
to tie your laces.

Amen!

KISS

Keep
It
Simple
Silly

Take a walk.
Smell some flowers.
Watch the bees.
Track a bird.
Stroll through the woods.
Sit in the sand.
Gaze at the stars.
Lose the gadgets
and connect with
what's in front of you.
Simplicity
is a beautiful thing.

Happy National Simplicity Day!

An oldy, but a goody!

Wake up
every morning
with the thought
that
something wonderful
is about
to happen.

Love Me Now

Love Me Now
by Lyn Marinello

Tomorrow isn't promised
Sometimes the hourglass shatters
Speak to your emotions
Say what really matters
Don't pick apart achievements
Make light of when I fall
I've climbed all kinds of mountains
Though to you they may seem small
Do not sing my praises
When I'm too far away to hear
Or be afraid of vulnerability
To profess them when I'm near
Don't tell someone else
I did things to make you proud
Look me in the eyes
Say them now, to me, out loud
Hold me in the now
Share your thoughts and dreams
Include me in your process
A tiny fragment in your schemes
Don't take me for granted
Like the air you breathe each day
If I don't feel necessary
I will simply slip away
I'm not what you chose for me
But I'm exactly who I am
I may not be a roaring lion
But there sure is grace within the lamb
Don't wait to leave me flowers
Take me on a garden stroll
Grab me by the heart again
Hug me with your soul
Don't wait til there's a vigil
To come and pay respect
Treat me as an equal
There's no reason for neglect
I've stood beside you earnestly
Accepted all I can allow
Do now wait for perfect timing
All I ask is to love me now

Thoroughly Thoreau

To affect
the quality of the day,
that is
the highest of arts.

I have long said
and am truly trying to practice
this very thing.
To seek the good.
To be the good.
To inspire the good.
Is to have lived.

Potpourri

Get up every morning
and remind yourself
"I can do this!"
Take a moment,
pause,
and truly appreciate
all the good.
Don't save anything
for a special occasion.
LIFE
is a special occasion;
because
when you stop
and look around,
it's all
pretty amazing.

A Lesson Worth Learning

A quote from Lewis B. Smedes.
The barbed posts and hurtful words
serve no real purpose.
Perhaps, when we learn forgiveness,
there may be real movement forward.
I'm just saying ...
(or rather he was)

Forgiving
does not erase the bitter past.
A healed memory
is not a deleted memory.
Instead,
forgiving what we cannot forget
creates a new way to remember.
We change
the memory of our past
into a hope
for our future.

Light

I am mashing a few things together, here,
to drive home a point.
Let's hope it works ...

Remember
that you carry a light
inside you.
It is there ... all the time.
Even if only a fragile flicker.
Even in your darkest moment.
All that is required
is your gentle tending
of that flame.
Put your heart into it
as you would
for your dearest friend.
And find that friend
inside of you.
You were born
to light up this world.

the Brave

As we celebrate this weekend,
with bar-b-que's and parties,
picnics and beach time,
let us pause to remember
that this is
The Land of the Free
Because of the Brave!

Friday, July 2, 2021

Yes, please

Saw this this morning.
I could have written this.
Maybe I did and this person stole it.
LOL!

Doesn't matter.
Credit is inconsequential.
Sharing is imperative.

Perhaps
the only legacy
worth having
is to have been known
as a kind
and compassionate
person.

Class Warfare

Nope,
not that kind of class.
I'm hoping to start
a struggle
of its other definition.

Ann Landers once said:
... Class has nothing
to do with money.
Class never runs scared.
It is self-discipline and
self-knowledge.
It's the sure footedness
that comes with
having proved you can meet life.

Class is rooted within one's self.
Let us all be self-disciplined and self-knowing
and comfortable in that enough
to help the next one do the same.
Class Warfare can be a good thing.

One Nice Thing

I'm working on a challenge
This challenge is mostly for myself,
but if you'd like to join in,
I think it would only be a win-win-win.

Wherever I am,
whatever I'm doing,
whoever I am interacting with,
I find something nice to say.
Every Single Day!
Great smile!
Love your dimples.
Pretty eyes!
What a beautiful dress.
Work out much?
You have great hair.
I love your shirt.

I find something
simple and honest and true
so that my compliment
is genuine and sincere.
I would venture to say that
the good it does
is evident and immediate
which, in turn,
makes my heart smile.
Let's see what kind of
positive difference
we can make ...
one nice thing
at a time.

The Good Work

I'm all about
doing the right thing,
for the cause not the applause.
I happened upon this little phrase today
and thought I would share.
It is the same message,
just delivered in a different form.

The size of the audience
does not matter.
Keep doing the good work.

I realize that this sort of thing
does not resonate the same
with everyone,
but it has always weighed heavy
on my soul.
Do the right thing.
Not the current thing.
Not the fancy thing.
Not the fashion thing.
Not the pc thing.
Do the right thing.
Do The Good Work.

Be Still

Be still
and hear the whispers
in the wind.
Be still
and see the beauty
in the sky.
Be still
and feel the warmth
of hope.
Be still
and find great comfort
in the quiet.
Be still
and seek guidance
in your ways.
Be still
and know the safety
of faith.
Be still
and know
that I am God.

The Daughter

Sometimes, I am just obediently listening and writing.
To whomever needs to read this ... I hope it helps.
Enjoy:

The Daughter
by Lyn Marinello

Please do not dismiss me
Don't treat me as second rate
Don't use me as the brunt of your jokes
As though I can't add to your debate
I am pummeled by your cruelty
Hardened and belittled
Saddened by insensitivity
Self-worth slowly, painfully whittled
My heart is crushed by insolence
My light dims with each harsh phrase
I am focused on silver linings
Though sometimes lost in a heavy haze
I don't know when it happened
That you assumed my worth was less
Though each action of yours hurts
I'll continue to be me, I guess
For your actions are yours alone
The weight of which you must bare
I've never asked for very much
Just that you might show you care
There once was joy and tenderness
Frivolity, laughter, delight
Not quite sure when every word I speak
Sparks a confrontation or a fight
Don't judge me by my quietude
I assure you it's not because I'm meek
Don't think that my passive nature
Is a sign that I am weak
I am a being just like you
Made of flesh and blood and bone
I am the daughter of the King
Who sits lofty on His throne

Yours

She's ba-ack!!!
Hey there folks.
It feels good to be back in the saddle again.
Writing makes my heart happy.
I hope that what I write
occasionally touches you.
That it might make you smile.
Or make you think.
Or pluck a heartstring.
Or push you toward a RAK.
Enjoy the day before you.
Count your every blessing.
In the midst of whatever crisis
you might be flailing,
know that you are not alone -
figuratively and literally.
My heart and hopes are with you.
Be well and be wonderful.
That choice is yours.

Sunday Special

I don't normally blog on Sunday.
There are a few reasons for this one.
First of all ... I forgot to let you kids know that I'll be off grid for a few days.
No blogs til later this week, so I figured I'd throw in a freebie!
Second, it's Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day!
First, to Pop!
He had his issues, but always wanted to do the right thing.
He instilled the love of nature and being outdoors and working with our hands.
Off to Alfred.
Thanks for the music and the golf and for the entertainment of your tennis game.
Kudos to Alphonso.
The guy who finally treated Momma as she should be treated - like GOLD!
My love to Salvatore.
A father-in-law who just completely and unconditionally
enveloped me in all kinds of love and laughter.
To my Victor.
Thank you for bringing our children into this world
and for being such a wonderful tour guide, teacher, role model, and hero.
They are better people because of you.
To our Nicholas.
Enjoy this day, young man.
You now have the incredible opportunity
to shape and mold and build up and give flight to a tiny human.
Enjoy Every Second.
Thank you to all of mine, and to all the other men folk
who are doing the best they can to be all they can.
Happy Father's Day!
